One in Five admit to peeing in the pool

Generally speaking, urine is one of the cleaner substances your body produces.

There's a quote about that in my favorite book "Death In The Long Grass". Guy got blasted in the face by a spitting cobra, and his buddies held him down and urinated in his eyes once they ran out of water. The professional hunter who witnessed it mentioned the incident to a doctor later who confirmed that urine is sterile (assuming no bladder infection or other ailment). The cobra victim regained his sight, btw :)

What does showering do before getting in the pool?

The cdc "recommends that people shower before a swim, because most people have traces of feces on their bottoms, which can contaminate recreational water."

:scared1: plugs ears with fingers "la la la la"

I've seen that, but fail to understand how the quick shower most take before heading for the pool could possibly take care of that.

Count me in as one of the 80% of people who DON'T pee in the pool!

I'm 35 weeks pregnant with twins and hit the rec center's pool about 3-4 times a week for pain relief. At this point, thanks to a VERY low baby playing with my bladder, I have to pee about every half hour (the feeling that I need to urinate is almost constant).

I pee before I leave the house... drive 2 minutes to the rec center & go to the bathroom one more time before I get into the pool.

I'm telling ya, the temptation to just pee in the pool instead of hauling my GIGANTIC, pregnant behind out of the pool and try to waddle quickly across the building (while not falling on my butt) to hit the bathroom is almost irresistable.

But I swear to you... I've never peed in the pool!!

(mainly because I'm afraid that chemical that changes the pool color actually exists :rotfl2:)

No peeing in the pool, and no vacations on the credit card. Only on the Dis do people defy the odds.

But the showers they put around the pool are often out in the open - are you supposed to take off your swimsuit and scrub your bottom in front of everyone watching? I don't think a quick rinse with water is going to get rid of anything in your pants.

Wait! Are you saying you AREN'T suppose to do that? Oops!

;)

My parents had a pool while I was a teen. The pool was in the middle of the back yard, and about 1.5 acres away from the house and the house was up hill. That pool had many a person pee in it. It was either that or pop a squat in the yard in front of everyone.

Actually, so far 7/32 people have pretty much admitted to having peed in a pool at some point. We're higher than the average pool-pee-wise.

People act like EVERYONE pees in the pool, and/or goes in debt to go on vacation. It's simply not true. Why should it be so shocking that people say they don't?

You burst my bubble. :sad2:

Now as far as chemicals that show peeing in the pool...it's BS. Do you know how many people, of both sexes and for whatever reason, leak a little. Pools would be filled with color!!

I have probably peed in the pool at some point in my life, but I was probably too young to remember it.
I can't imagine anyone (older child through adult) willingly peeing where they are swimming. I wouldn't stick my hands in my toilet, why would I pee where I'm sticking my whole body

Wait... the chemical that turns colors when you pee in the pool is a myth??

Excuse me, I have a few pools to visit... :rolleyes1

Peeing in the pool while drinking a beer.......the Circle of Life.;)

yes, I completely agree with you. I had to google search to find a reason to shower before going in the pool.
Anyway, I would have to die before allowing my body fluids to leak into a pool and that includes spit and snot. The thought of it just grosses me out.

There is no chemical that reveals urine in the pool..what there ARE, are companies that sell signs to make you THINK there is a magical chemical in the water ;)

Generally speaking, urine is one of the cleaner substances your body produces. A properly chlorinated (or over-chlorinated) pool, pretty much sterilizes anything that enters the water at any rate. (With a few more ermm..solid..exceptions...though even in that case, the offending substance is removed and the pool might be shock treated that evening.) Pee in the pool is really a case of mind over matter- pay it no mind, 'cause it really doesn't matter..lol.

Egad - a voice of reason and logic. Shush, you, no one wants to hear that. ;)

The cruddies that live on the average unwashed body are more un-sterile than urine and as this poster stated, the chlorine in the pool is going to kill it all anyhow. No biggie.
