OK ladies, lets talk bras, anyone else hate underwire?

Unwire bras were designed by men.
To torture women.
Don't ya know.
:lmao:
It's true I say.

Anyone ever have their underwire snap in half? I mean, seriously, I've had that happen about a dozen or so times. Directly under the breast, it snaps in 2 (but doesn't come out of the fabric).

And can it ever happen at home when I can just grab another bra to put on? Noooooo, it always has to happen at work...or a theme park! :lmao:

Underwire is awesome!! :worship: Never found a good bra without it, but I am also on the larger side in that dept.

Doesn't actually bother me.

What I don't like is padding. I have plenty of my own thank you very much.

I don't know why they thin that those of us who need a lift require the extra pad.

I'm a big fan of underwire. That is, UNTIL they poke through the fabric and gouge me all day. That really chaps my hide. :furious:

I would think your hid would be safe from the attack. :teeth:

Unless there is something you'd like to tell us.. :listen:

How large are you looking for? I'm a 32DDD who buys 34DD because they are the closest fit I can find in person... I have some 34DD that fit well, but nothing in that size is a "push up".

38DD-DDD, depends on the bra. I usually go up to a 40D-DD because it's just easier to find a 40D vs a 38DD or a 40DD vs a 38DDD sometimes. But the 38 band generally fits better.

I don't mind underwires. The only thing I hate is when I 'spring a wire.' There's nothing more embarrassing than walking around the office talking to people and then realize I've got a plastic wire sticking 4 inches out of my sweater! This has happened to me more than once. I've had pretty good luck with the Body by Victoria bras, but I've still sprung a few of those wires too.

Hate underwire. Hate, hate, hate it. Have I mentioned how I hate it?

Kohl's had this one on sale a couple of months ago and I stocked up on them. I'm a 36DD and this one gives me all the support I need.

YES! Who on earth thinks that a DD/DDD needs padding? I will never understand that!

I went shopping just last week for bras, and I tried underwire bras AGAIN. And I still can't figure out what the underwire is for :confused3. I think if someone is small enough (like me), the underwire is worse than useless. If I raise my arms, the bra goes with them, if you know what I mean :lmao:.

What does the underwire do, actually, for larger women? I'm serious. How does it function?

In a nutshell, underwire = holding them puppies up. However, I googled to get a good explanation:

Underwires provide support for the bust. Like a suspension bridge, the underwires provide a foundation for the sling-like cup. In order to function properly, the underwire needs to lie against your chest wall. If your underwires are on your bust-mound, rather than agaist your ribs, try a larger cup size. Also, look for a high spandex content in the bra band for the best strength, durability and comfort.

I tried googling a real explanation for you--but that didn't work.

For me it is a proper shelf for the ladies. Prevents them from trying to peek underneath. I'm not really that large--a 36C...but I do feel huge. If I didn't have underwire--the dimensions of the freakin' band underneath would have to be huge--and I"d feel like those 1950s movies where the girls are wearing the BIG BIG bras--but they aren't big.

I believe they also prevent sag since it is a hard non-flexible structure unlike elastic or whatever it is they make the edges out of.

So for me--I need a full coverage bra that doesn't look full coverage if you KWIM.

Probably not the real explanation of underwire. Just my experience with and without it.

See I am with you on that. I am not very small or well endowed, pretty average(36C) but still it does the same thing. Uncomfortable.

So it appears it is either a hate it, or need it thing. I am not alone in the hating, but there are a number who can't live with out them. :)

LadyyRedd, the same thing used to happen to my best friend. She ended up getting reduction surgery. Doesn't happen any more.

Me neither, and I'm not big. Mainly I don't like it because the padding just acts like insulation and makes me sweat. And I don't care a bit about looking bigger than I am.

I think of an underwire bra like a spring sticking out of a mattress!!! I don't like them. I used be a 34 B after three kids, I'm now a 34 LONG!!

I think I understand what your trying to say...I think the underwire is for smaller to medium sized women. (depending on how you define those) But I also think it's for a sexy out fit. OR, because you can't wear it too long, it's maybe.....foreplay??!!! :teeth:

Thanks for the explanation, MrsNick. I still don't really understand the physics of the underwire, but at least now I have an idea where the underwire is supposed to go on the chest. I definitely won't be needing an underwire bra, though.

Why oh why does google never work for me????

thanks for finding something.

I got bra ad links only. :confused3

LOL, first I tried the 'feeling lucky' button on the search, which gave me nothin' but ads. Then did the real search, and sifted through a bunch more ads. Modified the search a little and then got ads mixed with more medical type sites. I just clicked on a couple and plain lucked out that I clicked on one with an explanation.

I had heart surgery as a child and my scar runs under my breast, so if I wear an underwire, it chafes and rubs against the scar.

So no undewires for me!

Ahh, not needing an underwire bra is a GOOD THING :rotfl:
