Never went to myrtle Beach, always wanted to and this is the year. I am completely confused about picking a hotel. There are so many hotels to choose from, and so many different areas. Most important to me, cleanliness, good pool area, preferably bkfst included, the newer the better. Can anyone offer some help or opinions. I looked at trip advisor and I think it is just confusing me more! Also, this needs to be a budget trip since we just remodeled home. Thanks for your help in advance!

Are you going for this summer or some other time? That will help you greatly in the price range. If you go just one day after Labor Day the price will drop drastically. Most of the little dive shops and smaller family owned restaurants close down right after Labor Day.

We just returned from our Myrtle Beach vacation two weeks ago. :cool1: We really had a great time. We stayed at the Litchfield Beach and Golf Resort in Pawley's Island. I HIGHLY recommend it! :cheer2: :cheer2:

It is just south of Myrtle Beach. I saw it listed in some of the hotels on Travelocity. But, I saved a bunch of money just by going to their own website. Just Google Litchfield Beach and Golf Resort and you will find it. They had a summer special going on. I paid just $139.00 a night for a beautiful four bedroom fairway villa. It had three separate bathrooms and a full size kitchen, full size dining area, and a full-size living room. It was absolutely beautiful. We shared the place with my brother. They also have two bedroom villas and also regular hotel rooms. The resort is great. Each area has their own quiet pool. The hotels have their own pools. And then there is the resort's pool area that includes a lazy river and water play area (dumping water buckets, play submarine for little kids to climb in and play around, etc.). Access to the pools were included in the price of the room. Nothing extra. The beach is wonderful. There is a beach clubhouse (restaurant, rest rooms, etc.).

Their is a grocery store right by the resort (Piggly Wiggly). And a few restaurants too. We went out to dinner most nights. We ended up driving north towards Myrtle Beach (Garden City/Surfside) for dinner. There are a lot of great minature golf courses there as well. If you have little ones, the best and cheapest minature golf course is the Jungle one (Look for the elephants and giraffes). Three and younger play for free. The man let our four year old in for free as well. We went in the evening. The rest of the party paid $4.00 a piece. Much better than two of the other courses we played as well.

A while back, there was a great thread here on the DisBoards regarding lots of great things to do at Myrtle Beach. I can't remember what category it was in. But I got lots of great ideas for lodging and things to do from it.

Have fun!

I live here in Myrtle Beach so feel free to PM me for any info you might need or I can send you some info, brochures etc. I do recommend Litchfield also, unless you really want to stay downtown. Let me know if I can help.

We are going last week in August, and since we have never been there before would like to stay in myrtle beach, unless there is a reason we shouldn't. Is the main downtown area rundown? We are driving 12 hours to get there so the thought was to stay in the middle of everything so we don't have to drive around so much. I will look into Litchfield, thank you. I also was considering the Dunes Village Resort, seems to have mostly good reviews on trip advisor, and they are offering a really low rate of $90 per night for king suite ocean front room with kitchenette. I am alittle leery though because the deal seems too good, and I'm worried it's not in a good neighborhood or something is wrong with the hotel because the rate is alot cheaper than other hotels I checked. Anyone hear of it?

If we want to stay downtown, any suggestions as to hotels or condos?

Thanks again

We are staying at the Dayton House, which is on the strip in Myrtle Beach. I would consider this a great family resort! Wonderful pools (1 lazy river, 1 indoor pool, 1 outdoor pool & a hottub), great access to the beach (with a lawn full of umbrella chairs where we usually eat our lunch), very family friendly. We stayed there 2 times last year & once was for business...they do not allow anyone under 25 to stay w/o a parent, which some of our employees found inconvenient but I think it keeps the teenage population down. Now, I grew up going to Myrtle Beach, cruising, all the things the beach is known for, but when you get older, you find some of those things much less appealing! Also, there is a wonderful spot for family photos b/t the lawn & the beach. I took my tripod & got some of my favorite shots of our family. We can't wait to go back at the end of the month.

Oh, also a great Disney Store at Broadway at the Beach. (They also have a Jimmy Buffet's, which I think is a MUST for every Myrtle Beach visit!) Have fun!

