OMG! Woman assaulted in "The Mummy" at US/IOA!

And Damo, the disney cruise line incident was on the boards...just not in the community boards.

There is a suspect who is in custody on that case. That one adds up a little bit more than the other, in my opinion.

I knew about the cruise line incident, I posted a link to the article yesterday. I thought you meant a different one at the parks. Sorry. I didn't realize the cruise one happened on New Year's Day.

6'4" is pretty tall, if there are cameras that have any images on it, this hieght should be easy to pick out. Not your average 5'11-6 footer... I also hope that this really did not happen. At this time a year, the park is very croweded. How could this not have been seen or heard??? What was she doing by herself following a person she didn't know? If this is true, she is partially responsible. She should not be following someone she didn't know.. by herself. Mind you, I am not saying she deserved it, but just pointing out how one slip up in your judgement, and you are attacted.... not like it happened from out of no where.. he did not come up from behind, she went willingly You can understand a young teen doing it, but an adult.. :confused3 Was it or was it not a CM, they wear costumes.. they aren't in regular clothing? They have name tags?

In 1999, my mom's arms were badly bruised from another woman that was obviously having a very rough day. SHe grabbed my mom's arms to throw her out of the way when THOUSANDS of people are waiting for the parade to start and we were just trying get to the exit to beat the crowd. We went the Disney's main office in Orlando and they told us there was nothing they could do. That is why my family and I no longer support Disney Parks. It was our first trip to FL and my mom get assaulted. It was very disappointing that there was nothing they could do, even legal punishment because it was at the end of the day right before the parade started. I have never seen my father so mad in my life! So needless to say.......Universal still looks pretty good to my family b/c we have been there 4 times since then and it impresses me a little more each time. My thoughts and prayers go out this woman and her family, but I still feel much safer at UO than any Disney Park.

Well now in the second article they say as tall as 6'8. How could anyone miss someone THAT tall? It also stated that she was lured off a line of patrons. So, someone had to see him?:confused3

gee wonder if it was someone from the Orlando Magic :rotfl:
sorry, I know this isn't a time to joke but just could not resist it.. I think I meant to put 6'8 and for some reason did 6'4... I read the second article then did my post. My eyes are getting tired on me...:laundy:

if there are places that are unsecured, i would want to be aware of them.

i keep thinking about where in that area outside the line could anyone be taken that is in a hidden unused area.

.

According to my sources at Universal, and other parks, there is no cameras in any queue lines at any attraction in any park. I dont know if its true, I seem to think its not. However, if it is true, then that could be how this took place. There is an area in ROTM, from what I hear, just off the side of the Express line that is a maintenance path. Its not used, unless the ride is broken down, or an emergency...hence why it wasnt locked. Hopefully more will break on this Monday.

Just an example of monitoring of Mummy queue area: My elderly father fell and even before everyone in our group knew he had fallen, the park medical people somehow knew and were on their way. Also, there were park employees stationed inside the queue. I just find this allegation, odd, having just been in that ride queue myself.

IF this turns out to be legitimate.....I just want to say that in no way would this victim be responsible for someone assaulting her. Poor judgement....maybe! I don't care if she was standing naked in an empty hallway all alone......that still does not give ANYONE the right to touch her without permission. Why do alot of people immediately want to blame victims of assault? (Speaking rhetorically....we don't yet know if this person was assaulted or not.......investigation and time will tell)

I am ashamed to admit that my first thought when I read the article was that the incident sounds suspicious and I have been a victim of an assault by someone who was later criminally charged and convicted. My occupation in handling P & C claims teaches me to be suspicious. I am currently handling a claim for a woman who alleges she was sexually assaulted and raped in a senior Judge's chambers in Chicago where she was a secretary. The rapist was arrested, had an incompetent public defender and was convicted and currently sits in jail. The victim then made a civil claim against the building owner, the City, the cleaning service and security company. After looking at the records and the woman's background, it has become painfully clear that the woman was lying and the police were under pressure to make an arrest because of the high profile location of the alleged rape. It was also discovered that the woman claimed to be raped 2 times before and received hefty settlements on the civil actions she filed in those claims. Since she was a Jane Doe, her name did not show up on any court dockets when searches were conducted. Northwestern University's department for the wrongfully convicted has taken the case to try to have the alleged rapist exonerated. Poor guy probably prefers prison since he was a homeless, mentally impaired man. At least now he gets three squares a day and stays warm in the winter. My hope is that the woman is eventually criminally charged.

