Great review ... the Shepards Pie looks yummy ....

but I have to tell you ... my favorite is ....

DESSERT

I'm loving your reviews! And I'm pretty sure I know I'm going after that creme brulee for dessert at Raglan Road! My OH my!

Thanks for the great pictures. I'm looking forward to the rest of your reviews :thumbsup2

Great reviews! Raglan Road is now on my list thanks to your review!!!

Yay! Thanks so much for the nice comments from everybody! I'm glad to hear that lots of people are planning to check out Raglan Road - it really is a great, relaxing place with delicious food!

So! It's time for the review on...

'Ohana!

That day was our planned day at Kennedy Space Center. Boooo, we had to leave Disney for the day! Can you tell it wasn't my idea? Hehee! :confused3

Kennedy Space Center was okay. We had to get up at 4am (yes, 4am!!!) because it was space shuttle Atlantis launch day! Yahoooo! Except of course, the launch was cancelled, and Atlantis actually launched the next day, when we were back at Disney. Hehehehee. Anyway.

So that night, we had an 8.45pm ADR at 'Ohana.

'Ohana was our second choice for a Disney restaurant, after Boma. At first, Conan and I were both so excited about it, but then I started reading lots of negative reviews about it on the DIS boards. And I also started thinking, "I don't like meat much! Will I like 'Ohana?" We contemplated cancelling lots of times, but eventually stuck with it, because... well... it was free!!

We arrived at the Polynesian about an hour early, and had a look around the resort. And... WOW! We always thought our favourite resort would be Animal Kingdom Lodge, but the Polynesian was GORGEOUS! We walked around in awe, constantly whispering to each other, "I wish we were staying here instead of Pop!" Next time we go to Disney, we'll definitely stay at the Poly! Everything's so tropical and pretty!

Anyway, 'Ohana!

We were seated in the middle of the restaurant, with a gorgeous view of the Magic Kingdom castle. Our server was lots of fun and very friendly - one of our favourites of our whole time at Disney.

Our drinks arrived first, and I can't quite remember what they were! Some type of non-alcoholic cocktail, which came with the dining plan. Conan's was a coconut / pineapple drink, and mine was a strawberry daquiri type thing, I think! They look pretty though!

IMG_0540.gif

So our first food to arrive was the salad, wonton chips, and dipping sauces. YUM!! I could have eaten all of those wontop chips, along with the peanut sauce! If only I hadn't learnt to pace myself, I probably would have!

IMG_0538.gif

Pretty much straight after that, the chicken wings and shrimp arrived on our table. Again... YUM!! The chicken wings were fantastic!! I'm not a seafood person at all, but Conan jumped into the shrimp (not literally...), and loved them!

IMG_0539.gif

Next up were the stir-fried veggies, and potatoes. Have I said YUM!?!! Everything was SO good! The potatoes were delicious, but very buttery. And the veggies were great and fresh.

IMG_0541.gif

By this stage, Conan and I were giggling and feeling like kings at a feast, with all the food spread out in front of us. It really was lots of fun!! And then came the meat skewers! Auh!

My favourite was the turkey... and I don't even like turkey!!

Seriously, it didn't taste like any turkey I've ever tasted! Turkey, to me, usually tastes like... well.... pee! It always has a yucky aftertaste. But this turkey was delicious!! Especially dipped in the peanut sauce!

As I said, I'm not much of a red meat eater, but I had a try of the steak, which was okay, but... yeuck. Meat. And I'm afraid neither of us tried the fat sausage or the pork. But the turkey was AWESOME!! We had seconds of that!

Here's the big skewers being cooked over the BBQ...

IMG_0544.gif

We were so, so full! And everything (except the steak, but that's just me!) was so, so good!!

And THEN came the dessert! Whew! Now I'm not generally a bread pudding kinda girl, but WOW! I loved that bread pudding! Especially the banana sauce! Yum! And even the vanilla ice-cream was fabulous!

IMG_0546.gif

Seriously, I can't say enough good things about how yummy all this food was. And how MUCH food there was! I kinda felt bad leaving so much behind. What do they do with it all, I wonder!?

We were so, SO glad we didn't cancel our ADR for 'Ohana! It is definitely up there as our favourite, along with Raglan Road. Plus, there was such a fun vibe in the restaurant. Everybody was just happy and relaxed! It really did feel like we'd been transported to Hawaii for the night!

We wholeheartedly gave 'Ohana :) :) :) :) :) out of 5!

We love 'Ohana! :cheer2:

Next up... Le Cellier and Liberty Inn!

