I really hope DH is feeling better!! sending lots of prayers!!

I actually had some major issues in college where I was bleeding and feeling awful. I had a surgery done that did me some wonders!! I still have to watch some of the things I eat :headache:

My husband had some horrible abdominal pains. They thought it was Gall stones, so they took his gall bladder, but then they saw his large intestine was maybe irritating the gall bladder so they didn't think that was it. They took part of his large intestine because it was hard and they tested it but had no answer for us. Then they thought it might be Crohn's, but it wasn't that either. This was 2 years ago, we still have no answer, and he still gets the pains once in a while. He was overweight and was told that could contribute to his problem, so he's lost a bunch of weight and is still losing. He also cut out caffiene, mint, and chocolate at his doctor's suggestion and reduced his alcohol intake. It seems to be helping, but I still wish we knew what was going on.

I hope they can find an answer for your husband and that he's feeling better. Prayers going out your way from Nevada

Your poor DH! I hope you guys have some answers! I know how tough it is to get a diagnosis where you know you will have to change your lifestyle. My DH was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at age 30. I'll keep you guys in my prayers!

We haven't heard from you in a little while, I hope things are going well/getting better. Thinking of you :goodvibes

Woah!

It's definitely been a while and i'm extremely sorry.

Okay, DH ended up seeing that specialist and he wanted him to get a Colonoscopy done ASAP. The next available opening wasn't until the end of August, but would try to squeeze him in sometime the next week, either Tuesday (the 24th his bday - what a bday present! :lmao: or the 25th - the first day of work for DH) but wouldn't know until the Monday before, but thought he would be doing the procedure the 25th. Which leads to my next story...

Originally we were going to be going to Disneyland July 21- July 24. Then DH got sick and I wasn't going to be going at all. He really didn't want me to stay at the house with him since there was nothing that I could do for him even if he was in pain, so I ended up going with my mom, DB and Dsil on the 22nd (we had planned the 21st for my mom, dh and I for our 6 year anniversary, so canceled that date and kept the other days). Well, he got the call on Monday that they were going to schedule him on his bday and not the next day (when I would be home :headache:) which meant, I wouldn't be there for his colonoscopy. His mom ended up taking him and bringing him home which was great.

The procedure went well and took about 15-20 minutes. Long story short, he has a severe case of Ulcerative Colitis and he'll need to be doing daily enemas for one month and be on medication for at least 3 years. He has an appt in 2 weeks to check up on everything. He is still in pain but not as much as it was prior to this medication, which is good. He did end up quitting Varsity football because it’s pretty stressful and we don’t want flare ups to occur.

Phew! So that’s where we’re at today. I’m also 33 weeks today. Crazy! And this past Sunday I started getting Morning (night) sickness again. Aye aye aye! I’ve also been crazy busy helping plan my baby shower on the 25th of this month and getting things done around the house.

As far as WDW, Dh has been talking a lot about it lately. He’s getting SUPER excited and has been looking at menus for the past 3 days in a row on Allears. I’m glad he’s excited about something, since he’s football got taken away from him.

Thanks to everyone for the kind words, thoughts, and prayers during this very hectic time and I can't wait to get back to regular DISing!

Hi, glad you're back!

Your poor DH, I suffer from UC too so know what he is gong through.

33 weeks? Wow! That sure is going fast, what's up with the sickness though? I hope it isn't too bad, but at least you only have seven weeks left until you meet your baby boy!!

Oh my goodness, that's a tedious month for DH. Not a good birthday activity, but I'm glad they figured out what was going on.

Aren't you supposed to let other people spoil you rotten for your baby shower? :) don't push yourself too much.

Glad you've finally figured out what is going on. Sorry to hear he had to give up his football. Sending best wishes for a speedy recovery!

Well at least you got some answers. So sorry he's feeling so awful. I'm sure he'll be happy to get this month overwith!

Good luck on the planning, and let the others take care of your bably shower. You need to be resting and enjoying yourself (well what is left that you can!) I imagine you're getting to the point of being ready to be done with it and pop that baby out! :lmao:

Sorry for my absence on here.....I'm so sorry you and your DH had to go through all that.....scary, but at least now you have answers.....might not be the ideal diagnosis.....but it's doable and not something far more serious.