Long story short.... It is because of stories like mine above that people question the truth to some of these types of allegations. We just have to trust that the police are well trained to verify the story. I fully understand that the police have to proceed as if it is true and want them to proceed that way as an assumption has to be made that the victim is innocent unless there is overwhelming evidence otherwise. Assuming this is true, we can't blame the victim for not using common sense for following a strange man. I'm sure she is already beating herself up over that! I hope things turn out well for her.

The thing I find funny...Disney had a pretty much confirmed rape case on its cruise ship. Less than five stories. Universal had a suspected rape case.....minimum of 50 stories. Tigger beats th crap out of a kid...well, stumbles and hits the kid accidentally while the kid was pulling on the back of his suit.....minimum 200 stories.
Theres some publicity that money cant buy...for everything else their's assault.
Just seems funny how both of those other cases disappeared instantly just so everyone can debate on whether or not this family should get money for their kid being stupid. Lets forget about the threat of sexual assault.

So many people are writing letters and emails to complain that they shouldn't be suspending "Tigger" but where are the letters about improved safety on the cruise ship? I just don't get it!!!

Blinders. All the disney fans have blinders on. They'd rather insinuate that Universal had something to do with this, or that Universal was so terrible for having an accusation, but in truth they just dont want to see the place they hold so highly soiled and dirty.
I dont know which board it was on...maybe on Themeparkinsider.com but a lady was on the same ship that the rape happened on....they were stuck in Nassau for a long time and nothing was being said about why, only that "someone important" was coming in. She didnt hear anything about the incident until she was IN WDW and her friend called to make sure it wasnt her 14 yr old daughter who was the victim. After all, they had an event later the same night just for teens where they let the kids go back to the ship at 1 a.m. without supervision. But hey, Tigger slapped a kid and shouldnt lose his job.

Don't be too hard on the Disney fans who are supporting Tigger instead of screaming in outrage at the assault case on the Wonder. Tiggergate made the national news for several days, while the assault case on the Wonder seems to have been shrugged over by the national media. Why? Video. There is video of Tiggergate, but none related to the assault on the Wonder.

Also consider the fact that Tiggergate is an ongoing controversey, while the assault on the Wonder seems to have come to a satisfactory conclusion - the perpetrator has been arrested and will be brought to trial.

Having been aboard a Disney cruise, I don't see how Disney could improve safety to the point where this incident could have been prevented without posting security people in every single public space 24/7.

We've heard several stories about kids (not just teens) being let out of their programs to go back to their staterooms unsupervised. That alone, could be easily changed. We would never drop a child off at their own house without making sure they got in their door. I wouldn't let my child roam around a hotel alone either. I am sure there are many places where security for kids can be improved.

I see nothing wrong with the comments about the video and that the charges are ridiculous. It's when it comes to all the letter writing and emails, that I start to wonder. It is the extremes of the reactions to the rape on the Disney Cruise lines to the Tigger event that are perplexing. You would think the reactions would be the other way around.

I haven't seen any of those stories. And when I was on board, the rule for younger kids was iron-clad - no kid gets out of the Oceaneers Club or Lab without a parent signing them out. If this has indeed changed, DCL needs to do a hard review of the policies and procedures, because you are correct that a young kid wandering the passageways of the ship on their own is a recipe for disaster.

The victim in this assault was a 13-year old girl, one who obviously had the good sense not to go with a guy she didn't know but was assaulted anyway. At age 13, the teens are free to move about the ships on their own and have a completely different set of rules than the younger kids, so your mention of kid security is a completely separate issue and has no bearing on the assault case.

Come to think of it, the assault aboard the Wonder has no relationship to the topic of this thread, which is an assault on an adult woman inside IOA.

If you really think that there are problems with the kid procedures aboard the DCL ships, why not start a thread dedicated to that?

