Our fabulous Disney Dining! Lots of photos -Day 8, Pop Century Food Court- Completed!

Oh my gosh! I just read all 4 pages of reviews and what fun! I laughed out loud so much that I was afraid of waking my roommate up. These were the best restaurant reviews I've ever read, and the pictures were great. I wish I had tried 'Ohana and Boma. OP, do you write for a living? If not, you'd have been great at it :thumbsup2 What a sense of humor!

Thanks for posting your reviews! Isn't the 1st time at WDW just AMAZING! You know what, your next few trips will get even better! Enjoy!!! :thumbsup2

AUGH!

I'm so sorry it's taken me so long to return with my next review!! I really do have a good excuse! Conan and I are moving house (and cities!), so there's stuff everywhere and a million things to do, and, and, and... I'm just bad. :rolleyes1 Sorry!!

But I'm back now, and I promise to churn out our last two days at Disney a bit quicker! :yay:

I have to say a huge THANKYOU to everybody for their nice comments! I love these boards - everybody is just so nice! Awww!

Thanks SnoweyWhite for your explanation of a S'more! I must say, the S'mores at Liberty Inn weren't anything like what you explained! They were some crazy s'mores. Hehee. Oh well.

Scotch, we didn't notice a difference in our service because of the Dining Plan anywhere else except for Le Cellier. Maybe that was just us though! Le Cellier was okay, but we definitely had better food and lots more fun at other restaurants. :thumbsup2

And CareBear84, I'm not a writer, I'm a teacher! Hehee. Thanks so much for your nice comments!

Before I start my next reviews, I thought of something else weird about Le Cellier that I just had to share. Our waiter called me Sir. Yes, sir!! Sir!!

Now, I'm a girly-girl. On the day we went to Le Cellier, I was wearing a stripey pink singlet and a denim skirt, and I had my long hair in a pony-tail. I'm 5"2, and I'm pretty sure I look nothing like a boy. Either the guy had a bit too much to drink, or he wasn't paying attention at all. After the first couple of times he said it, Conan and I looked at each other and said, "Is he saying sir!?" He stopped calling me Sir after a while, which was nice. In retrospect, I wish I had have started calling him Madam to see what would happen. Ha!

Okay, Day 6!!

We were at Animal Kingdom on Day 6, and WOW, was it hot! And crowded! And Expedition Everest was broken down. Boooo! Dinosaur scared the bee-jeezus out of me, and my whole body hurt from being thrown around on Primeval Whirl. Basically, we weren't having a fabulous time at Animal Kingdom, but the highlight of our time there was...

Tusker House!

Tusker House was YUM! The place was cool and spacious, unlike anywhere else in Animal Kingdom, and the food was great!

So I chose the Fried Chicken Sandwich, which came with steak fries, and Carrot Cake for dessert...

IMG_0595.gif

Maybe it was because all the other counter service meals we'd eaten had been pretty ordinary, but I thought my chicken sandwich was delicious! It was so tasty and crispy! The carrot cake was nice too, but not as fresh or yummy as the sandwich.

Conan had the Chicken Salad (what a surprise!), and cheesecake for dessert, which he gobbled down really quickly. He said his salad was fresh and delicious too. I didn't get a taste - he ate it too quickly!

IMG_0594.gif

We loved Tusker House! It was definitely the best counter service meal we ate at Disney.

We gave Tusker House :) :) :) :) out of 5!

That night, we had an ADR at ... Spoodles!

We didn't really know what to expect of Spoodles. We chose it because the menu on AllEars looked great, but I'd heard lots of bad things on the DIS boards. :confused3

So after catching the boat to Boardwalk Inn, we looked around the shops and cute little wooden walkways for a while. I loved the beachy feel! The actual boardwalk reminded me of the fair Tom Hanks goes to in Big, and finds that machine to wish he was big, and... well, you get the point. It was very cute! And after a long, hot day at Animal Kingdom, it was perfectly relaxing and nice!

We arrived at Spoodles about 5 minutes before our ADR time, and were seated straight away. Actually, the place was pretty empty! It filled up a bit in the time we were there, but there were always lots of free tables.

