So far I agree with all that has been suggested! I know with so many of us though it might be hard to keep up with that many wish trips if we did keep it to 4 per family. I guess I also think that they can be worn anywhere. Or we could venture out and make some non disney :scared1: ones too maybe.

NON-DISNEY CUSTOMS? SOMEONE CALL 911! (JK!)

Does everyone else have problems with our group photobucket site? For instance, I clicked on Tom's userid because I wanted to see his creations a while back. But, I couldn't get to page 2 of his designs. When I clicked page 2, it would take me right back to the main page with ALL the pictures- GRR!!! Teresa said she has the same problem.

I have been wanting to post this question, but I've been too lazy!

I can get to the pages on the tags, but not when I am trying to look by a person.

here is the link to the Disboutiquers board
http://disboutiquers.proboards106.com/index.cgi

There is a section called "BIG GIVE" - this will be where I post family info.

CAN SOMEONE DESIGN A LOGO THAT WE CAN ATTACH TO OUR SIGGYS THAT WILL CLICK AND LINK TO THAT SITE? I think it would be helpful to everyone that is trying to get information about how to give. Anyone?

I didn't know that there was a disboutique board all it's own!!! Checking that out now!

Oh my goodness! Yall have been holding out on me!! :sad2: I did not realize there is another website with customs!! Yay, I have something to do tonight!! :cool1:

What would happen with insurance if you happened to be on vacation near the Mayo Clinic and she needed treatment? :rolleyes1

I've thought of that! How funny!!!! I am going to look into what my coverage is away from home on vacation. I was told that my coverage is within 100 miles of my home, but surely they would have to cover her if we were away from home.

I have seriously considered just getting in the car and going to the ER there the next time she is having symptoms pretty severely. It might take us a while to get there, but we could do it! Driving for 8 hours isn't going to be any worse than sitting at Children's Mercy for 8 hours.

BIG GIVERS!

I'm listening! I'm taking notes! Thanks for your input, please continue to post whatever comes to your mind.

I really do believe that with the very high number of families, that we should consider doing 3-4 outfits per child per trip. I really do think that would still be considered a sizeable gift, and make their trip extra special. It would also allow us to help more families in a shorter amount of time.

I think that I will include a statement on the application regarding children that says something to the extint of "please include all children that would be interested in wearing customs" for the children's sizes section and then a statement with the adult section that says "please include all travellers that were not listed in the children's section" That will allow the families to decide who will receive customs and who will receive t-shirts.

Keep the suggestions coming!

A couple of thoughts. To ask for any special plans. (like dinner to Chef Mickey or the castle).

And some people said they don't sew, what about family tshirts that refer to MAW trip, either iron on or machine embroidered. My sister did this and they loved it. They all went out to Dinner and wore white tshirts that said vacation 08. Just a thought.

And since so many people want to give, to spread out the families for customs. So no one will get burnt out.

Help! Need sewing answer!

I am almost done with dd4 minnie dot dress so I started planning dd13 top that will match a family set. Well, checked out the pattern and it is for stretch knits! The mickey fabric I have is cotton! can I still use it? Is there a way to make it work? She really liked th pattern. It is simplisity 2944 and is really cute. If not, I can make her a top like mine and we can really be matching! :rotfl:

Sorry about typos.,..typing in the dark and rushing to get downstairs to watch Wipeout!! DD4 thinks it is hilarious. It is the only show we let her stay up late for!

The side of the envelope should have a stretch guide. I can't remember if you use the bias of the fabric or not. I'll never forget when I was in school a friend made a shirt that required stretch and she didn't think it would make the difference. But when she was done, it would have fit a first grader. :rotfl:

It's been around for a while now, but it just made sense to use it for this project so that everything can be in one place without posting on a huge board like the DIS. I hope everyone can understand how this will make things much easier - I spent many, many hours dealing with PMs the last round. I think it will be much easier to post everything in one place, and post a link here.

:

Those are great ideas! We have tried to do those things for each family. I think families will appreciate the shirts, and it really allows EVERYONE to be involved in giving. My goal is to make shirts for the entire family a part of the "base package" that every family will receive.

I've been reading the MAW thread. I believe that MAW gives the family a 5 day trip. 3 in Disney, 1 in IA and 1 in Sea World. The first day is really a 1/2 day, as the family needs to do an orientation. I was wondering if where they stay (GTKW) have large windows and if they can do Window Clings like some do at Disney resorts.

I don't think I realized it was a 5 day trip, for some reason I just assumed it was a week long.

Jojo is only 4 and I think she is caught up in HSM because of her oldersister...

Dallas loves HSM too and is 5, he has no older siblings but doesn't like cartoon movies too much. He'll watch cars but would pick a real movie over a cartoon most days.

BIG GIVE

I really would like to do special things for the siblings of the MAW kids, though. They often get less attention and feel ignored in everyday life. I want to make the trip as special for them as possible, too! Maybe instead of making an outfit for every kid for every day, we could limit the total number of outfits per family. Or not, I think Isabelle got enough outfits to last her through the rest of the year!

I agree with the sibling thing. I would venture to assume that they feel left out sometimes.

I just looked up the pattern. It looks like it calls for stretch knits because of the drape in the front. I think it can be done with cotton but it won't be flowy (is that a word???)

Does the pattern say "requires knits or stretch fabrics only"? If it does the pattern itself is cut smaller than it would be for a woven fabric so you'll have to measure your daughter and adjust the pattern accordingly. Patterns for knits tend to not have shaping darts so if you were to use a woven the top would more than likely just have more shape or "structure" to it. You can substitute a woven but you'll definately have to cut on the bias in order for it to "hang" properly. Good luck.

