OK - I'm thinking I may be able to come for part of the trip. I definitely can't make the whole trip because DH is leaving for TO on June 25 - so I would have to be home on the 24. Does anyone know when a schedule will start happening?

I've never been to LV, so it will all be new and shiny for me!

YAY!! Another one to join us. Have no idea about the schedule, I'll just go (almost) anywhere the others go.

Another Vegas virgin!! :cool1::cool1::cool1::cool1:

I think a schedule will be in the works really soon. :thumbsup2

Stacie, I think I asked this already, but I can't remember what the answer was. LOL Is your friend Doreen still coming?

And I sent Audra a PM but I haven't heard back so I don't know if she's still coming or not. If she did, she was staying with family or friends anyway.

She's going to try; she said if there wasn't room in the timeshare, she would get a hotel room. She's got some family stuff going on, and her brother found out a few months ago that he has pancreatic cancer. She really wants to go.

Something I noticed that they changed in the description of the timeshare "Suites are in 2 and 3 story buildings with no elevator." Cheryl, will that be a problem? I will still call and ask, but just wanted to let you know what is said.

Theresa, did you want to stay in the timeshare? We are getting close to 6 people, so it may be time to get a 2nd one. I think Debbie wants to stay in it as well, so if T & D are in for the timeshare, that gives us 6. Then, possibly Michelle and Doreen. There is still a timeshare available for 4 if we need it.

Oh no, I'm so sorry to hear about your friend's brother. How sad. I hope she is still able to make it.

No elevator? Yikes. 2 stories might not be so bad, but 3 would be. Can you request a room location?

So in the timeshare now are:
Stacie(lee)
Stacie(rita)
Cheryl
Wendy
Debra
and possibly Theresa?
That's the six right?

Here is a link to the tripadvisor page with the reviews for the timeshare: http://las-vegas-hotels.tripadvisor...er_Bay_Resort_Las_Vegas-Las_Vegas_Nevada.html

You can see candid traveler's photos (click on photos 46), which is what I always like to look at. It seems nice. The reviews say to ask for a remodeled unit, so Stacie, maybe when you call you could see what they say about that.

Also Cheryl will have a car right? Or else you'll take taxis? I seriously do not want anyone doing that walk from the hotel to the Strip. It is not a nice area, nor a nice walk.

In Vegas, as a tourist you are safest when you are hanging out on the Strip OR in one of the residential neighborhoods like Henderson, Green Valley, or Summerlin (where we live). The residential areas that are immediately surrounding the Strip are NOT nice. They have a lot of the lower income or homeless, lots of gang related crime, drugs, prostitution, etc.

That's pretty much the way it is in any big city. You have your nice areas, and your tourist areas which are all fine, then you have certain areas to steer clear of. I'm not saying this to scare anyone, but I know we have some Vegas newbies and I just wanted to let them know what's what. You're hotel is totally fine, just don't go out for a stroll alone at midnight is all I'm saying. Be smart and you'll be fine.

(hmmmm, I sound like my mother now  )

Stacie, if your friend or anyone else ends up needing a hotel room for those dates, MGM is having some deals during that time: http://hotels.travelzoo.com/las-vegas-hotels/558011?ptl=done&rating=&tppct=

For June 21, 22, 23, 24, and 25 it's only $49 a night. Plus you get some free slot play and club passes.
Then June 26 it's $97, and June 27 it's $104. (Fri and Sat are always higher)

Anyway, just thought I'd toss that out there in case anyone was interested or we ended up with some who needed a hotel room. :)

Is anyone staying at a hotel on the strip?? My "issue" is that I really don't sleep well (even at home), so I usually work and bug the bejeebers out of anyone I'm with (except my son and DH, who know me and love me anyway ). I want to be economical, but I don't want to cheese everyone off either!

That being said, if I'm the only one staying at a hotel, it may be an issue, right, with doing stuff together??

Oh my, I just took a look and these seem really nice! How hard would it be if I were to stay here and still be "with" the group??

Theresa, I'm staying at home, lol, so I can't help you there. And I think so far, everyone had been in the timeshare.
But that deal I posted for the MGM Grand is pretty good. At least the $49 nights aren't bad. Even the Friday and Saturday night prices aren't bad for a Strip hotel in summer. I've seen them way over $200 a night.

