Disney Stores Coming Back??

These two locations seem odd to me.
I still think Disney has loss their business mind but they have the money to try and fail .

Not big markets. Although THE PITT er staff may need some Disney stuff.
NJ send the most people to Disney outside of Florida (pre pandemic can’t comment on post), and Pittsburgh is a good sized Great Lakes city that has good consumption of branded logos on merchandise. Disney has the sales $$ by a person’s state except for cash buyers offline not getting a discount.

Would love for the Pittsburgh one to be true! It's a shame that the traffic on McKnight Road is always such a nightmare!

What I think Disney is gonna do with these pop-up stores is make them holiday toy stores similar to what Toys "R" Us did in 2010 with the failed Toys "R" Us Express pop-up stores in malls and as we saw with Toys "R" Us Express the idea was a smart concept but failed and that's why they closed in 2011. But when you put the Disney name on a store you know it will be a smart move. What I also think and I very much agree with everyone that Disney Stores will come back in a format similar to the popular Spirit Halloween Superstore that debuts every October. But whatever happens Disney will have a smart chance to revive their stores because people love buying Disney merchandise

The only ones I've seen that are doing well, are those that are in tourist zones... with a lot of high end retail options. And/Or those locations that have added non-retail elements like parks or small venues. And have added enough security and rules to keep out the urban juveniles that tend to cause issues that kept away actual customers...

Nor far from Everglades Port that DCL uses, is the Sawgrass Mills Mall, which is a thriving mall that did still have a Disney Character Warehouse. When we were there last year - I understand it was set to close this month. We walked though it, but nothing was a "bargain" or interesting enough to buy. Fully understand it closing...

Mall was built right next to an arena, had a couple of hotels on property and a number of upscale resturants in a outdoors areas....

Malls are not dead, but there is a market bifurcation rather than a universal comeback https://www.nytimes.com/2026/03/21/business/dealbook/shopping-mall-resurgence.html#:~:text=The good. There are roughly 900 malls, the bottom 350 make up 10 percent.
One mall near me does extremely well, while the others are dying. It always kept mid-high end. Never had a food court - I think that kept away some of the problems other malls suffer from with juveniles.
