Our fabulous Disney Dining! Lots of photos -Day 8, Pop Century Food Court- Completed!

Loved your reviews lots of good information and some of it was so funny too. I guess I'll pass on the fried chicken at 50's PT next year.

Aussie Angel - about that bacon? That's the only type of bacon you'll find in the US except at a deli or a fancy restaurant. American bacon is a really rindy cut, as opposed to the very meaty kind of bacon we're used to. I can eat it because it's all there is bacon-wise but I wouldn't mind a nice cut of Aussie bacon sometime! People say Canadian bacon is similar but I don't buy that either. It's more like ham to me.

Anyway, nice reviews! Hope you enjoyed your time in the US and if you've committed your thoughts to the the board somewhere I'd love to look and see another Aussie's thoughts on this strange and interesting country ;)

Thanks for your reviews. I'm excited to try Tusker House now!

25 more days until we're in WDW!!!:yay:

Awww, thanks for everybody's nice comments!! :yay:

I actually did intend to write a trip report - I even made notes each night while at Disney! But I've just been so busy since returning to Australia, that I just haven't had the time. Maybe soon though!! And thanks for the encouragement!!

DisneyDork712 - I wish I had have tried those flatbreads at Pop! I really was going to try them before we left, but there was just so much other food to try!! I was soooo full after every day at Disney - I couldn't fit them in! Next time!!

kaysmommie - Don't skip the fried chicken at Prime Time just because of me! Try it for yourself. Who knows!? Maybe I was there on an off night. Or maybe the chef was smoking a cigarette while he was cooking my chicken. Heeee. Either way, have some, and see how you go!

roger_ramjet - I agree with you about American bacon in general. It's one of the only red meats that I actually enjoy, and I really did miss Australian bacon! We must have some hardier pigs here. Or somethin'!! I haven't written about my thoughts on the USA anywhere on the boards though - is there somewhere special to do that?! Don't worry, I only have nice things to say about America! I LOVED it and really, really, really want to go back soon! In a nutshell, everything in the US was bigger and brighter and louder and everything was just.... more! The people, the cities, the television channels, the food, the cars, the buildings - everything!! Loved it all. :)

And thankyou to everybody else who left nice messages, too! It's great to know I might have helped someone become a little bit more excited about their trip to Disney!!

What a fantastic bit of info you have provided.
A question for all now. My wife is a vegetarian and not a big eater at all! Do the buffets offer an alternative menu? I want to try them all, but can't see paying buffet prices for my finicky eating wifie and daughter. Any advice?

Thanks for the reviews & pictures! Your Ohana review sealed the deal for us going in August!

The Community Board would be a good place to share your thoughts on the US. A lot of people might be interested to hear about what you saw, and your experiences in particular cities.

Hey guys!

I know it's been aaaaaages since I wrote this dining report, but I thought I'd quickly pop back in to let you all know that after all your suggestions and encouragement, I'm finally writing my trip report! :yay:

So if you feel like journeying over to the trip reports board, feel free!

You can find it here...

Yay!

I just wanted to say what a wonderful dining review:goodvibes I'm going to DisneyWorld for the first time in August for my Wedding and Honeymoon and I will be there for 3 weeks. We are eating at some of the places you reviewed so it was great to see detailed reviews. From a fellow Aussie too;) great work!

Will go and have a look at your TR!

Just wanted to say that your reviews were fantastic! Witty, funny, and just fun to read! Thank you for posting them. Can't wait to read your trip report!

I'm glad you enjoyed our wonderful country. Hope you come back!

Great reviews! We also loved Ohana and Boma. I felt the same as you about Primetime - I won't eat there again. Great pics! Is that all you ate at Boma!? I felt it was my Dis duty to try everything and take notes!!:rotfl2:

Thanks for all your nice comments!! It's been fun to share my Disney food experiences!!

Summer-Caitlin... A fellow Aussie! Yay! There's not too many on these boards, I don't think! How exciting about your Disney wedding! You'll have to do a dining report when you return! :thumbsup2

MeetingMickeyIn2006... Thanks for your kind words! I hope I make it back to your country soon too! In fact, I'm coming to Hawaii in January for our honeymoon, and then hopefully back to DisneyWorld in September 2008! So... I will be back soon! Look out!!

S. Poppins... Ha! Yes, that's all we ate at Boma! I loved it, but I kinda got stuck on the peanut rice and the dips, cause they were so yummy. I just kept getting more and more of them instead of trying new things!

Thanks again guys!

