Official Wine and Dine 2016 thread

Training plans start today! I got in 40 minutes/3.83 miles on the treadmill this afternoon. :cool1: I'm hoping to be better with sticking to the plan this year than I was last year. I now know I can finish a half marathon even when I was undertrained, which I did in June, but I know it's not a smart idea to do again and need to be more prepared for Wine and Dine, especially with doing the 10K too.

One of my other goals with training is to gradually work in more runs outside even when it's hot or humid. I need to get over my wimpiness and start getting more used to warmer temps. I survived the humidity of Wine and Dine last year, but with it now not being a night race, the sun will be a factor too, especially during the half. The half I did in June was on one of the hottest days we've had so far this summer (of course), and it was brutal near the end.

Has anyone heard any dates for this in 2017? We are trying to decide if an AP is worth it for next year. Thanks!
My first guess for next year would be November 2-5. But I wouldn't rule out the 9-12, since you never know. It should probably be officially announced sometime in the fall.

Look for Wine and Dine to be the first weekend in November since the Super Heroes Half is the second weekend.

I'm right there with you! My treadmill has been my best friend so far, but I know that I'm dragging my feet (literally!) to get in some outside runs. It was 105 degrees in our little part of Georgia yesterday, so those outside runs may need to wait until September lol.

Just noticed on rundisney the Wine & Dine is Presented by Misfit. Was Misfit always listed or is it new? I don't even know what it is so looked it up, an activity tracker I guess. Just thought it was interesting to share as I didn't think it had a main sponsor before.

Now I know when we start it will probably be a bit nippy, but I'm just thinking about nearer the end when the sun is up, and it will be for me as I'm in the last corral and my current times I'm looking to do the race in about 2.30, so how hot do we think it will get. :sunny:
Early Nov is basically still summer here in central FL. IF a cold front happens to blow through, start temps could drop to the 50s, but 60s or 70s are more realistic. The overnight low last year was just under 80. The sun is still pretty strong that time of year, so with no cloud cover it could warm up quickly - say high 70s to low 80s being most likely.

How's everyone's training going or getting started? Just about 4 months to go!
Still in summer mode here, just trying to maintain base mileage without succumbing to heat stroke!

I think that is a new thing.

So cant wait, this is one of the last couple of run disney events I havent done yet...

the week before wine and dine, I'm flying from San Francisco to Washington DC for the marine corps marathon, and week or so later start the lumierre's challenge...super excited!

Up and ready to go for a 5k. Might rain, but since the run is mostly inside at the Mariner's baseball stadium, I can't complain :) Just for fun, not for time and to get my first long training run in.

How doesn't work inside ☺ my watch says I ran 2.39 instead of 3.2.

I did my 3 miles as per the training plan this morning. But man, was it tough! After about a mile and a half I was so over it and I wanted to quit so bad. I waited too long to go this morning and even though it's not hot or humid, the sun was killing me. I don't know how everyone down south or in warmer climates does it. But the good news is that I got it done!!

The 10k plan starts Tuesday (unless I transcribed wrong and lost a week) any my option is either get up in the early am when it's ONLY around 75 but feels like 80 or do my work on the treadmill for the moment

Didn't realize that raining plans had started so recently! Luckily I've been able to get my base of a 5k pretty solid, but the summer humidity and heat (and working outside in general) is killing me. I'm not sure how I am going to be able to increase my mileage right now. Luckily I got 7 miles in before the heat set in... I'm missing those mornings though!

Warning: vent ahead...

So I ran a 10k yesterday for my POT. Using the McMillan calculator I was aiming for a sub 1:14 finish to get under a projected half time of 2:45. Well I ended up with a time of 1:16:40. At first I was happy I at least got a PR but was a little bummed I missed my goal time by so little. But then I found out that I could have very easily gotten under a 1:14 time because the course didn't have a MARKED START LINE!
Apparently they just started all of the chips remotely when they said "go" and simply herded us in a general direction toward the course. I realize that some races do this kind of start but a few problems with this one. 1- they did not inform of us of this, so the whole gaggle of us started walking toward where we though the start line would be around the corner and after almost a quarter of a mile is when we realized there is no actual start line.
2- they had the 5k and 10k runs starting at the same time! Again, wouldn't have been a problem if I had known and could have been more toward the front of the group and ahead of most of the 5k-ers. Instead I ended up near the back during the start, with about 300 or so 5k walkers.

There's nothing I can do about it now, but it just bothers me so much that I know I could have gotten a better time if I had just known this was how they started the race.
Ok, vent over I suppose...:sad::sad1:

Totally vent worthy. It's annoying to spend any amount of money and then have it unorganized nor bad\no info.

The 5k I ran yesterday was the best done of my limited 5 or 6 organized races. Granted it was in and around the baseball stadium so they had to get it right or it would have been a disaster. Also my fab shirt. The back has the stadium with the roof open and shows people running in and around it.

On the flip side I got my 5k pr in a poorly done race because I didn't want to get run over by those faster than me that hadn't paid the extra 5 for chip timing. And it was a poorly lit lantern run 3\4 of which was on narrow dirt trails. Nothing like cutting 6 min off your time ☺ we learned to better research our runs before signing up.