Great reviews and pictures, thanks for taking the time to post them. Now hurry up and post Day 5! ;) :teeth:

Glad you enjoyed 'Ohana! DH and I have reservations in just over two weeks but I was having second thoughts after some of the bad reviews! There was a thread about how couples who did not enjoy the whole experience with the noise and activity level. How did you find things there in that respect?? Thanks!!

Well.... unless you find kids doing cute hula dances and chasing coconuts offensive, you won't have a problem!!

Seriously, it was just fun. I suppose if you wanted a romantic, candle-lit dinner, you'd go elsewhere - but people who get cranky over kids having fun aren't my kinda people! Hehheee.

Go, and have fun!! You could even join in with the limbo!!

I'll post day 5 soon! :cheer2:

Hi
Thanks for your great reviews. We're trying Boma in December. Can't wait. Also, we love Ohanas. I don't eat any meat and find I get plenty to eat with all the other stuff. Glad you had a great time.

I'm so glad that you liked Ohana's. It's one of our favorite places to eat. And with all the bad reviews lately I thought maybe it was going down hill. But I'm glad that it's still the same. Can't wait to eat there in November!! Waiting for you review on LeCellier now since we've never been there.

Yay! Le Cellier was next! :yay:

We had a lunch booking at Le Cellier, pretty much because of all the good things I read about it on these boards! Plus Conan loves a good steak, so why not!?

So we arrived at 12.40pm - our ADR time. And we waited a little bit. Then we waited a little bit more. We waited about half an hour all up, which wasn't too bad, but it was the first and last time we actually had to wait for an ADR throughout our whole trip. Oh well!

We were seated in the middle of the restaurant - and I mean the middle. It actually felt like we were sitting in what used to be a walkway, but they'd plonked down some little tables there instead, to squeeze more people in. But again... okay! We were happy and the temperature was icy cool, and we were in Le Cellier! Exciting!

Our waiter arrived, and briefly took us through the menu, telling us that Le Cellier is reknowned for having "amazing steaks - the best in DisneyWorld". Hmm, okay! Confidence!

All the milkshake and smoothie facilities weren't working the day we were there, so we had cokes instead. Never mind...

Our waiter didn't tell us about the different sections of the restaurant, or anything about the breads which magically arrived on our table without so much as a "There you go!"

So for my appetizer, of course I had to try the famous cheddar cheese soup!

IMG_0557.gif

I'd heard so much about this soup, I was just dying to try it! My first impression? "WOW! It's.... tiny!" The bowl really is teeny! I felt like a giant sitting next to it - and I'm 5"2! Nevertheless, I didn't eat it all anyway. It was yummy, but amazingly thick, and tasted more like onion than anything else. It was great with the bread, but a bit overwhelming on it's own...

Conan chose the shrimp cocktail for his appetizer...

IMG_0556.gif

He loved it! The presentation definitely isn't as cute as the old noodle box style, but he said the shrimp were fresh and tasty - and not spicy at all, which he was worried about, with the "wasabi coleslaw".

For our mains, we both had the petit felit. I asked for mine with roast potatoes instead of mashed potatoes, because roast potatoes are my favourite!

I also asked for my steak well done, because... remember how I don't like red meat much? I really just don't like the taste, and the thought of chewing on a cow. Hehee, I know. Weird. So if steak is really well done, the meaty taste isn't so bad. And there's no blood! Because I ordered it well done, my steak was presented in a butterfly cut, which is why it looks bigger in the photo...

IMG_0559.gif

And... well... it was steak. Although it was tiny, I only ate half of mine. I know, you're probably thinking, "She hates meat! Why would she order steak!?" But I'd heard so many great things about the steak at Le Cellier, and even our server told us it was "amazing", so I thought maybe I'd like this one!! I thought it might be a magical piece of meat that tasted different! But... no. Not really. The potatoes were awesome though!!

Conan enjoyed his steak, and ate it in about 3 minutes. He said it was good, but not the best steak ever. He also ate the other half of mine, and proclaimed he was still hungry. Hehee.

By this time, our cokes were finished, and when our server came to collect our plates, he said, "I'll bring you refills!" Yay, thanks!

So we ordered dessert. I had the creme brulee sampler, which was delicious! Vanilla bean on one side, and cinammon maple on the other side. Vanilla bean was definitely my favourite. Yum! It was nice and light, and again, very teeny!

IMG_0563.gif

Conan had the Chocolate whiskey cake for his dessert, and loved that too. :thumbsup2

IMG_0561.gif

We were still waiting on our coke refills after dessert. We'd reminded him about them, but to no avail. Hmm, okay. :confused3

Eventually when he brought us our bill, we thought we'd just forget about the cokes, like he did. Really because we just couldn't be bothered with him anymore!

