This is not even from the "left wing" news. This is from Trump's favourite news channel... Fox News
https://www.foxnews.com/us/florida-14-percent-coronavirus-positivity-rate
"Hospitalizations were up by 585 people and health officials said 14 percent of Floridians have been infected COVID-19."

On a separate news, "Walt Disney World theme parks will open beginning July 11 for Magic Kingdom Park and Disney’s Animal Kingdom Park followed by EPCOT and Disney’s Hollywood Studios on July 15."

That is ONE WEEK from today... so if you bump in to 7 people there, chances are, one of them might have COVID-19. I am pretty sure they sit 7 people in a boat in It's a Small World. So my mental image is.... there is one COVID-19 patient on average, sitting among It's a Small World boat passengers. That feels scary.

they are correct on new cases but the vast majority are in south Florida. They are wrong on hospitalizations, they have been steady in south Florida and have plenty of capacity currently.

Confused about the 14%. Florida has a confirmed TOTAL number of cases of 190k and a total population of 21.48 million. That would be 3 million Floridians infected if the 14% was true. The total known US infected is 2.89 million.

I feel bad for all the people who wear masks and social distance. It must be beyond frustrating.
My biggest fear right now is Canadians that will flood the gates of WDW when they open the border.

I think they may be confusing the percentage of positive tests? I read the articles and they say 14% of people in Florida have been infected. But then they say the national rate of positive tests is 7% or something. Fox News isn’t very bright so it wouldn’t surprise me that they screwed that up lol

Why would you worry about Canada? We have a much lower infection rate than the US. My Province has 13 new cases since July 2. 13.
Florida has 11,000 new cases today.
Don’t worry, I doubt Canada will be in a hurry to open border. We believe in the science. Wear mask and social distance. Wearing a mask is curtesy to others. I’d never forgive myself if out of my carelessness I passed the virus on to a family member or friend. This is one scary virus.

Miami-Dade County, Broward, and Palm County are amongst the highest amount of cases, the last I looked those counties were half the Florida cases.
Wish that Orange County would have instituted mandatory mask wearing in the beginning of the pandemic, thankfully there was a mandate about 2 weeks ago, but it was late. When bars opened in Orange County, that was when there was an uptick in cases and hospitalizations..median age during the pandemic was 65, now it is 29 in Orange County. Younger people think they are invincible and are not diligent mask wearers unfortunately!

Sorry I reread my post and just wanted to clarify. I’m worried that Canadians will flood USA when the border opens and bring back the virus here. We are doing well controlling this thing and don’t want to go back to square 1.

@Sue M I think @wdwmom3 said that because the Canadians will go to Florida, and then possibly bring the virus back with them.

thanks for clarification. Obviously I read it wrong, That’s what I get for posting at 1am!
I just canceled our Aug trip. Still have Dec booked, taking wait and see. But deep down bracing myself for having to cancel that one too. Will wait till Nov. I hope the US can turn things around, but doubtful.

One thing to keep in mind is that we aren’t seeing higher numbers in Central Florida because it’s been pretty much closed to tourism. As visitors increase , numbers will increase.
The Florida map I just looked at today has Orlando red, along with Miami-Dade, Broward, Palm Beach, Jacksonville and other smaller red scattered around.
Its just so sad.

@Sue M , I feel your pain. It's hard hitting that cancel button. I do hope things change somehow by the end of the year but I'm afraid I've given up all hope. Looking forward to 2022 for getting back.
I rebooked Aug for 2021. Maybe too optimistic.

This is my fear as well. We’ve cancelled our August trip, not that it looks like DLR will be open then anyway. I’d never forgive myself if I was the one that brought this virus to my town. We haven’t had a single case yet.