If you want to talk about the assault on the Wonder, there is already a MASSIVE thread aboput that:

Wow...kinda touchy about whats said against disney are we? The relation is that both are SEXUAL ASSAULT CASES AT THEME PARK DESTINATIONS. This is talking about one, so its logical that we can bring up another one,as I know for a fact the disney folks, such as yourself, has brought up the Universal case on the other thread. The point of it all is that they happened....and therefore security IS an issue, especially on a cruise ship that lets teenagers walk back to their rooms at 1 a.m. Are you telling me that Teens are responsible enough to be able to handle that? Have you ever dealt with a teenager? There are some exceptions, as there are to every rule....but this is the exact reason why teens should never have been allowed to go back to their rooms unattended. Tiggergate is a stupid over reaction by a stupid tourist who wants money.....people are seeing through that, as will disney eventually. The real cause for concern should not be whether or not Tigger keeps his job, because he will find another working in a theme park that pays minimum wage should he be let go. It really is appauling that people are willing to go into an outrage for a person who dresses up in a suit vs. people getting sexually assaulted....which by the way, the Universal case has not been going anywhere, and it is now widely believed to be a hoax...

Only if what is said is baseless, inflamatory, innacurate, or outright untrue; in this case, your assertion that we who show outrage at the Tiggergate case are somehow neglecting to pay attention to the more important cases of sexual assaultis both baseless and inflamatory. It is, of course, perfectly possible for a person to follow more than one important issue at a time, and commenting on the one you deem to be less important does not mean that we feel the other is less important.

To imply that those expressing outrage over Tiggergate don't care about the assault cases is untrue and I find it to be highly insulting.

Comparing one case to another is fine, in the context of the discussion. Your mention of the other case, and of Tiggergate, was completely off topic because you did so in the context of berating those of us who have not put the case on the Wonder at the forefront of our thoughts to the exclusion of all else.

The point of it all is that they happened....and therefore security IS an issue, especially on a cruise ship that lets teenagers walk back to their rooms at 1 a.m.

Security is always an issue, for every person, in every place, all the time. The point of this thread was to discuss one particular case; bringing up other cases as part of that discussion is fine, but I felt that you were trying to change the topic, when you should have started another thread with your topics.

For the record, your 2 topics - 1) security at theme parks in general, and 2) the comparisson of reactions to two different completely different kinds of stories - are both interesting to me and deserving of complete discussions. But only in their own dedicated threads. This thread was started to discuss the assault case at IOA.

Are you telling me that Teens are responsible enough to be able to handle that? Have you ever dealt with a teenager? There are some exceptions, as there are to every rule....but this is the exact reason why teens should never have been allowed to go back to their rooms unattended.

Yes, in fact, I think a most teens are responsible enough to walk from one end of an 800-foot ship to the other at 1am. We're not talking about walking home 5 miles from a shopping mall at 1am; the DCL ships are well-lit all through the night, completely self-contained and insular environments, and densely populated by several thousand people during a normal cruise. This does not make them "safe", but it does make them far safer than any place on land, and IMHO, safe enough for a 13-18 year old kid to be trusted to walk around without constant parental supervision.

And since you ask, I happen to have PLENTY of experience with kids of all ages from babies up through adulthood. I just don't do diapers.

Tiggergate is a stupid over reaction by a stupid tourist who wants money.....people are seeing through that, as will disney eventually.

Agreed, 100%.

The real cause for concern should not be whether or not Tigger keeps his job, because he will find another working in a theme park that pays minimum wage should he be let go. It really is appauling that people are willing to go into an outrage for a person who dresses up in a suit vs. people getting sexually assaulted....

Nobody is saying that the one case is more important than the other. Who said that? Who implied it? Who alluded to it with their actions? Show me who, and I will be right there beside you calling them idiots.

The one issue has nothing to do with the other. I have plenty of room in my emotional spectrum for both outrage over Tiggergate and outrage over a hienous assault on a 13 year old. Don't you?

which by the way, the Universal case has not been going anywhere, and it is now widely believed to be a hoax...

Widely believed by whom? By the authorities investigating? By the general public? By people on the DIS Boards? Please cite your source; we here on the DIS and the public in general know little to nothing about the intricate details of a police investigation, but if the authorities believe it's a hoax, that's a horse of a different color.

Thats way to long to read, much less comment on. Move along please.:goodvibes

Willcad has always been a staunch supporter of Universal. He is not one that blindly follows the mouse. He makes some valid points.

we let our 13 year old daughter have free access to the parks if she has a friend and their cell phones, we'll meet up with them throughout the day.

if we (or their parents) didn't trust the atmosphere at UO in the slightest (with the exception of HHN), they wouldn't have that opportunity.
