Old park hopper question

We thought we had all our tickets squared away for our upcoming trip, but my mom just came back last week and told me about a small ticket problem they had. I am hoping to get some input on what to do. We have several different park hoppers with 4 days left on them from previous trips. My DH and I have 10 day MYW tix unused. I like keeping 1 day on my different tix so I have more options later on. Anyway, my dad asked at Guest Relations to check how many days were on his hopper. They said they couldn't read that kind and would have to reissue him a new one. Is this a common practice now or was that a single case of the strip really not working? I know that the MYW tickets will be only used for each of us but I had planned on being able to interchange the remaining hoppers between my husband and myself in future trips. I guess I'm asking if I need to write my name on the old ones too so they don't get mixed up. Hope this makes sense.

The old tickets now require you to have your fingers scanned every time you use them. Once they are ticket tagged with your fingers only that person will be able to use that ticket. Not trading around.

How old was the ticket your Dad used?

I think his ticket was about 5 years old. I'm sure the ticket itself was just messed up. That's good info to know. It doesn't surprise me since the tickets are non-transferable. I'm glad I didn't assume.

If the magnetic stripe does not work, they use the letters and codes on the back to get the usage history from the data banks. The ticket will be re-issued. You may be asked what you think the remaining days on the ticket are. I doubt the CM will claim your ticket has fewer remaining days than what you say without showing you the usage history on the computer screen.

Once tickets are partially used and saved for the future there is no advantage to using all except one day on each ticket versus use one ticket up completely leaving more days on another ticket.

When your vacation is 4 to 10 days long and you should use just one new MYW pass that covers it all, or have enough old passes to cover it all.

Vacations of 8 to 10 days are usually better done with expiring tickets.
