One in Five admit to peeing in the pool

Egad - a voice of reason and logic. Shush, you, no one wants to hear that. ;)

The cruddies that live on the average unwashed body are more un-sterile than urine and as this poster stated, the chlorine in the pool is going to kill it all anyhow. No biggie.

It really has nothing to do with what is biologically reasonable, but more of the fact that we are a civilized and advanced species, there is no need for us to urinate in our recreational water. I don't care if the chlorine kills anything in your pee, a swimming pool is not, and should not be used as an extremely large toilet.

Sorry, but I am a very Spock-like person.

Logic and reason is what makes up a civilized society. One based on superstitions that contradict science has not yet evolved to the point of being truely civilized, IMHO.

You burst my bubble. :sad2:

Now as far as chemicals that show peeing in the pool...it's BS. Do you know how many people, of both sexes and for whatever reason, leak a little. Pools would be filled with color!!

I never thought about that and it occurred to me that the Little swimmers for non-potty trained kids only hold in feces not urine.

I'll just stick to the logic that because we are an advanced and civilized society we can have both pee free swimming pools for fun, and water filled toilets for our bathroom needs.
I guess I'm not Spock like, which is fine since he is a fictional character anyway ;)

You are correct in that logic. We can, and do, have separate places to recreate and to urinate, and this is as it should be.

*MY* logic comes in where we realize that because of the way the water in the pool is chemically treated, it isn't dangerous, disgusting, or paranoia-inducing if people DO pee in the pool.

Separate bits of logic. ;)

I'll bite: we have a pool. I've peed in it as an adult.

Now, I don't do this when I'm with other people (okay, maybe DFi or my mom) but if I'm just out for a morning swim I may just pee in the pool if I really really have to.

Gross? Yes. But, not the end of the world.

I went out on a date with this guy to the lake one time. We're out in the middle of nowhere on the lake and I have to go. Guy tells me get in the water and just let it rip. I'm pretty desperate at this point so into the lake I go. Except I couldn't go. I'm just so conditioned that a swimming hole of any kind is not a toilet that I honestly don't think I could pee if my very life depended on it. I honestly cannot imagine being able to just be in a pool or a lake or whatever and be relaxed enough to pee. I guess I'm just not wired that way.

Yep, I'm the freak who gets out of the ocean, towels off, and walks across burning hot sand all of the way to the restroom. Even worse, I passed this on to my children, and have to take them, as well, when they have to go.

:thumbsup2 its your pool...why does anyone care what you do in it...

But the showers they put around the pool are often out in the open - are you supposed to take off your swimsuit and scrub your bottom in front of everyone watching? I don't think a quick rinse with water is going to get rid of anything in your pants.

I was wondering the same thing.

Urine is sterile, so you won't "get" anything from urine in the pool... except grossed out, of course!

Showers are to rinse "surface contaminants"- bacteria, skin lotions, sand/dirt on your feet, hair products, etc.- from your skin before entering a pool, to keep the water physically cleaner. You keep your bathing suit on to do this.

Fortunately, public pools are well-chlorinated and most towns/cities/gyms are anal (ok, pun intended) about making sure they meet standards; otherwise the health department will shut them down. I am more nervous about backyard pools, where people aren't as diligent, might not know what they are doing, might be using last year's testing strips or chemicals, etc. There is also a much smaller volume of water for diluting contaminants in a backyard pool than a large community pool. Besides, as noted in a previous post, folks aren't as responsible about what they might do in their own pools as they would be out in public :scared: :upsidedow