Our server was lovely, and was one of only a few people on our trip who picked up that we were Australian, and not British! So she got extra points straight away for that. :thumbsup2

So, appetizers! I chose the Mediterranean dips...

IMG_0600.gif

... which were great! The dips were hummus, tsatziki, curry, and garlic & fetta. It also came with HEAPS of pita bread, and some olives and almonds. It was a fantastic appetizer - I loved the way it was presented, and all the dips were so tasty!

Conan had the Garlic Shrimp for his appetizer...

IMG_0602.gif

... which he said were yum, but not fabulous. He said they could have been a bit more garlicy, but the shrimp themselves were good and fresh.

For my main, I had the Fettuccine Alfredo.

IMG_0603.gif

It was really, really good, and really, really big!! There was no way I could eat all of that pasta! It was nice and had lots of garlic, which I love - but I thought it could have done with something else in there, not just pasta. Maybe some semi-dried tomatoes, or mushrooms, or something to add a bit of colour and an extra taste. It was delicious, nevertheless!

Conan chose the New York Strip Steak for his main...

IMG_0604.gif

... which he LOVED! He said the steak was 'awesome'! In Conan terms, that means it must have been pretty damn good! The sweet potato fries it came with were good too, but he was so distracted by devouring his steak, he didn't really think about the fries!

I was so full after all that pasta, I wasn't too keen for dessert - but I got some anyway, cause it was free! Tehee!

I had some type of Orange Cheesecake thing...

IMG_0605.gif

... which was okay, but I think I was too full to enjoy it. The orange glaze on top had a really strong sweet orange flavour, and kind of overpowered everything else. It wasn't really my type of dessert, but I gave it a thumbs up anyway.

Conan chose the "Make your own Sundae" for his dessert. I tried to explain that I thought that was for kids, but he didn't care. We were in Disney World, after all! And he loves ice-cream sundaes!

IMG_0607.gif

He loved it, of course. He just chucked everything on top, and devoured it. Ahhh, there's my fella! :rolleyes1

Anyway, we loved Spoodles! The food wasn't my favourite on the trip, but it was still excellent, and the whole place had a really relaxed, airy, laid-back vibe to it that we loved. We'll definitely go back there next time!!

We gave Spoodles :) :) :) :) :) out of 5!

Next up... Lottawotta Lodge, and Sci-Fi Dine In!

Another great review, AA! And I'm one of the Dis'ers who loves Spoodles too. I've never really understood why it gets so many negative reviews and comments from others here - I've never had a bad meal there. Next time, try their breakfast - it's delicious. :thumbsup2

I have been truly enjoying your dining reviews! Have you written a trip report too? I'm sure it would be an incredible read. I'd love to hear about where else you visited in the US and Canada.

How awesome that you were able to take 7 weeks away and travel like that!! :thumbsup2

Thanks so much for sharing!

I just wanted to tell you that I have loved reading all your reviews!!! I also love all the pictures and details you have given. I'm glad you like Spoodles. So many on these boards don't like it and we love it! I'm also happy to see that despite some bad reviews you gave some restaurants a try anyway!

Thank you for the Spoodles review. I have that as a booked ADR for my next trip in January. DH and I wanted to try a restaurant at the Boardwalk where we are staying and decided the menu at Spoodles sounded inviting.

Mmmmmm the dip appetizer has my mouth watering now.

Thanks again!

Great review so far. We love Boma and we are trying Ohana and Spoodles for the first time. You have me very excited about our choices for new places this trip. :thumbsup2

Thanks for all your reviews. I especially enjoyed the 'Ohana's review. I know it is talked about alot on these boards, but I never really had any desire to try the place. After reading your review, I think it will be a must do on my next trip!

Thanks again to those lovely people who made some nice comments!! :thumbsup2

And thanks to everybody for being so patient! We're nearly near the end of my review now!

So our last full day at the park was spent at Blizzard Beach. Conan had the best day ever, and I spent most of it either hitching up my swimmers, or screaming at the top of my lungs, petrified on the slides. AUGH!