Anyway, if you stayed on the Strip I think you'd be ok with meeting up with everyone. Amy, Jane and I are all local, so we'll be driving to meet up. One of us can pick you up, or you can take a taxi.

Actually when I had friends visit before, we'd pick a main meeting point, usually a hotel. I'd park there, and then take taxis or the monorail with them during the day. There are lots of ways to make it work. :)

Hmmmmmm, sounds good. I think a number of the activities were going to be at the MGM, right? I checked the specials and it's good (a little bit more) for the bungalow suites (whatever the heck that means). Has anyone ever stayed here?

I was able to get the Grand Tower Room for the $49 rate with a King bed.

Here is the description:
Larger than the average Las Vegas room, the 446 square foot deluxe rooms at the MGM Grand are decorated in classic motifs offering the finest in elegance and comfort. Each room features either a single king bed or 2 queen sized beds, and is accessorized with a custom black and white marble bathroom, luxurious cotton towels and spacious closets, remote control television, hair dryer, safe and an alarm clock. All rooms feature wireless high-speed internet access.

You can see a layout of the room and pics of it here: https://reservations.mgmmirage.com/bookingengine.aspx?host=promo&pid=001&code=MKT242
Just click on view available dates and I picked June 21 thru 24.

I've never stayed there, but it's one of the kids favorite places because of the Lion Habitat. So we park there, see the lions and then walk down a bit to M&M World.

I checked and the bungalow suites just seem to be bigger. So for $10 more per night, I guess it's up to you how much room you want/need.

I forgot there is also a Rainforest Cafe in MGM. We didn't really have any plans there specifically, BUT we are going to Dick's and Thunder From Down Under which is right across the street (diagonally) at Excalibur, so you'd be right there for that.
And it's directly across from New York New York, where Stacie wanted to eat one day.
And MGM is a stop on the monorail so that's a bonus there too, if we use that at all.

It's not really centrally located on the Strip, it's more down on the end, but not as bad as Mandalay Bay for example. And it's a nice place. Not trashy like Hooter's Hotel and Casino, or the Riviera, or one of those places.

Here is a map of the Strip so you can kind of see where it is:

Vegas.com is a great website for learning more about Vegas. It can all be a bit overwhelming, but it helps a little bit. lol

That sounds great to me!! It is a bit overwhelming because I've never been, but I seem to be on a roll this year ;) Do you happen to know if the hotel has an airport shuttle? I cannot find that info on the website - or around how much taxi fare to/from the airport is??

EDIT - Oooh, just checked on the link you provided and there is shuttle service (for a fee), so that's great!

I'm hoping someone offers to pick me up from the airport (hint, hint). I have no idea on time yet, do you?

I was just thinking, you are a wild woman now!! First Disney solo and now Vegas!!:banana::banana: Soon, you'll be jetting off to Paris. Oh, wait you can go to Paris while you are here. ;) Or at least our version of it. haha

Here is the shuttle info, that you probably already read:
Shuttle transportation (one-way and round-trip) is available for a fee at the MGM check-in desk located near carousel one in the main baggage claim at McCarran International Airport. The MGM check-in desk handles check-in and shuttle arrangements for guests of the MGM Grand. Shuttle transportation can be billed to your hotel room. The check-in desk is open daily, 9 a.m. - 11 p.m.

I like that they have a check in at the airport. That's nice and handy so you are all set when you arrive. The shuttle is $15.50 round trip. A taxi will run you between $14-$16 one way. So a shuttle is obviously a better way to go. They run every 30 minutes and you just sign up for it at the airport.

:scared1: Have you seen the airport and how insane it is??? :scared1:

:rotfl:

Seriously though, it's a madhouse with all the taxis. I always let Ruben go when ever my mom comes into town. :rolleyes1

But once you get your flight info, let me know and I'll see what I can do. :) I can't remember who all is arriving on Sunday, but if you and Theresa will be here then if nothing else, the three of us can go out. And maybe Amy or Jane will join us. :dance3:
