hi
Leaving on sept 12 th on the dream and already I worry ( not my first cruise in sept I always say to myself sept no more ) one of the worst exp I had was cruising just between Hanna &ike ( 2008 ??
One of my nicest cruise though but man did I worry ..
I look at accuweather .. Listen and read news I am a ball of nerves
I wouldnt mind port changes .. What I worry about is canceled Cruise
Am I alone who's on that cruise ???
When should I really worry for exemple bad weather 2-3 days prior to cruise ??
If no signs 2-3 days before it should be ok right ???

You are cruising during prime hurricane season, you should have started worrying about weather already. However, chances are you will be fine. Hurricanes very rarely impact cruise ships. They simply sail around them. And I can't think of one instance where a cruise ship capsized due to a hurricane.

Enjoy your cruise!

It can take over a week for a storm to traverse the Atlantic. So, keep an eye on what is developing/has developed off the coast of Africa around Sept. 5th and follow it from there. If there is nothing brewing by that point, chances are you won't have anything to worry about. Keep in mind though that the 5-day forecast cone is not very reliable beyond a couple of days. (For example, Tropical Storm Gaston is now predicted to head northwest for the next couple of days and then veer off in the middle of the Atlantic by the middle of next week. But, I wouldn't trust the Gaston forecast beyond Sunday morning at this point.) Since your cruise departs on a Monday, I'd only worry about a storm that is in the Caribbean by the Thursday beforehand.

We've cruised the Caribbean 5 times in Sep/Oct (various lines). And the worst weather we've encountered thus far was rain one day in St Thomas.

But you never know, weather is weather. But, chances are you'll have no issues at all.

As one of my favorite authors was fond of saying: Don't Panic.

The odds of a cruise being cancelled are very slim, a strong hurricane would likely have to be barreling down on the port on embarkation day for that to happen. Although rough water is a concern any time of year, other than that a cruise is a better choice during hurricane season than any other Caribbean destination. If you have a hotel for a week on Bermuda and a hurricane hits, well good luck. If you have a cruise scheduled to stop at Bermuda when a hurricane hits, then you don't go to Bermuda. The odds of a cruise being completely ruined by weather is much less than a land-based trip.

So relax, statistically speaking your cruise will almost certainly go as scheduled, even if the destinations change. Nothing we can do about the weather so nothing we can do but prepare for it and try to keep our spirits high. Just keep swimming...

We're in Bermuda this month with RCCL and planning a Disney OBB for Sept/October 2018, and I'm not worried. But I guess I look at it as: if your cruise is cancelled, DCL doesn't throw you to the wolves and shrug and say "what can you do?". It happens so very rarely, and every time I've heard of it happening, those on board get compensated - an RCCL cancellation I just read about got refunded, given a free future cruise, AND anyone booked onboard was welcome to make use of the boat as a floating hotel during their cruise week.

But, we're not big port people - we cruise for the cruise, the ports are incidental. So to me, I'd take even $200 OBC to miss a port. I might be slightly sad if it was CC, but Mexico? Give me my voucher and I'd be thrilled!

You booked September because of the cheap price. Most likely you will be fine. I'm not positive but I think DCL has only cancelled one cruise because of weather. I could be wrong. I know some other cruises have been extended or had less days because of the weather. Enjoy

We sail in September and I'm not worried. Then again, I live in Florida, so I'm pretty much used to ignoring the forecast for everything further out than a day or two. I can't even tell you the number of times I've seen the news freak out about a storm that's going to hit us in a week, only to have it swerve off or die off. It's not worth the mental energy to track storms for any reason other than entertainment.

But to be honest, I don't even trust the day-of weather forecast in the sun-tropics/tropics. I've been sitting in rain here in Orlando looking at my weather app assuring me there is a 0% (literally, it says 0%) chance of rain that day. I don't think 0% chance means what the weather forecasters think it means.

So, don't freak out. Take it from a Floridian: the hurricane will come. Or it won't. Now I'm off to go buy some bottled water and some bleach. 38 years in Florida and I still don't know why they want us to buy bleach.

You chose September because you like Lower Cost and ADVENTURE. Think of it as a reasonably safe adventure and enjoy the journey.

As a fellow Floridian, I really relate to this post, haha. I also completely agree with you. Forecasts are so untrustworthy around here it's ridiculous.

Are you flying to Florida for the cruise? If so, that could be a problem if flights are cancelled due to the storm. Hopefully you are flying in a day or more before you sail, and you have trip insurance.

I can relate... we are also flying to Florida shortly, and then cruising out of Port Canaveral!
It was so quiet all summer, and now there seems to be a new system forming every other day!
I just hope for the best.

By the way, there are so many other reasons why someone might choose August/September - it may be the one time they can get off work, or they may be celebrating something!

I avoid traveling anywhere in Sept/Oct b/c that's the worst time around my neck of the woods (or beach as it were) for storms (Ivan, etc) and I want to be able to get ready for one if I need to. If I lived somewhere else and drove to Port C I would definitely cruise those months---DCL knows how to sail around and they've been doing this for a while so they know how to maximize safety/minimize disruptions.

(PS I always think bleach is for the psychological advantage when cleaning up..if it smells like bleach it must be clean )

September 9th here. I am a Floridian as well but I am slightly nervous. We have taken numerous cruises in September though without a problem.

Well I am at 12 days before leaving and and I am working hard not to be too worried
But lets just say cannot wait for sept lets say 8 or 9 just to re-assure myself ( its only going to be 2 days left by then

Just start singing Hakuna Matata, you'll be fine. A cruise is a better option than a beach vacation in Sept, because at least you're mobile. They can sail around the weather or take a different itinerary altogether if it's that bad, so there's flexibility. If you're at a beach where a hurricane is headed, that's a worse situation.