I agree with this! I can tell you that when a kid is sick the entire family is affected. Riley's issues have dramatically impacted Drew's life. She didn't do swim lessons or t-ball this summer because I just didn't know how I could get her there and take care of Riley at the same time. When Riley is hurting and doesn't feel like going anywhere we all stay home and miss out on fun.

I really truly beleive that the MAW trip is for the whole family. This may be the most fun they've ever had together as a family. Sadly for some it may be one of the only times that they do something like this all together.

Yeah- I agree Heather, but I can see where this could get out of hand real quick. It's kinda hard to know what to do- KWIM?? But- I guess as long as everyone's ok with it- it's ok to do.

I really think that saying each child gets 3 outfits is a good way to control it. I'm not so sure we should even "say" what they get until we see who can contribute and what. I don't think that every family has to get the exact same thing.

SHANNON I think knowing what their trip entails is a helpful insight. WDW is our "thing" but we could be doing Seaworld customs as well. I agree that keeping the outfits to 3-4 per child is reasonable especially if the disigns board is helping out w/ family t-shirts for one day. That seems to cover the 5 day trip, depending on how many t-shirt designs are being done per family.

I also agree that I don't mind what age we are sewing for as long as they are truly interested in wearing a custom creation.

I am interested to know what all we are including in the MAW "packages". Maybe that info is on the disboutiquers board.. i will check it out. I agree that being able to reach out to more families in a shorter period of time is the best possible target.

I know what you mean about fabric hording... i almost offered 2 different prints I don't want up on the board but decided these might be used for Big Give outfits. Sorry guys!:confused3 I also found some pooh fabric on clearance and couldn't pass it up..Lily isn't into Pooh, but a wish tripper might LOVE him. This Give has become addicting. Now I have to get off of this thread and actually go sew one of those outfits. ALSO can we get a list of who is willing to do bows or jewlery for our outfits too? some of us are bow impaired. I don't think that every outfit HAS to have them but if someone wants to help out in that way that would be cool.

Anyway, now you have my $.02, aren't you glad;)

I know there is a resort thread but since I spend more time here than anywhere else I'd like to get ya'll's opinions.

Ok, the original plan was that we were going to WDW in December and staying at POFQ (DH's choice) I wanted to stay at CR because that's where the girls and I stayed last year (DH didn't go). He doesn't like CR but since then he's been acting like a complete knob about the whole thing so I'm going to do the same thing I did last year and just plan for me and the girls. I've been looking at WL and it looks great especially since they have so many activities for the kids. I also thought Coronado Springs looked relatively nice as well. My question is given the choice where would you choose to stay? I've seen tons of pics of both but it's not the same as getting feedback from those in the know. Thanks.

I haven't stayed at CR but Zoe and I stayed at AKL and WL. Of those two, I'd always pick Animal Kingdom Lodge! It was so cool to have animals right outside our balcony. Zoe wasn't yet 3 on that trip and still remembers the animals. Although it's further from the parks (except AK), I actually thought the buses from there got us to the parks quicker than the buses from WL. It could have changed since then but the AKL buses only stopped at AKL (although I think we had to stop once on the bus to DTD).

I looked at that pattern on the Simplicity site and it does say sized for stretch knits only. The pattern would be designed with the expectation that the fabric would stretch so using a woven wouldn't work well. You could try going a size up to allow for more ease but it's risky. If I were in this position, I'd find a different pattern. I think 3514, 3515 and 3771 are really cute.

That wording sounds good.

Also, some accounts don't let me use a hyphen in my user id so in the photobucket account and on the Disboutiquer ProBoard my user id is Tifanicole (see, the last 2 letters of my first name are the same as the first 2 letters of my middle...how clever am I:laughing: ). Which just has always been my default user id so I DID NOT COPY OFF teresajoy, heathersue or candicenicole.:rotfl:

Thanks for all the advice on the pattern. We have decided to go with a round neck top that I bought for me. She can fit the small so I can use it for both of us. If she didn't have such big ****s she would fit the XXS!

We will take a trip to wally world tomorrow and find some cheap stretch knit to make the top.

Thanks again!

Welcome back Lori!!!   I think Jo Jo will do fine in the HSM outfit. Love the colors & so original! I wouldn't think she'd be too hot. Everytime I go to So. CA I seem coldish. (I am coming from TX though.;) )That's just my opinion, anyway. Not that you asked for it or anything....:rotfl:

oh that is ok, hey we are in hot AZ.... I think we have the same heat wave right now!!
so it is cooler for us there as well. And I always find the wind a tiny chilling. I see your siggy says DL at xmas... We were there then thru NYE and it was fabulous!!!

I really like 3771. In fact I have the smaller size and have made it for dd4! DD13 likes that pattern. If it goes on sale soon I may have to make her tinkerbell top using it! Thanks for the suggestions!

We
ve stayed at CBR and Coronado Spring and my DH and kids don't want to stay anywhere other than Coronado Springs EVER unless they get a savanah room at AKL.:rotfl: Coronado has the larges waterslide of all the moderate resorts. The pool is awesom, it has this big mayan temple that water flows down into the pool. If you are there when they open the pool they do some kind of "water" ceremony and dance with the kids to get the water to flow down. The playground has big statue pieces buried in the sand. Dh and DS just go on the slide over and over until they wear themselves out and then rest in the pool or a lounge chair until they regain some energy and it's right baack to the slide. I tried to book AKL this trip but DH said unless I booked a savanah room there's no point to go anwhere other than Corondado Springs.

HTH!! ...t.