So we ate at Lottawotta Lodge for lunch, and unfortunately, we didn't bring our digital camera to Blizzard Beach! I have no photos! Sorry!!

Our meals were okay, but nothing too special. I had a hot dog, fries, and a vanilla soft serve ice cream for dessert. Conan had the cheeseburger, fries, and a chocolate soft serve! We LOVED the icecreams, and the other food was fine. The place definitely could have done with some more inside seating though!

We have Lottawotta Lodge :) :) out of 5, mostly for the icecreams. Hehee.

So that night was our last night at Disney World! Boooooooo!! :guilty:

We had an ADR at 50's Prime Time for dinner, then headed to Fantasmic afterwards for our final Disney adventure!

So... 50's Prime Time!

We were very excited about our reservations here. I thought it just sounded like lots of fun! After a week at Disney though, we were both pretty exhausted that night and hoped our server wasn't too over the top with us!

As it turned out, our server was great. She told me to get my elbows off the table a few times, and growled at me for not finishing my meal, but that was about it. I think she realised we weren't really up for the whole strict game thing, so she was pretty cruisey, really! Phew!

As for the setting, we both thought it was very cute and kitschy, but... I'd seen it all before in photos on the DIS boards! I love the DIS boards, but there were some things while at Disney I wish I didn't know about! Never mind.

So for starters, I chose the fried herb cheese...

IMG_0621.gif

YUM!! This was my favourite part of my meal. I didn't eat any of the grapes admittedly, but the cheese itself was awesome! The bread was toasted, and was very crunchy - if not a little TOO crunchy and hard! But the cheese made up for that!

Conan chose the Caesar salad for his starter...

IMG_0623.gif

... which he said was "alright!" In Conan speak, that means pretty good. He ate it all, anyway!!

So for my main, I chose the fried chicken...

IMG_0624.gif

I'd waited SO long to try this fried chicken, which I'd read SO much about on the DIS boards. I expected it to be magical!

But actually... it was kinda greasy, and not much different to KFC! While we were traveling around the US, I'd tried lots of fried chicken, at Bubba Gumps, traditional style in Savannah, and a few more places. I have to say, very sadly, that the 50's Prime Time fried chicken was seriously disappointing compared to all those other places! It just didn't taste very fresh, and was pretty fatty, too. Oh dear!

And also... the southern greens. I don't really know where to begin with them!! I've never tried southen greens before, and well, I certainly won't be having them again! I know lots of people love them, and I did try them, but they just weren't for me! Basically, I thought they smelt like cigarette smoke. Seriously. The smell of them made me feel slightly sick. The smell was so overpowering, that the chicken tasted like cigarette smoke too. And the potato. Euch!!!

Anyway. I guess southern greens just aren't for me! Our server growled at me for not eating them, but I explained I didn't really like them, and she explained that most people don't, except if you grow up eating them. She told me she likes to eat them when they're mixed with bacon fat. Oh, my, God. Please someone, pass me the bucket!!!

Okay, moving right along.

So Conan had the meatloaf for his main...

IMG_0625.gif

He chose it because he thought it might be fun, because his mother used to cook it all the time when he was growing up, and he hadn't eaten meatloaf in years. When he started eating it, he remembered why he hadn't eaten meatloaf in years. He said it was okay, but it was ... meatloaf. You know, kinda boring and meaty. He also said it was kinda dry.

For dessert, it was S'mores time!!! :Pinkbounc

IMG_0626.gif

Remember my bad S'mores experience at Liberty Inn? I couldn't wait to try these 50's Prime Time S'mores! Again, I'd heard so much about them!

And again, I'm sorry for being Negative Nelly here guys, but... they really weren't that spectacular. It was a yucky old stale biscuit, with some hard chocolate, and some marshmallows on top. The marshmallows were a bit dry, but sticky at the same time. Plus, it was really difficult to eat. *sigh!*

I ended up having a few bites, and that was it. I feel bad giving these negative reviews, but I was just really, really disappointed at the food quality at 50's Prime Time. Maybe I was expecting too much!? Who knows...