My parents have a condo in Ocean Creek which is right near North Myrtle Beach, right across from Barefoot Landing, so it's a great location. It's clean, nice, they have a security gate (so it keeps people that aren't suppose to be there out) and they have wireless internet and I don't know if they do it year round but in June they had started give free breakfast at the dining place on site and it's a good breakfast. it comes included with your room stay. You just basically can walk out of your room and walk down to the beach so it's safe and easy to walk down there (there's also a trolley that will pick you up and take you back and forth from the beach) there are several outdoor pools and 1 indoor pool. Check it out, oceancreek.com, it's nice! ;) and Have a good trip to Myrtle, we love it down there! :thumbsup2

Grandeshores.com- its a great family oreiented place with lots of pools kids playground a place to eat not included but not far from some good cheap breakfast. We go every February for the marathon. This place is great and has many different accomidations. if you need any info just pm me.:cool1:

Hi All,
I have decided to book an oceanfront 1 bedroom suite at Dunes Village in MB. Does anyone know anythign about it? I've read it is a pretty residential area - does anyone know how the area is? Thanks for the help

My family came back from our first trip to Myrtle Beach early last week. We had a great time! We stayed at Barefoot Landing Golf resort in North Myrtle Beach. A couple of tips - get the coupon books (any savings is worth it - we had fun, but it can get costly). We went to see the show ONE at the Alabama Theatre. Was concerned my teen-age kids wouldn't like it, but they really enjoyed it. Look for the 'Kids free' night (we went on a Wednesday).

Barefoot Landing has shopping and restaurants along the inter-coastal waterway (nice but extra busy on Mondays - fireworks night). The Alligator Adventure is there as well - we enjoyed our 2 hrs there. We also ate and shopped a bit at Broadway at the Beach right in Myrtle Beach (their fireworks night is Tuesday - I wouldn't recommend trying eat dinner at one of the restaurants there that night unless you get there REALLY early). We also enjoyed an IMAX show there. There's also a nice Par 3 golf course called Cane Patch that my hubby and son enjoyed. The other one in Myrtle Beach is called Midway. The beach was great...water was warm. We don't get warm water in June in New Jersey. Anyway have a GREAT time! :)

I would recommend you stay south of Myrtle...in Surfside, Garden City, or Murrell's Inlet. The MB area is just always too crowded especially on the weekend. North Myrtle is a nice area, but it is a bit pricey for me. You could stay in the Pawley's area, but it is a little longer drive than the other 3 I recommended. You can drive through the other 3 and not even know you have left one and entered another they are so small.

I do highly recommend eating at Bovine's in Murrell's Inlet. It is a little pricey, but they have the 2nd best steaks I have ever eaten (The first being Kona @WDW)... Also we did Margaritaville, but if you are not prepared to wait for almost 3 hours for dinner then don't go or maybe try it for lunch. It is good food and an experience all in it's own. If you like seafood give Landry's Seafood House a try they had the best seafood ever and I ate a lot of seafood on this trip..haha Avoid the seafood buffet's they are always overcrowded, overpriced and not very good at all. The IMAX is cool, and we did the Aquarium as well this last visit. (I used to live there so I have done all this stuff before, but my kids never have so we had to do it all over. :rotfl:) There are a TOOONNNNN of putt putt courses, but the best one we played at was Mt. Alanticus in MB..it is really cool.

Have fun it is a great place..we love it!!!

We go to Myrlte Beach at least 4 times a summer as we're only a 3 hour drive away. Our preference is to stay in North Myrtle Beach. I always make our reservations off of ebay and it is typically someone selling a time share week. It has always worked out great for us.

We used the vacation rental by owner site that we were told about. It worked out really well for us and we did not consider it expensive for what we rented. We went to the Aquarium as well. I hadn't mentioned it since I thought it was expensive (full price $17.99/adult - AAA will get you $1 each ticket if I recall correctly) relative to its size. We also tried to eat at Margaritaville, but unfortunately that was the fireworks night and the wait was 2 1/2 to 3 hours, and that was at 8pm! I asked the hostess the best time to arrive and she said when they open at 11am or anytime before 2pm.
