On Thurs morning at 10:30 am I have a job interview with a place called Bandolino. I really need P and PD for this one guys..if I got this job, it would get me out of the hell that is my current job.

I have found out recently that according to TX state labor laws, there is nothing that says an employer HAS to give you a 15 min or 30 min lunch break. My boss takes advantage of this big time..it's not uncommon to go 6-8 hrs before you get a break at all. If the big boss man is there, you feel lucky to even get a BATHROOM break because he gets ticked whenever somebody leaves their station for even an instant. He also has this bad,bad habit of standing behind people and poking them in the back or ribs, telling them to go faster, faster faster. If you move even an INCH away from your station while he's there (even to wash your hands), he gets angry.

He also likes to not put the schedule out for the week (which runs Mon-Sun,for some strange reason) until late Sun night after closing time. And that's if he puts it out AT ALL. Sometimes he'll only do Mon and Tues and leave the rest of the week to be finished sometime late Tues or early Weds morning. It's so annoying because you can't plan ANYTHING for the week that way. He also likes to write 'open-ended' schedules where he'll put down the start time of your shift, but not the end time which annoys me to no end. I only recently got him to stop doing that by leaving him a nice note saying I NEEDED to know what time I was getting off each day because of the sitter and stuff. So most of the time now he writes down what time I get off.

This is only a teeny bit of how badly my boss treats each and every employee, which is why we've had such an extremely high turnover rate. Besides myself, there are only 2 people who've been there as long as I have. In the time I've been there I've seen the staff turn completely over at least 3-4 times.

So please..on Thurs morning..good thoughts, PD, prayers, whatever. I'm really going to need them if I'm going to get this job. I want it so badly I can taste it. :)

TYIA.

Sending you prayers and PD. Good luck on interviewing and may you get the job that you want.

:wave2:

Thanks belle. I am a total loss for what to say when they ask me why I'm leaving my current job. I can't think of a nice way of saying my boss is a total jerk.

Document what is going on in your present job. Some employers have a human resource office designed to aid employees in complaints. I have to caution you that when the boss is being investigated---he may make things worse.

I would keep things quiet at work for now because it is easier to find a job when you have a job.

Are you applying for management at Bandolino or as a salesperson?

Good wishes, ToV, do hope you are able to make the switch to a new place and get out from under those current work conditions, not pleasant at all, I am sure. I bet you will do great!!!

I have faith in you! Your going to do great! best wishes and pixie dust your way...I'll be praying for you!

Good luck, although I'm sure you will not need it. You will be great.

Got my fingers crossed for you, babe.

Is the new place a shoe store? Bandolino is the name of an Italian shoe manufacturer that makes gorgeous shoes.

Prayers and pixie dust coming your way!! I hope the interview goes well and you get the job!! What a jerk your current boss sound to be!! You certainly need to find something better!!

Good luck, I hope you get it.

PD on the way. Wish you could get the job at Bandolino and find a way to leave your current one in a fashion that the legend of TOV grows (Worked with a guy with a tyrant boss. The guy left during lunch and never came back).

You got it, good luck! Keep positive. :goodvibes

A boss is poking employees in the ribs or backs and no one has complained to the HR office?

You don't know how many levels of wrong you boss is here!!

First off, the break issue. Exactly what kind of break schedule do you get for your shifts and how many hours are your shifts. Doesn't matter what Texas says - you are working for a national chain and more than likely they have a company policy on breaks because it is easier to enforce one policy company wide that would work in all states instead of monitoring each state by their particular law. Do you know where he keeps his operations manual (if he has one there?). Usually the ops manual should be made accessable to all employees.

He not only touches you but pokes you? That is harassment. Find out your companies harassment policy. He should not be laying a finger on you like that especially when he is reprimanding you.

The hand washing thing that he gets angry about - once again, you need to find a copy of your ops manual or do you have a employee guide book? I would assume that any food service industry would have a guideline concerning hygine, and washing hands throughout the day would be MANDATORY.

The schedule issue sounds wrong for anyone working in a chain establishment also. Most places require their managers to submit a completed staff schedule to their supervisor at a certain time prior to that period. Not only that but they usually have "X" amount of payroll hours they can use per week. Not sure how he could stick to that if he leaves things open ended ALL the time. I can see during a special event or holiday where he isn't sure if he will need people for 4 hours or 6.

Big thing is for you to find out what your COMPANY'S guidelines are for all of this. Chances are he might be doing some major rule breaking. Do you know if there is an anonymous phone number you can call to report issues? Most companies have them because most people (like you) are scared to do things for fear of the backlash.

Good luck on your interview - I hope all goes well. Few pointers: Be very pleasant, agreeable, and dress businesslike. Do not go in with your main concern what you can NOT do (hours you cannot work, etc) That is an instant turn off. Play up your strong points and talk about how you like to work with people. Do NOT use slang (I know you like to, but that would send you right to the door with me!) and I'm not sure of your appearance (since I know you are goth) but if you have multiple piercings, take them out until you are sure of that company's dress code. Also if there are any tattoos - cover them. That is another thing that may be against their dress code. But the biggest things are - 1. positive outlook. Do not focus on negatives. 2. eye contact. Look your interviewer in the eye when they talk to you and when you answer back. 3. Professionalism. Apply for a retail job as if you were applying to be a lawyer or accountant. A casual atmosphere in a store does not mean the manager is looking for someone who casually rolls through an interview.

Keeping my fingers crossed for you!

TOV, best wishes, prayers and pixie dust for a great interview and a new job for you!!
