ok, I live in a luxuary apartment complex. I am paying 1675 for a 2 bedroom and with leaving a job and going back to school, it is going to be VERY hard to pay for that.
In my complex they have what is called "affordable housing" which if you make under 65,000 a year you can get reduced rent. (that amount is like what????)
anyhoo. I got the offer to take a 1 bedroom, I will be going from a 1200 sq feet to 910. and I will pay 1058 a month.

NOW the thing...

I am out by the pool today and my friend in that building told me that a women committed suicide in there last week. She drank and took some pills, now I remember hearing this on the scanner. but did not realize it.

The thing about this apartment is it is in the most ultimate location! 5th floor over looking the pool, has a balcony twice the size of everyone elses. and the floor plan is AWESOME!!!
I was SO HAPPY to get this, until hearing what happned.

now I was completely freaked out when I first heard this....
I went into the office and asked if we can talk about this...they said they did not hear it was suicide, I asked if the body was in tack, or did she blow her head off! I wanted to get RIGHT to the point!
I have enough issues without ghostly spirits haunting me from beyond!

They said no, she was in tack, pills and booze I guess, They said they had a cleaning crew in cleaning, (bodily fluids) and I asked if they would put NEW Carpet in, she said YES OF COURSE.

I also bargained for free storage space which runs around 50 a month AND they gave me free INDOOR garage parking.

now what would YOU do knowing what had happened? would it bother you? I had only one other option and the other is way to small, and has no indoor parking or storage and no room for my stuff!

would YOU move in?

Honestly? Wouldn't bother me a bit. Because it was a suicide it was more well known, opposed to someone dying of natural causes. Sounds like you got a great deal and I would take it. But then again, not much really bothers me.

Someone probably died in the aprtment you were/are in. People pass away all the time for every possible reason.

Just ask to add a ghost clause to the lease...

I would move to a small town, you can get an entire house for $500 to $600 here in small town Iowa.:thumbsup2
We have a huge house and our mortgage is $560 a month.:thumbsup2
Why rent when you can own we figured.:confused3
Someone did die in our house, plus our back yard used to be a cemetery till they moved it out of town. Sometimes the occurrences are unsettling, but we made friends with them!:lmao:

no problem at all.

Most people can't just pick up and move to a small town. I would love to move to one personally and so would DH. But we both refuse to leave my dad alone here.

Of course I'd move in.

What exactly are you afraid of? Do you think the apartment is cursed and that everyone who lives there will off themselves or do you fear the ghost of that woman and anyone else who might have died there?

I thought I would never leave the city, it was hard to get used to but I love that our kid is safe playing outside w/ his friends.
I know it is hard to pick up and leave sometimes but what she discribes is crazy expensive! I would think she could afford to move if she is paying that much. I also realize it can be hard to leave family, I used to visit my folks once a week and now we visit once a month.
If your dad needs your care maybe you could take him w/ you? Small town life is so much better.:thumbsup2

My hourse is 125-130 years old. So I'd be surprised if someone hadn't died in this house at some point- expecially in the late 1800 - early 1900's. It wasn't until you brought it up that I even throught about it. We've raised a happy family here for the past 15 years - it's home! It's a bright, sunny place because of the people in it. No reasons your apartment can't be the same.

I'd take the apartment but I'd never live in a house built over a former cemetery.
We had friends who bought a house in town after they moved the old cemetery across the road to build a new housing development. They've been very happy there, last I heard anyway. I don't think they've had to move into a motel and roll the TV outside the room yet.
Not for me though, seen too many of those movies...:lmao:

The last house I lived in before I moved out of my parents place had a suicide in it. The previous owner left the car running in the garage. A neighbor found him by looking in the windows, he got worried after a few days of not seeing him around and seeing the newspapers pile up on the lawn. Anyway, no one in my family had an issue with it and we all lived there happily for about 7 years. No ghosts that we noticed!

I would grab it! Sounds perfect along with a rent decrease!:thumbsup2

Years ago my friends and I were looking to rent a house in a really great area. An offer from the realtor gave us a $ we couldn't refuse on a historic property. The house was just amazing with lots of property. Eventually the realtor outed the story to us that the owner died in the house along with all the gory details...We took 3 seconds to confirm we still wanted it!

If I know about something like that, then no, I won't live there. Ignorance is bliss for me on this subject.

Because when you rent, you get a landlord to take care of all the pesky (and expensive) homeowner stuff! :goodvibes

:rotfl2: :lmao:

Friend of mine as a child lived waaaay out in the boonies of San Jose CA. Her road cut through a very old cemetary. When we went walking or horse-back riding, we had rituals for getting through the cemetary, mainly involving holding our breath and going as fast as possible.

Her house was big, almost in a ravine, and her big deck was built around a HUGE oak tree.

We watched Poltergeist at HER house, in her living room, with that tree right outside the windows!!!!! Made that movie even scarier than it already was.

Sold! Sounds like you're getting a deal cause you know what happened there. I'd snap that place up quick before they can change their minds.

Feel bad for the woman and her family. Feel good for yourself.

Small towns don't always mean small living expenses. I would guess your costs are more regional overall plus the cemetary thing.

I live in a "small" town of less than 3500 people. My mortgage is well over $2200/m plus $920 per month for property taxes and $37/m for community fees.

Would I live there? Not no, but hell no!

However, that's me. If it doesn't bug you, cut a good deal and move on in.

But not everyone wants to live in small town Iowa.

Does your $560 include taxes and insurance?

nah, wouldn't be worried about ghosts - be glad they're changing the carpet, you got free indoor parking and a reduction on the storage space!
