Wow...kinda touchy about whats said against disney are we?
Only if what is said is baseless, inflamatory, innacurate, or outright untrue; in this case, your assertion that we who show outrage at the Tiggergate case are somehow neglecting to pay attention to the more important cases of sexual assaultis both baseless and inflamatory. It is, of course, perfectly possible for a person to follow more than one important issue at a time, and commenting on the one you deem to be less important does not mean that we feel the other is less important.
To imply that those expressing outrage over Tiggergate don't care about the assault cases is untrue and I find it to be highly insulting.
The relation is that both are SEXUAL ASSAULT CASES AT THEME PARK DESTINATIONS. This is talking about one, so its logical that we can bring up another one,as I know for a fact the disney folks, such as yourself, has brought up the Universal case on the other thread.
Comparing one case to another is fine, in the context of the discussion. Your mention of the other case, and of Tiggergate, was completely off topic because you did so in the context of berating those of us who have not put the case on the Wonder at the forefront of our thoughts to the exclusion of all else.
The point of it all is that they happened....and therefore security IS an issue, especially on a cruise ship that lets teenagers walk back to their rooms at 1 a.m.
Security is always an issue, for every person, in every place, all the time. The point of this thread was to discuss one particular case; bringing up other cases as part of that discussion is fine, but I felt that you were trying to change the topic, when you should have started another thread with your topics.
For the record, your 2 topics - 1) security at theme parks in general, and 2) the comparisson of reactions to two different completely different kinds of stories - are both interesting to me and deserving of complete discussions. But only in their own dedicated threads. This thread was started to discuss the assault case at IOA.
Are you telling me that Teens are responsible enough to be able to handle that? Have you ever dealt with a teenager? There are some exceptions, as there are to every rule....but this is the exact reason why teens should never have been allowed to go back to their rooms unattended.
Yes, in fact, I think a most teens are responsible enough to walk from one end of an 800-foot ship to the other at 1am. We're not talking about walking home 5 miles from a shopping mall at 1am; the
DCL ships are well-lit all through the night, completely self-contained and insular environments, and densely populated by several thousand people during a normal cruise. This does not make them "safe", but it does make them far
safer than any place on land, and IMHO, safe enough for a 13-18 year old kid to be trusted to walk around without constant parental supervision.
And since you ask, I happen to have PLENTY of experience with kids of all ages from babies up through adulthood. I just don't do diapers.
Tiggergate is a stupid over reaction by a stupid tourist who wants money.....people are seeing through that, as will disney eventually.
Agreed, 100%.
The real cause for concern should not be whether or not Tigger keeps his job, because he will find another working in a theme park that pays minimum wage should he be let go. It really is appauling that people are willing to go into an outrage for a person who dresses up in a suit vs. people getting sexually assaulted....
Nobody is saying that the one case is more important than the other. Who said that? Who implied it? Who alluded to it with their actions? Show me who, and I will be right there beside you calling them idiots.
The one issue has nothing to do with the other. I have plenty of room in my emotional spectrum for both outrage over Tiggergate and outrage over a hienous assault on a 13 year old. Don't you?
which by the way, the Universal case has not been going anywhere, and it is now widely believed to be a hoax...
Widely believed by whom? By the authorities investigating? By the general public? By people on the DIS Boards? Please cite your source; we here on the DIS and the public in general know little to nothing about the intricate details of a police investigation, but if the authorities believe it's a hoax, that's a horse of a different color.