Conan was too full to eat a big dessert, so he just had a coke float, which I didn't take a photo of. I think by that stage, I was a bit over the whole 50's Prime Time thing, and just wanted to go get a good seat for Fantasmic!

As I said, I loved the fried herb cheese, but... that was all! The rest was either stale, greasy, or smelt like cigarettes. Not my idea of a nice, fresh meal! It was probably my least favourite meal of our time at Disney World. :guilty:

We gave 50's Prime Time... :) :) out of 5.

Next up... Our last day at Disney! Breakfast at Pop food court!

Great Reviews - I just reading the whole thread and now I'm STARVING!!! Great pictures and thoughtful reviews -- thanks again!!!

Oh-oh!! I'm back!! :yay:

It's been so long since I started writing this dining review, sorry!! I guess my excuse is... life!! Life just got in the way! And also, I haven't been playing on the DIS boards much, because they make me too sad, since we won't be returning to Disneyworld for years! Australia is just a bit too far away from Orlando for my liking!!

Anyway, I wanted to finish this dining review, because I don't like leaving things unfinished! So here I am, to write about our last day at Disney!!

Actually, this is going to be really quick, since it's only breakfast. Heeee!

We woke up that morning, very sadly. We packed our bags, and left Pop Century behind. Booooo! On the way out though, we grabbed a quick breakfast in the Pop food court.

This was actually our first meal at the Pop food court. And it was pretty yucky. We both chose the Pop waffle with bacon, and were both really disappointed. The waffles were nice and crunchy on top, but soggy on the bottom, for some reason. And the bacon was really fatty and icky. I think we picked at our waffles and bacon for a couple of minutes, then decided to leave them, and spend our remaining snack vouchers instead.

It's here where I'm going to profess my love for Disneyworld Cheese Popcorn. I have a thing for cheese popcorn, and this was seriously the best cheese popcorn I've ever had! So I spent my 3 remaining snack vouchers on bags of cheese popcorn. Yayyyyy! I had yellow fingertips for days!! popcorn::

We didn't take photos of our Pop food court breakfast, sorry. But trust me, you're better off not seeing it. Heee. It really was pretty bad.

We gave Pop Food Court :) out of 5. And that's me being nice.

And so... our Disney days had come to an end. Noooooo!!!

We had a fantabulous time dining at so many Disney restaurants! Most were great, some were awesome, and some were disasterous. But isn't that the fun of it all!?

Our favourites were probably 'Ohana, Spoodles and Raglan Road. I'd definitely try those ones again next time. And I'd make sure I made some time to visit Beaches & Cream next time, too!

Anyway, thanks heaps to those people who read and enjoyed my little dining review!! I've had fun, and I hope you have too!

Ta-tah!! :cool1:

Oh dear! I'm so sorry you had such a bad meal at POP. I've found that CS breakfast food in general at WDW is not very appealing. Most places are okay, nothing spectacular. I'm not really a big breakfast food fan anyway, unless DH cooks it. But the lunch/dinner at POP... WOW! Yum-E! We ate there a couple of times on our Disneymoon in 2005. The flatbreads are amazing - DH couldn't get enough of the chicken curry and chicken Mediterranean flatbreads. In fact, he specifically requested that I plan on at least one lunch or dinner at POP next week. That was is second request - after Boma! He liked it that much! I highly recommend it if you ever stay at POP again!

I've really enjoyed your dining reports and pics. Thank you so much for putting them together!

Hi there,
Thanks so much for coming back and finishing the review, i know how depressing it can be on these boards if youi don't have disney plans for a while. Anyway, great work, have really enjoyed the reviews, hope you get to go back soon,

Thank you for writing your reviews - funny and informative (like all great teachers are). Glad you had such a great trip and I'm sorry you're feeling the Disney version of homesickness. I get that too, especially since we keep pushing back our trip to save up more money so we can "do it right." I second the request for a trip report (if you can still remember it all) - think it would be a great read.
