I think for ages, we should let the family decide if the older kids would wear the clothes. We could always give them a link to our photobucket account so they can see the range of styles we call "custom". Of course we'd need to be clear the photos in that account are not what they'd receive but more the kinds of outfits people here make. Many older kids (and adults) who would never wear character clothes at home could be the first to do so on a Disney trip. For a child of any age, I think Heather's idea to ask for dislikes is a good idea. Some girls will only wear dresses or skirts while some the same age won't wear them unless forced.
As for the number of outfits, I really think setting it at 3-4 per child in the family would be a good number. Although WE all love having at least one custom outfit per child per day, some people actually don't plan their clothes based on which park or ADR they have that day! I know, it's shocking but true.I think 3-4 outfits will give them a good variety without being overwhelming. Personally, I'd rather know we're giving 3-4 outfits to children in 2 or 3 families rather than 7-8 outfits for only one family.
I think knowing this, we should use that as a limit for outfits. I looked all over for Seaworld type fabric for the current MAW give and was not so lucky. Has anyone had any luck? I was thinking about stocking up for future gives. We could do the same with the hard to find fabric for IA. I also think the form to fill out should ask about any special needs for the clothing as well.I've been reading the MAW thread. I believe that MAW gives the family a 5 day trip. 3 in Disney, 1 in IA and 1 in Sea World. The first day is really a 1/2 day, as the family needs to do an orientation. I was wondering if where they stay (GTKW) have large windows and if they can do Window Clings like some do at Disney resorts.
Who are these people?!?! You mean that there are regular people who DON'T plan 2 customs a day for Disney???? WOWsome people actually don't plan their clothes based on which park or ADR they have that day! I know, it's shocking but true.![]()
BIG GIVE
I really would like to do special things for the siblings of the MAW kids, though. They often get less attention and feel ignored in everyday life. I want to make the trip as special for them as possible, too! Maybe instead of making an outfit for every kid for every day, we could limit the total number of outfits per family. Or not, I think Isabelle got enough outfits to last her through the rest of the year!
Well. I thought we had taken care of the ant problem and last night I moved a hamper in the corner of the room and found it FULL of ants. There is a crack in the wall (no doubt from the sinkhole) and the ants were filing in through it. This was at 12:00 at night at the same exact time that Lily pee'd on my dryclean only bedspread!!! UGH! I vacuumed up what I could of the ants then focused on my pee'd bed. I said I didn't know what to do w/ the laundry basket, I didn't want to move it outside but I didn't want to spread the ants to anywhere else in the house and I had just loaded the washer. He said, well they don't seem to be going anywhere but the laundry basket so just leave it until tomorrow, I'll take the day off and we'll figure it out.
I can't get the bug guys to call me back, B doesn't want to spray chemicals in the house anyway (we don't use any chemical cleaners in the house or our yard) AND we aren't supposed to fix the cracks and stuff from the sinkhole b/c they have to document how much they've changed since we filed the claim and do an estimate for repair. So I can't caulk the cracks that are letting the ants in...I think, but my public adjuster is also not calling me back.
OKay, that said. I meant to tell ya'll that we saw wally on the 4th and it was great. We loved it. JUST loved all of the innuendo's. We also bought Monster's Inc. yesterday. We hadn't seen it since it came out in the theatre. i forgot how good it was. Lily was totally captivated. She was really upset when Boo went back home.
Speaking of my little liliana. You know, she doesn't usually get to surf the dis w/ me but last night we were in bed and scrolling through some pages on her dad's blackberry (can you say addict?) and she said "Who is that mama?" I said "THAT is Tessa, she sewed that pillow all by herself" She said "I LOVE TELLA! She's my best friend." I said "her name is TeSSa" She said "I know, she's my very favorite friend and I love her" Then she called her Tara.

I'm sure she'll figure it out though.
Okay. I was trying to figure out how I want to make her storybook twirl lastnight. I was considering "appliquéing" The panels onto fabric cut the dimensions I want the skirt. instead of trying to add pieces in between and at the top and bottom. B/C of the "book" format one side doesn't have the 1/4" seam allowance and some of the designs are close to where I'd need to sew it to another panel if I just heat-n-bond them on and zig zag around the edges I could eliminate this problem and they wouldn't be off center like I think they will if I sew the strips together. Does anyone have any reason why they think this will not work? I only have 2 weeks to get her minnie dot dress and the storybook twirl done and I have to finish my big give outfits too ( I cut them out last night) WHY do I do this to myself.
Also, I found a pair of jean overalls in the boys section of sears. The character stuff was all 50% off so bonus. They are Cars themed and have an appliqué of lightning on the bib. After I got it ( I was in a hurry) I realized that the appliqué is right on the bib, there is no pocket so...I could cut it off and back it w/ another fabric and put my appliqué over it..OR like any other nutcase I could set it aside and get some cars fabric for it and just make her minnie dot bodice and ditch the overall idea until I get the cars fabric?????? I am inclined to do the latter but I already have an outfit planned for every parkOf course we are going to WDW again the second weekend in Aug. SO why should she have to wear a Disney custom twice

See what you've all done to me?
HEATHER, I must've come to this thread in July too...b/c the first thing I made was the cuties dress for Lily's 2nd birthday and she turns 3 in 2 weeks. I still have some of that fabric. Maybe I should make her an anniversary dress tooI remember those minnie dresses you made the girls, my how much they've all grown!
I guess that's all for now, I'm off to the photo bucket to look at the storybook twirls. I can't decide if 3x full is going to make it hard to see the panels. I am now wishing I had a pink or white or blue pettis (HINT![]()