Now the couple sitting next to us (about 10 inches away) weren't on the dining plan, and they had the same server as us. They had their drinks refilled. The different sections of the restaurant was explained to them. They had the breadsticks explained to them. They were checked on three times to make sure everything was okay. And we didn't get any of that. It was the first and only time I felt that the dining plan affected our service.

I kinda had the feeling that everybody who worked there thought Le Cellier was a beautiful, expensive gourmet restaurant. So they were allowed to serve tiny bits of food and charge huge amounts for it. And they were allowed to be snooty. But really? The food was kinda average, and the vibe of the place was pretty dull. And very brown.

Anyhoo, Le Cellier was okay. I didn't love it. Our server had a lot to do with that, I think. As did my high expectations going in. In reality, our experience at Le Cellier was very dark and very chilly and not much fun, really! Not really my type of place. We won't go back.

We gave Le Cellier :) :) :) out of 5.

(It would have been 4 out of 5, if our server was nice!)

That night at EPCOT, we decided to try Liberty Inn!

It really is a pretty place! Lots of big white chairs and big glass windows, and lots of leftover food on the floor. Seriously, huh!? It felt like a massive food fight had just taken place in the restaurant. Leftover fries, straws, lids, bits of burgers... all over the floor! Hehheee, weird.

Anyway, I had the cheeseburger, fries, and S'mores for dessert.

IMG_0571.gif

The cheeseburger was pretty good, actually! Or maybe I was just really hungry. And I was so excited to taste my first ever S'mores! We don't have S'mores in Australia. In fact, I still don't really know what they are. This one was filled with a strange kinda caramel custard type filling. And the marshmallows on top were cold, but burnt. How odd!

Conan had the hot dog, fries, and a fruit cup for dessert.

IMG_0570.gif

He gobbled all his up too, but kinda made a "yuck" face at the end. Liberty Inn was okay, but just fast food, really. Nothing special.

And we were sad we missed the food fight. We threw a piece of fruit and some fries on the ground, just to say we joined in.

Hehee, no, I'm totally kidding. We didn't really. But the food on the ground really was quite odd.

We gave Liberty Inn :) :) out of 5. And I'm being generous there, because of the pretty white seats.

Next up... Tusker House and Spoodles!

Smores are usually made while at a bon fire (but they don't have to be). They are made of marshmallows, chocolate, and graham crackers. You basically make a sandwich with the ingredients. Two graham crackers act as the bread and the chocolate and toasted marshmallow are the filling. You stick it all together and enjoy. The heat of the marshmallow should start to melt the chocolate. They are yummy, but can often cause a mess. Thanks so much for your reviews......they have been wonderful!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just have to say I LOVED all your reviews. Thoroughly enjoyed every bite... er.. I mean PHOTO! Thanks so much for sharing your dining experiences with us. This had to be one of the best dining reviews I had the pleasure of reading.

btw, you can get "real" S'mores at the Chip N Dale Campfire. :thumbsup2

Thanks for your detailed review. I'm still debating about whether to keep our ressie for our first visit to Le Cellier. Since we're also debating about whether to add the dining plan, your comments about the differences in service by the same server really interested me. I do NOT understand why there would be a difference. Could it just be the fact that the servers are guaranteed 18% tip via dining plan whereas they have to actually work hard to earn that tip when folks are not on the dining plan? I haven't read through the rest of your reviews -- I was interested in just Le Cellier -- did you notice this difference in service at any other restaurant?

nice photos :) if you've seen my reviews of le cellier, i had just the opposite issue! They were absolutely the best on service, way better than even Cali Grill (which wasnt that great).

They picked my DS, 10 to be an honorary host, and he got to seat 2 parties, hilarious. My DS asked for a seperate table (not those long rows of smaller tables) and they happily accomodated with out me asking. Our waitress was beyond attentive. I couldnt drink more than half my tea and she would have a fresh glass on my table to replace (not just refills). DS had a shake with dinner and they gave him a coke also. She even refilled our bread without asking.

Loved every minute of it. I'm so bummed you had a bad experience. I did have one drink, but we were also on free dining.

Again, great trip report!

Your reviews and photos are fantastic! I hope this doesn't sound patronizing but I love Australians and their enthusiasm - this has really come through in your reviews.

Your reviews have been fantastic and so much fun to read! I love all the details and humor you add in. Thanks for taking time to write all the reviews for us. The photos are great!