Now the couple sitting next to us (about 10 inches away) weren't on the dining plan, and they had the same server as us. They had their drinks refilled. The different sections of the restaurant was explained to them. They had the breadsticks explained to them. They were checked on three times to make sure everything was okay. And we didn't get any of that. It was the first and only time I felt that the dining plan affected our service.
I know this is an older review, but we had the SAME experience on the dining plan. Wouldn't it be funny if it was even the same waiter? We barely saw him except when he was fawning over the people next to us (not on dining plan). . . and that place is so small you know how close we were to the people next to us! I had to keep leaning away from his rear in my face! I'd say beginning to end, we saw him for 3 minutes. Most of our serving and bussing was done by other CMs while he took complete care of the people next to us.

Too bad for him, we'd been tipping our waitstaff extra on top of the dining pland. He missed out!

I just finished your dining review. Wonderful! Thank you so much for taking the time to share it with us. The photos were great! Glad you had a great trip.:yay:

I'm a fellow Aussie and am planning a trip to WDW. I just wanted to know how you got on with the dining plan. There isn't very much information for International guests. How did you book reservations? I hope it wasn't by getting up early in the morning :) How far in advance did you make the reservations? Did the travel agent you booked with even know any of this information?

Thanks for the great report it was really informative.

Wow! I can't believe people are still reading this dining review! Yay!! :yay:

Disney owl & ColleenS... Thanks for your nice comments! :thumbsup2

MyGoofy26... Your server at Le Cellier really did sound a lot like ours! No good at all! It really was the only place where we felt the dining plan affected our service... boooo!

QuirkyButterfly... Hello, fellow Aussie! How did we learn about the dining plan? Basically, I played on these DIS Boards, a LOT!! I asked heaps of questions about the restaurants and the menus, and I read HEAPS of reviews and looked at lots of food photos!

Travel agents know pretty much nothing about Disney World in Australia. Plus, if you book accommodation through your travel agent, you'll pay almost double what you'll pay through the Disney website!

Anyway, with the restaurants... I recommend having a play on the official Disneyworld website first and browsing through some of the restaurant pages. Some will stand out to you - like Boma and 50's Prime Time stood out to us straight away. Once you've got a few you'd like to check out, look at the menus from AllEars - http://www.allearsnet.com/din/dining.htm.

Then after that, just look at lots of photos on these Disney boards! You might see a yummy dish that you like the look of, and want to make a reservation there.

Finding a time to make reservations was tricky - we did it late at night. About midnight our time is early morning in America. So we just called up one night and did all our reservations at once. I think it was about 4 or 5 months before we went, and we had no trouble getting all our reservations. :thumbsup2

I hope that helps!! Planning what to eat at Disneyworld was one of my favourite things about our whole trip! I love looking at the photos and planning our days around our restaurants - it's fun!!

If you have any other questions, feel free to PM me! I'm by no way an expert, but I'm happy to help you out if I can! I know how confusing it can be to get your head around things at first!

After stuffing ourselves over lunch at Sci-Fi, we had dinner reservations that night at ...

Raglan Road!

This was a last minute reservation that I made purely because of photos I saw on the DIS boards! If you notice, we stayed for 7 nights, but actually ate at 8 table-service restaurants. That's because we couldn't choose any restaurant to cancel, after we made our ADR at Raglan Road! We ended up paying for The Plaza, and using our free dining for everything else. Yahoo!

We really loved the atmosphere at Raglan Road. Being Australian, we're always up for a good pub, and Raglan Road didn't disappoint! The wait staff were friendly and relaxed, the Irish music being played was great, and the Irish manager popped around to all the tables at least twice to check that everything was going okay. Nice!!

For appetizer, I ordered the Dalkey Duo...

In the menu, it actually says the Dalkey Duo is for 2, but they let me order it by myself! Auh! I actually only ate about half - we learnt to pace ourselves after our Sci-Fi experience!! The little things on the forks are actually battered sausages, which were really yummy - if not a little bit too oily. Very cute presentation though!

Conan ordered the Drunk Chicken for his appetizer...

... which he also loved! The chicken was delicious (I had to have a taste!) and it came with a lime sauce which topped off the chicken beautifully.

For my main meal, I ordered the Keen Eye For The Shepherd's Pie...

And WOW! I loved this! I'm not much of a red-meat eater, because I don't really like the taste, but this was really, really yum!

Thanks for the pic of this!! I REALLY wanted to try this on our May trip but I wasn't sure what it would look like and I had heard some not so great things about it. Looks good to me!!

And by "this" I meant the Sheperd's Pie...I meant to only quote that pic.