...t.
My 7yr old won't wear ruffles either so I know exactly what you mean. The set you made is adorable.Hi Everyone,
Just coming out of lurking for a moment...
Twob4Him: My dd is 8 and tells me she is too old for ruffles. Now, I don't think she is, but I try to respect her wishes and make clothes that don't have a lot of ruffles. I could still make them, but it'd be a waste of time because she would not wear them. My youngest will tell me she doesn't like them but will wear them occassionally.
As usual, I have enjoyed looking at all the outfits ya'll have been posting. I have especially enjoyed the Wall-E customs though. I wanted to make one, but didn't know what to do with the green fabric that is out there. I ended up making one out of regular fabrics. Anyway, here is what I came up with.... (Pic is posted with permission of the child's paents and I am distorting her face per parent's request.)

Sweet costumes. I think I may do Snow White for my youngest and my oldest wants to be Jasmine.Whew! I just introduced myself and already I am way behind. I'm back on page 169!
Anyway, here (hopefully) is a picture of the Snow White dress I made my daughter. It came out a little low cut. And this isn't the best pic for the viewing of the dress, but whatever!I think it was a Simplicity pattern.
Mall of America is getting an American girl store!!!!

They said it will be open just in time for christmas!!
I have loved everyones pictures from the AG stores and can't wait for dd to get a little older!!
Hey everyone! It's a girl! We now have three princesses!
The new baby arrived on July 2nd, 2008!
It was a very easy delivery. Four pushes and baby arrived! She entered the world at 12:38pm, just in time for lunch! She was 7 lb. 1 oz., so for me pretty small!
Her name is Lillian Kate and we are calling her Lilly. Her sisters are screwing up her name though and calling her Ella! I have no idea why. So at this rate, that will be her nickname!
She is an easy babyand sleeping about 4-5 hours at a time. I am just hoping that continues! I promise I'll post pictures in a day or two after I download them!
So just wanted to have a shameless pity moment...I sprained my ankle!!! And it's pretty bad. Luckily this happened now and not in Sept or poor DH would have to try to figure out how to push DD in a stroller and me in a wheelchair cuz there is no way I can do all that walking![]()
I fell walking out of my own house (apparently forgot there was a step). Let me tell you, nothing slows you down like a sprained ankle OR and when you drive half of the day for work...nothing hurts worse than trying to drive with a sprained right ankle! I had to drive 3 hours straight yesterday. Then, because I'm a gigantic baby about icing it, my DH took my ankle and bandaged the ice packs to me when I got home!!!
OH and the worst part...I was on a really good kick going to the gym and now I didn't get to go yesterday. I had been going to the gym 3 nights a week and doing water aerobics 2 nights. Water aerobics is tomorrow so I think I'm going to skip the gym again tonight and start with water aerobics and see how that goes...but I was told that it might hurt for 6 weeks?!?!?! Has anyone else sprained an ankle? Did it hurt for 6 weeks????
Hi Everyone! Fun times at our house...we had severe lightening at our house today, and it struck the water main in front of the house..so you guessed it. No water, also for some reason our satelight isn't working either, so no TV...And did I mention that I haven't showered for work yet tonight...I don't know what I'm going to do. I can't even fathom showering in a patients room...ICK times 1000!! I wonder how many bottles of Dasani it would take to wash my hair...

Does anyone have a link to the MAW thread?
I know there is a resort thread but since I spend more time here than anywhere else I'd like to get ya'll's opinions.
Ok, the original plan was that we were going to WDW in December and staying at POFQ (DH's choice) I wanted to stay at CR because that's where the girls and I stayed last year (DH didn't go). He doesn't like CR but since then he's been acting like a complete knob about the whole thing so I'm going to do the same thing I did last year and just plan for me and the girls. I've been looking at WL and it looks great especially since they have so many activities for the kids. I also thought Coronado Springs looked relatively nice as well. My question is given the choice where would you choose to stay? I've seen tons of pics of both but it's not the same as getting feedback from those in the know. Thanks.
BIG GIVERS!
I'm listening! I'm taking notes! Thanks for your input, please continue to post whatever comes to your mind.
I really do believe that with the very high number of families, that we should consider doing 3-4 outfits per child per trip. I really do think that would still be considered a sizeable gift, and make their trip extra special. It would also allow us to help more families in a shorter amount of time.
I think that I will include a statement on the application regarding children that says something to the extint of "please include all children that would be interested in wearing customs" for the children's sizes section and then a statement with the adult section that says "please include all travellers that were not listed in the children's section" That will allow the families to decide who will receive customs and who will receive t-shirts.
Keep the suggestions coming!
Help! Need sewing answer!
I am almost done with dd4 minnie dot dress so I started planning dd13 top that will match a family set. Well, checked out the pattern and it is for stretch knits! The mickey fabric I have is cotton! can I still use it? Is there a way to make it work? She really liked th pattern. It is simplisity 2944 and is really cute. If not, I can make her a top like mine and we can really be matching!
Sorry about typos.,..typing in the dark and rushing to get downstairs to watch Wipeout!! DD4 thinks it is hilarious. It is the only show we let her stay up late for!
