Oprah goes too far again.

These "smart" girls are going to someday want to run for office, and guess what's coming back to haunt them?

Interesting. You're defending them, biasically calling them victims, but you think this will be held against them later on?

Which is it, something they chose to do and should be held against them or something that they should be able to say was not their fault?

Again, though, how is this Oprah's fault? Blame the FCC. Blame the religious right for making it this way in this country. Blame our government for chipping away at our personal freedoms.

You want them to harass Oprah like they did Howard? You want more of that?

I'm not saying it's Oprah's fault... I'm not saying it's Howard's fault. I'm saying that I think we can agree (not matter which side we think is correct) that there is a double standard. That's all... nothing more to read into it :confused3

I don't know why you are taking FCC. I don't rememer seeing any of the actual GGW footage. Any way the FCC doesn't investigate w/out complaints. If you think their was a voilation make a complaint. www.fcc.gov

That's BS. Almost every show gets at least one complaint. They choose which ones to go after.

It was the words they used during the show. The actual footage from Oprah was used on other shows and those words were bleeped out of fear of the FCC choosing them again.

You can't seriously think the men have no blame in this.
Like I said before - bimbos get more male attention than the plainer looking brainy girls. Of course the plainer looking girls are going to see this and realize the only way they can compete is to dumb themselves down and flaunt themselves.

Sure women are to blame as well but they got the idea from somewhere

There is absolutely a double standard when it comes to the FCC...it is a case by case farce.

It isn't like there is some set of rules to follow. The FCC arbitrarily decides what is or isn't a violation or not and what Howard gets fined for Oprah may not. Also...an owner or affiliate in city X may get fined while another owner or affiliate in a different city does not for airing the exact same thing. The FCC is a joke.

Of couse even though it was brought up by the OP, it really has nothing to do with the issue of the show.

Personally I wish they would just make the rules clear for once, enforce them such that anybody who breaks them for any reason pays a fine, and stop wasting our tax dollars on the their current agenda.

Or just stop the madness and let it go. In it's current state it's a joke and they might as well just open things up.

People complaining about hearing certain terms for breasts heard them on Oprah and she'll get away with it without even a warning.

You guys don't think guys do similar things to impress girls. I mean I could come up with half a dozen probably potentially deadly stunts etc I or others performed in high-school just to impress a girl. Girls may do things such as show their body which is a problem but not deadly whereas guys put their lives on the line to impress girls. The dumbing down thing is interesting as well because as a guy being one of the top in my class it was the same way and being the "nice guy" was definately not a girl catcher. Girls at that age are looking for the dumb jerk jock and guys want the dumb big ****ed blonde.

Actually Cardaway, I am female and I do feel the show was right on. There are way too many girls these days who lose themselves to please a guy. Sorry, but I just don't think a girl has to parade herself out the way it is being done these days. Was my generation different? I don't think so but it just didn't seem so out in the open and accepted.

Hey I agree that the FCC is a complete joke. I have first hand experience being on their target list. BUT that really has nothing to do with the topic of the show. It is just another way to bash Oprah.

and I don't even really like Oprah. I tuned in to see Pink (thinking she would perform). Sorry you are reaching on this one.

Did you see the show or are you just regurgating what Stern or who ever said?

If the show was more like your post, puting the blame everywhere it belongs, this thread would not exist. But there was Dr. Robin...

Yeah- I'm done with this argument. I don't think the OP is correct, and obviously neither do a few other people. And that's fine. We all get opinions: to each his own.

But this is more :stir: than an actual logical debate.

Then the focus should be her self esteem. At what point should she take the responsibility for her own actions?

Just wanted to add... I did not see the show.

Exactly. Guys will either play dumb, be the "bad boy" even if it means breaking the law, and even go broke to impress women.

How anybody thinks it's one sided is beyond this guy.

I think Dr.Robin has some good things to say but I find her incredibly long winded for television. I've always really liked Oprah, but she has started to change over the past year or so. Is it just me or does she seem more cocky than she did in the past?

That was the point of the show- that girls have no self esteem and for some reason feel the need to parade themselves and show off their bodies. The point of the show was that this is sad.

No one relinquished them of responsibility. Just put out the question, why is this even happening? Why do girls feel the need to act dumb/take their clothes off? What in society is contributing to this?

Believe me, I completely agree!!! But, why are so many guys (not all) just focused on the girls who are willing to show so much skin and who act dumb and not willing to give the smart, not hot beautiful girls a chance. Walk in any nightclub and look at who the guys a fawning over...

Self esteem gets beaten down at such an early age and by BOTH sexes!

I definitely agree that she seems more cocky!! It bothers me.

The only reason I watched the show in we're talking about is because it was a real issue. Not a parade of celebrities on her show talking about fluff.

The girls showing skin get attention, but only the smart girls keep it.
