OLD THREAD: 2012 Beach and Yacht FAQ, Part 2- May, June and July DON'T POST HERE!

Regarding holding chairs/umbrellas at SAB: I was told right before heading off on my vacation to the dude ranch that this summer in particular they are cracking down big time on holding chairs/umbrellas. If you are in the water, fine. However, if they notice nobody touching anything on a chair that has a towel, or a book, or a t-shirt for over 30 minutes, it is taken off. The resort is crowded and I was told "reserving chairs" is going to be strictly enforced. They have enough lifeguards/recreation CMs around to enforce this and apparently they are!!

Yes, everyone except for kids under 3 must show their room key to be admitted to SAB. The CMs at the entrance points will put a wristband on you.

I have a waterwallet that I use for any cash/room keys/credit cards. There are also lockers you can use free of charge- next to Poolside Gifts and also in the nearby Health Club. If you bring a camera or cell phone to the pool, I suggest you use those. (There are pictures on the first page of this thread, second post)

My personal opinion is that while you are at the pool, it is perfectly acceptable to put your towel and bag/book, whatever you have to reserve a chair while you are enjoying the water. We are not really ones to sit out, but our family of 4 will usually grab a couple of chairs as home base.

I'm not a big fan of people who go out at 10, set out towels, go to a park and come back at 2 to enjoy the pool. I don't know if the towel game goes on at SAB, but it shouldn't IMHO.

I totally agree with you when it comes to people "saving" chairs. Last year, there was this guy who would stand outside the gate and wait for 30 minutes or more for the gate to open. He would be allowed to get his towels and have his wrist thing on and when the pool was open, he would run in and save about 15 chairs right up by the pool. One day I got out there before him, he was not a happy guy. lol

Love the slide show!!! You weren't convinced Dee? :lmao:

We're still debating our August trip to BC. Our APs are expiring which doubles the cost of the trip. We definitely got our money's worth out of this year's APs. I'm renewing my AP because I'm doing several runDisney events (including the Tower of Terror race in late September when I'm staying at BC). Less clear about my husband and children.
I'm really trying to brainstorm ways to cut back on spending $$$ on the trip. I'm thinking that we can really take advantage of the Club Lounge to decrease meal costs. We're going to cancel many of our buffet/all inclusive ADRs because the cost isn't worth it (so much for my 1st time at Cape May for dinner but the cost is staggering for a family of 5, even with a TIW card). Any advice or thoughts? I'm thinking a garden grocer order for water, gatorade, and snacks. Breakfast in club lounge. We usually put some cold cereal in ziplock baggies to eat as snacks during the day. Hors d'oeuvres from the club lounge and then maybe counter serve or less expensive dinners in World Showcase?

Cancel Cape May for dinner. It's totally changed and we cancelled our reservation for August when Jeanne is there. Breakfast every morning in the lounge will help big time. I think your plan is good as far as ordering water and gatorade too.

If you don't have refillable mugs, then bring along a small cooler and take ice and cans of soda from the lounge and your water and gatorade to the pool.

Oh dear Disney, PLEASE send the discount emails that Feckless doesn't want MY way!!!

My 11 year old so desperately wants to go this year. Ben is very jealous of Nate's class trip last month. He goes to the Disney website every few days and prices trips (note to self: hide credit cards) and he even prepared a Powerpoint presentation of the Top Ten Reasons We Should Go To Disney This Summer.

That is adorable! That is determination for sure!

Thanks Teena! I feel much better about canceling Cape May. I find that the a la carte menus are a much better deal for us because the kids can share meals and we get our TIW discount. I think I'll also cancel Teppan Edo which doesn't accept TIW and is overpriced. We have a similar place 1 mile from our house that is cheaper and better. Garden Grill and Akhershus are harder to cancel because my kids love them so much....
I need to see the cash flow in the next month and decide. We already have plane tickets so it kills me to cancel the trip. I'm also debating a split stay with the Cabins at Fort Wilderness since we loved it there so much (last week - was it really only last week that we were there???). And I could cook some meals in the Cabin and cut down on food costs....

You can do it, Amanda!!!! Cut back as much as you can - it doesn't matter, you'll be at Disney!

Ninjamom, I hear ya! Once the rates come out in July it will be all I can do not to try another May trip... Italy in Epcot won't do it because there is family to visit in the "real" Italy! LOL

Dee, LOVE the slideshow (the "hat fail" was my favorite!)

Some of our favorite less expensive ts were Beaches and Cream, Rose and Crown, the Plaza, Sci-fi, 50's PTC and (if you stick with pizza) Via Napoli. There are so many good cs restaurants in EPCOT. We did this when we took and "extra" trip in 2008 (it was our third that year). We utilized the lounge a lot of did a few ts and lots of cs.

Our APs expired last August. This is the first year in a long time that we're doing MYW tickets. We'll probably upgrade just one before we leave so we can take advantage of AP discounts next year.

Yeah to the cracking down on the "chair holders".

We never get a chair until we're coming down to the pool to stay. Even then we usually only take 3 chairs for the 5 of us.

I just realized how addicted I am to Y&BC thread. Who else out there checks in here before looking at their checking account balance or their email?????

If I go six hours without looking I feel like I might have missed something....

Sick. I know......Better go take a look at that checking account...

I usually check my Facebook first and then I come here. These days I seem to forget to check the email. :lmao: I've got my first YC visit coming up. This thread is a priority.

Great advice! Thank you. I can't stomach the new AP prices for children.

Question about the bedding/decor at YC - On the Disney website, the photos of the YC rooms show mostly rooms with white bedding and solid navy blue curtains, but one has a blue bedspread with sail boats. Is there actually different decor in different rooms, or is one version a picture of the rooms before they were updated? We really like the look of the "white" rooms, the sail boat bed looks a little dreary.

Lol I do the same thing. I check first thing in the morning and then if I can I sneak a peak in the afternoon and if I can't I feel so behind by the evening

We just returned a couple days ago. We were at SAB everyday. We saw cm's removing towels from " saved " chairs that had not been touched for a while. A few times they asked if the people who put the towels next to us we're still usi g the chairs. Since we had not seen them for like 2 hours since they put them down we just shrugged and said we had not seen them . The towels were removed. One time a lady asked my DH not to let anyone take their chairs they would be back later that afternoon . This was at like 11 am. DH told the lady that he is not trying to be rude but he is on vacation and is not going to worry about their chairs . While we were in the lazy river sure enough the towels were removed:rolleyes: they are definitely cracking down

Teena,

I know before you left for the Ranch, you had said there were changes but can't remember exactly what they were. We loved it last year when we were there, but are debating for next year as it will be just a mother/daughter trip.

TIA Chris

Hahaha! A kid after my own heart :)
My family would love the emails Feckless can't use.

I do the same thing! I just got back from WDW and I'm thinking about "next time" :)

Mine, too, if there's enough to spare!! :)

Dee, your son's powerpoint was AWESOME!! That is one smart, creative kid. Kudos to him!

We shall see if the parents cave. ;)

It's hot as heck here...going to spend the day in our pool (in between packing for DS#1's church camp trip, since he leaves tomorrow). Sure wish we had an SAB in our backyard. :rotfl:

Oh my! I haven't even gone on "this" trip yet, and I'm already thinking about my next one! :rotfl2:

Me too! Our next trip is Oct. and I'm thinking about Sept/Oct of 2013 already too.

And...June 2014 is our 10th anniversary and I'm already thinking about what we're going to do for that - a Disney cruise? Aulani? An Adventures by Disney trip?

It's never too early!
