OK ladies, lets talk bras, anyone else hate underwire?

On bra care--I do know that you are supposed to wash them gently and NOT dry them in the dryer.

That is what contributes to some of this poking and snapping. (not necessarily the only cause--but a contributing factor).

The bra will last longer (fully intact without a renegade wire) if they are laundered and dried properly.

(learned this someowhere once..I just didn't know!)

Yeah, well I went to a fitting. Know what they told me? We don't carry your size! :rotfl2:

Oh, no! When I was nursing my first baby my girls were so big. I made some Dolly Parton joke and my sister told me that's what I looked like. :lmao: I was shocked because I used to barely be an A. I had to struggle to find nursing bras that were big enough. That was quite a change. :rotfl:

I like to use the hangers for pants/skirts to hang my girl-holders to dry. It does help extend their life, but I guess we all have an expiration date!

I just wish it was a little more economical. :guilty:

For you other DDD-er's out there, Kohls does carry a few.

As a proud member of itty bitty committee, I have developped a hatred of Victoria's Secret. (Last time I got measured: the girl actually said "sweetie are you sure you need a real bra?) I've found they never fit me right. (I'm currently partial to Calvin Klein) I'm a 32/34 A, so I can definitely get by without underwire; however, my main complaint with it (and lots of bras in general) is the way they look under blouses.

I haven't found a good bra yet, underwire or no underwire. I've tried so many different types, brands, fittings---at this point, I'd rather run free if I could get away with it. :rotfl:

LOL, I did run free in the 70's

I'm afraid I'd hear something similar if I ever went for a fitting... have not been brave enough to do that yet.

I try to bra shop with one of my teenage DD's that way the sales people leave me alone while I'm looking at the nearly B rack (although that size would be for me) my DD's wear normal size bra's. Go figure.

NO underwire for me if you hadn't guessed.
Although I have actually seen wires in nearly A and nearly B bras.
umm... why?

No underwires for me, and it does amaze me how hard that is to find in an A!

I love me wires...

Lift and seperate....just what they need!

I'm lucky I can just buy my size off the shelf ($5 at the outlet) and they fit. I don't know what I'd do without a wire..the other kind make me look like I have torpedoes.

I'm the opposite. It HAS to be underwire for me or I feel all out of whack!

Not to hijack your thread, but does anyone have a suggestion for a strapless push up bra for someone with a larger chest? I will be in a wedding in Nov. and while I hope they are a bit smaller by then (working on it!), the girls are still going to be needing some major support. So short of using duct tape, I'm not sure where to look for a really good one.

Penny's has the best selection for strapless - had to order mine though 'cause they didn't carry it in store - through the catalog - but check online to see if there's a good selection there if not the catalog has EVERYTHING & TONS of sizes that you can't find everywhere...

I need and love the underwire bras!!! I have bra's without them and I feel so ugh!!! I'm one of those whoe wants it lifted, separated and with cleve!!

I too have to have underwire - I don't like ANY bra & don't wear them at home @ all - just when going out ( &I'm a sahm so some days not at all! )

I MUST have underwire 'cause if I try any others the fabric just folds over on itself with my flab (I'm plus sized) so then I've just got a band of materail wadded up doing nothing. :confused3 I'm guessing that's 'cause I'm fat not the bra but I dunno.

I love he who invented underwired bras!! (and I know it was a he)

I cant wear underwires. My girls are just to heavy. They make the wire dig into my ribs. Hurts more then you can imagine! (unless of course you have the same problem).

Last Thursday my friend and I went to a study/ focus group. It was held by Just my size. They picked us to be part of their special group of ambassadors. We'll get to help with new products. My goal will be to get them to make more DDD with out underwires, and get more DDD in the stores. I hate having to order them and pay shipping.

I hate underwires, I hate bras. I love the summer and hot weather because I love wearing halter tops and I don't need to wear a bra with them. :cool1:

I've had three kids the first one nursed long enough to do gymnastics while nursing, the second one not as much, and the third one was a wiggler who liked to yank and pull away. Without underwire the girls are scraping the knees and that's something no one needs to see!! Including me! I have my daily wear underwire bras and then my sleeping underwires, the only time the girls get free time are in the pool/shower and on special occasions. :rotfl:

I hate underwires, but need them so I dutifully & painfully suffer through--hey, kinda like the cilice the mad monk sadistically wore strapped to his thigh in The DaVinci Code :rotfl:
Maybe underwires can be looked upon as some sort of pennance? :teeth:

When needing to sew a period correct corset (I work in an historical house museum), I had to check out different types of corset boning & came across underwires, too.

I think the modern basic design for underwire is just plain stupid. It could be done much better.
Other than fabricating from different materials, the modern underwire has changed very little. The shape of the underwire needs to be modified and the method & type of encasing needs at least some thought

I have a lot of bra witches--typographical error here ;)
ie: the strap under the arm should not be skimpy. Elastic needs to be sturdy yet given some style~

My gals have 'presence' & I have yet to see the party pack that can do them justice & still look pretty!

Oh, a period corset looks & feels fairly decent.
We are in the 1815-1820 period, so no extreme Victorian stuff to deal with

Jean

I hate bras myself, but , lets be honest they are a necessity, you can't leave home without it!! Unless you realize it too late, then, boy do you regret it, you have to pretend like your arms are wrapped around you because you are cold, even if it's 100 degrees.
