Unexpected upcoming trip booked without the usual extensive research :-)

Now I see OKW is undergoing a massive refurbishment. We will be there in the in late April.

Has anyone seen a schedule? Do we know what the rooms are going to look like? I would like to try to be away from and disruptive construction.

Also, I would like to enjoy the rooms as they are and not the new sterile chain motel look that's making its way around WDW.

Noting is happening until summer. You should be fine. From the member's Web site:

Know Before You Go
Please pardon our pixie dust! In an ongoing effort to improve the quality of facilities and offerings, some offerings at Disney's Old Key West are being refreshed. Explore details below.

Pool Closure in Early 2017
The Sandcastle Pool at Disney's Old Key West Resort will be closed for refurbishment from early January 2017 through the end of February 2017. The leisure pools located at Old Turtle Pond, South Point and Miller's Road will remain available for your enjoyment. Please check back here for updates.

Upcoming Refurbishments
Additional Resort refurbishments will begin in summer 2017. While we are working on our magic, it is possible that you will see and hear construction taking place around the Resort. We will attempt to limit any work most likely to cause a noise impact to the hours of 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. This refurbishment is expected to be completed in 2019. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

I don't know of any schedule, but I just left OKW yesterday, and building 11 (and probably 12 also, can't recall for sure) were fenced off for construction.
Also, as mentioned, the main pool was closed for refurbishment.
And the tennis court in the Turtle Pond area was being refurbished.

I read it somewhere - rooms at OKW under construction beginning Spring 2017.

that is he best thing about the way the villas are constructed. They basically just redo them one building at a time. No intrusion as far as working on the floor above you or below you.

At OKW all the refurbs I've seen done they block off an entire building. It shouldn't be intrusive any further than perhaps there will be some construction materials in a few spots in the parking area shared with other buildings.

We've logged many trips at OKW since becoming DVC members in 1995. I have certain favorite buildings/areas/pools etc... depending on who is accompanying us.

We will be staying the 1st week in Oct. and would love a Refurbished room.
I wish there was a thread for those who recently stayed there could post which buildings were blocked off while they were there.

Well, since the refurb hasn't started yet, no villas have been redone. Any buildings that may be closed off now aren't for the refurb. May be for painting or other routine work, but not the refurb. According to DVC is won't start until summer at the earliest.

Well maybe those who stay in the summer can report back on Refurbish. Seems Weird that they would close off 2 whole buildings for just routine work.

No really weird at all. The buildings are constantly being repainted. They go through the entire resort and when finished, they start over. Maybe new windows, new roof, etc. You never know. You can bet though, that once the refurb starts everyone here will know about it.

While there this past December a cast member from maintenance told us that bldg 11 was being used as a model for the refurb for cast members to observe/learn from.

Building 11 has had the new design installed last Sept in 1 of the 2 BR units. After feed back from those of us that toured the 'mock up', they are re-doing the plans for in the interior of the units. Now they are working on possible changes to the outside of building 11 and 12.

This is no longer on the DVC website when booking. Has this refurb been postponed?

Thanks!

You're right - there is nothing on the DVC member's site, nor is there anything on DisneyWorld.com. It's like it never existed at all. Very strange.