I hope he continues to feel better and I hope you get some rest as you get closer to your due date.

I am glad your DH got some answers. I can't believe you are already 33 weeks. It goes so fast. I hope you update with how your shower went and post pictures. :)

Do you mind if I ask you a question? We don't know much about UC and have tried doing research on the internet about what he should he, what he shouldn't, etc and there is so much conflicting information out there. Is there some foods that you just can't have? Right now we are testing the waters with most food. For instance, he's never had a dairy allergy before all this, and hasn't had dairy, until recently, because he thought it would trigger that burning sensation that he gets. So we did a small glass of milk to see how he would feel, and he felt fine and has been eating dairy now for about 3 days with no issues. Did you find that you just had to test a few things out and see what worked for you and what didn't? Any advice would be MUCH appreciated since we don't know anyone else with this. :goodvibes

From what I heard, maybe it's just with some women, that they can get back their morning sickness in the third trimester that they once had in their first trimester. :confused3 Apparently, this is correct since i'm going through the same things that I was doing in the very beginning of my pregnancy, like not eating a lot, getting nauseous, going to bed early..

Oh my goodness, that's a tedious month for DH. Not a good birthday activity, but I'm glad they figured out what was going on.

Hi Pam! My poor hubby. He'll always remember his 29th bday as getting poked :lmao:

My SIL is throwing the shower for me, but if anyone knows me, they know that i'm a control freak, and have so many ideas for the shower that I must be involved if I want it to be the way I want it to be. But my SIL has been amazing, and this shower is going to be incredible. As awful as it sounds and I shouldn't even be comparing the two, I didn't get to do everything I had wanted to do for our wedding due to money, and feel like now, that it's not so much of a concern, I want to go all out.

Glad you've finally figured out what is going on. Sorry to hear he had to give up his football. Sending best wishes for a speedy recovery!

Thank you so much! :)

He's SO ready to stop putting fluid up his butt every night, but he has gotten used to it. Poor thing. His doctor didn't tell him that he would be having to do these, so when I went to pick up his prescription, the pharmacist handed me a large bottle of pills and three large boxes, which I didn't know at the time, were the enemas. When I got home, I showed DH what I had picked up for him, saving the enemas for last. He was already defeated and drowsy and not feeling good from everything so I knew he wouldn't take it well. And sure enough, I told him what was in the boxes and what the instructions were, he actually put his head down on the island and cried. :sad2: I felt awful for him, that I started tearing up to. But luckily it will all be over soon..

I was telling Pam that my SIL is doing a tremendous job with my shower, but i'm a control freak and there are certain things I want done. I feel like I couldn't get everything I wanted from my wedding (I know, two separate occasions) due to money, so i want to go all out for this, since it's not so much of an issue now. AND if I'm only ALLOWED to have one baby shower, I want to make this amazing!

Sorry for my absence on here.....I'm so sorry you and your DH had to go through all that.....scary, but at least now you have answers.....might not be the ideal diagnosis.....but it's doable and not something far more serious.

YES! Thank the lord they didn't find cancer or something. Although this is something he's going to have to deal with for the rest of his life, it's managable, which is great!

I am glad your DH got some answers. I can't believe you are already 33 weeks. It goes so fast. I hope you update with how your shower went and post pictures. :)

Hi Gina! I know! 33 weeks is crazy! I'm hoping and praying he comes a little bit earlier than September 25th. A week earlier would be nice!

I wanted to show you guys a picture of what I looked like last week. I'm pretty sure I haven't grown much in the last week so here's my 32 week shot!

I have an appointment tomorrow morning and after this appointment, I will be having WEEKLY appointments up until my due date, unless he comes sooner...which I gotta say, hope he comes sooner than Sept 25. But not too soon :thumbsup2

Hi Alicia,

You look amazing in that picture!!

In answer to your previous question about UC, I find this website pretty much sums up what I can and can't eat:

http://www.ulcerativecolitis.org.uk/dietarychanges.htm

I have managed the illness for about ten years now, but will have to use suppositories each day for the rest of my life.

The foods that trigger the most problems for me seem to be onions, cream, cabbage and broccoli. I don't avoid them completely, I just have to be prepared and maybe take more medication that day and stay close to good facilities. ;)

The last eposide I had was at WDW last Oct after a particular yummy meal at Ohana, which consisted of loads of bad things to eat, but was worth it :rotfl2:

Your DH will no doubt work out which foods work best for him and manage his illness as sucessfully as I have.

Hi there!!! I'm so sorry that your hubby had to go through all that. My mom had some bad flare-ups of UC in the 1990s, and had to do the enemas also. It did make it so much better though and was a huge relief for her. I know that before she found out, those days waiting for the test were agonizing. She had no idea what was wrong, and it was very scary for her. Her gastroenterologist had her off of fruits and vegetables for the duration of her treatment, but you should definitely ask your husband's doctor what his dietary restrictions are, because that was years ago and things with medicine change constantly.

I will tell you this though (and this is very good news)...about 6 years ago I took my mom in for her colonoscopy. There were no longer any signs of her ever having ulcerative colitis. The gastroenterologist (and she has an excellent one...I use him too) said that sometimes UC burns itself out and it might never return, but she still has to look out for it just in case. It is an autoimmune disease (the immune system attacking itself, basically), which is the same class as other inflammatory bowel diseases (Crohn's, colitis), eczema, psoriasis, Celiac disease, etc. So, there is hope that some day he won't have any problems at all and that there will be no signs of anything. As long as he goes for regular check-ups per doctor's recommendations, he will be able to keep it under control and everything will be fine. I'm so sorry he and you had to go through all that though.

You look terrific by the way! Adorable! Sorry you are having sickness again. At least you got a break from it for a while and you are near the end. I gave birth 17 days early to my first, so I was 37 and a half weeks (and that is considered full-term already). So you may not have to wait too long to hold that beautiful baby! :thumbsup2

Thanks for the link Monica!

Okay, so it doesn't look like you have a long list of foods that you need to stay away from, or at least limit yourself from, which is great. When we had originally started the researching process, we had a list of about 20 things that we were going to try and stay away from, but it was just too hard for him.

He hasn't had any broccoli or cabbage yet. So does green leaf lettuce, romaine lettuce, spinach, etc bother you? Or is it just specifically cabbage? He hasn't had any type of leafy green because he associated cabbage with all other leafy greens and is scared to try them.

He's also worried about having diarrhea for the rest of his life. Does this ever get under control? He hasn't had a solid BM in over a month, but the bleeding has stopped since he started taking that medication.

You look fabulous!!!

Thanks Pam! I know i've asked you before, but will you be starting a PTR for your next trip now that your other one is done?

Wow that's amazing! The doctor did say it's something that he'll live with, but that there may be days, weeks, even months where he won't be affected at all if under control and taken care of which would be amazing! Especially since my hubby loves to eat! The doctor did tell him that he will be having to have a colonoscopy ever 3 or 4 years now since he has been diagnosed with UC, which honestly, I know DH doesn't like, but it does give me some relief. I want to make sure this doesn't progress into something more serious later on.

I just had my appointment this morning and talked to her about my morning sickness. She told me I could continue taking my Zofran as needed and it wouldn't hurt the baby at all :thumbsup2 I also haven't gained any weight since my last appointment 2 weeks ago, and i'm still measuring the exact same which is crazy since I feel like i've gotten a little bigger over the past 2 weeks, but apparently it's all in my head. I would LOVE it if he came that early! It's still considered full term and I wouldn't have to be miserable for those last 2 1/2 weeks! Praying for that!

I'm so glad that the doctors were able to give you a diagnosis, but sorry that your hubby is miserable and that you're getting sick again... You do look awesome in that pic though! Can't wait to hear more Calvin news =)

Hi, lettuce and spinach don't bother me at all so it just seems to be cabbage,

Things will start to improve in the BM department once the medicine kicks in, no doubt, so tell him not to worry.

Most days I feel completely normal and carry on as if I don't have a bowel disease, it just catches me off guard once in a while.

You are so sweet to be doing all this research for him and caring so much, especially when you have a baby to deliver so soon!
