I bought a Wiii last night (several in stock at Best Buy) which will be our DS 8's Christmas present. He has a 2 1/2 year old little sister--any recommendations for games that she can piddle around with? Not expecting her to be able to do much, but at least some place to wander around?

Anything you get for him, she'll be able to play with as much as she can. Mario galaxy would be fun or Animal Crossing. But I wouldn't base any purchasing decisions on her at all.

After reading this thread, I was confident enough to purchase a wii bundle with Mario & Somebody go to the Olympics. I also bought My Sims Kingdom, as it was on ds10's wish list.

I am really hoping that when everything is opened on Christmas morning, we'll be good to go. The bundle had two controllers and nunchuks, the console and stand, and some cable thingies. I guess that's all we need? We have an lcd tv, but I'm assuming that doesn't require anything special?

Just checking to be sure...ds's birthday is in January, so we could make another purchase for that if I've missed the "one thing all 10 yr. olds must have".

We got our Wii in May when DS was 2 1/2. He loves the golf and bowling that came with the Wii. He is actually pretty good at the golf (for 2). We showed him what to do to get the action and since then we've just let him play around to figure things out. He's messed around on Wii Play as well. He likes Mario Kart too. He either plays the collect the coins/balloons, or two person racing with my husband or I. He can now make it around one lap by the time DH/I go the three of the race.

He also loves to mess around with the Mii's and change them. We now have one mii he can change to his hearts content. It's always interesting to see what "Mort" will look like It is pretty amazing what a 2 year old can figure out in just a few months.

The games that DS really likes now are actually GameCube games which the Wii will play. He loves Super Mario Sunshine, Paper Mario & Legend of Zelda: Windwalkers. I played through a good portion of the games so he can get most places, but again it's amazing what he has figured out how to do.

GameCube games can be picked up used relatively inexpensively, however you do need to get a GameCube memory card, and game controller. I got the memory card at a GameStop (where you can also get used games) and then the game controller I found an off-brand wireless one at Walmart which has been great. (As a side note: I think the old style controller is easier for him to use. He seems more comfortable with it in terms of moving a guy around the screen.)

None of these games were bought for DS, but he has enjoyed them. These are all pretty much classic games which your DS8 would be able to play and you DD could have fun with.

Finally, we have Guitar Hero for DH. DS loves to "play along" on his toy guitar. We heard a guitar hero song the other day in a restuarant, and my DS recognized it. However, it was a slightly different version, and DS said "Its the Barracuda song, but it's not right."

Sounds like you have everything you need and enough to keep him busy for a while. There is some info about getting the system going out of the box in the FAQ post. Basically its very easy and user friendly, but if you have the opportunity, I would do a test run before Christmas to make sure everything is in working order and you understand it all. Maybe DS will have a sleepover somewhere else before Christmas?

It's not necessary, but I like to be prepared.

Should be able to as long as your walmart is still open at midnight. Ours always puts the games out at midnight.

It was supposedly confirmed that you could use the guitars interchangeably, but we haven't heard about the drum kits as far as I know. I don't know anyone that has both of them for the Wii, so I can't tell you for sure.

I think the only reason you like RB1 better is that you like the track list better (which isn't a problem for us since on our 360 i saved all the tracks from rb1)

To answer the question RB2 is FAR superior to Rb1...it plays better, it has better features (the drum trainer, Challanges to name a few) and I actually do agree that the track list form Rb1 is far superior, but the track list on Rb 2 is far from crappy.

for those playign this game on the wii, you are probably better buying Rb1 right now as the price has dropped (or will) down to $139.99....a great deal.

for those with a 360 or ps3...buy 2 and then rent 1 and transport all the tracks to your harddrive.

Actually, Amazon has RB1 for $99.99 (no tax or shipping)....so I should probably buy RB1 and I could then buy RB2 game only for $49.99 and I'd have both track lists, right??

Is the hardware (guitar, drum kit) the same for both versions? If so, I think the above scenario makes sense for me!!!

Ok, I am answering part of my own question....it seems as though the cymbal attachments that you can purchase for the drum kit will only fit the RB2 drum kit.

I am most interested in playing the drums, so perhaps I would want to add the cymbal attachment at some point

Does anybody on here actually own WiiMusic or are we just basing our opinions on the horrible reviews?

I ask because DS13 rented this today(free coupon) and has been playing it pretty much nonstop since 4pm. DH has been in there playing with him for over an hour.

It looks kinda boring to me but the 2 of them are having a great old time playing. He even told me to add it to his Christmas list. I said lets see what you think of it by the end of your weeks rental.

Anyway, point of the story, it's not as horrible as it's been made out to be.

Animal Crossing: City Folk is out today. I lucked out and found it for sale on Friday, so I've been playing it a bit since then.

It is very similar to the DS and Gamecube versions but there are a few changes and it seems like it will be good. I had posted before that there were reports that it would not have motion controls, but it does have some after all. You cast the fishing rod by swinging the remote down and reel it in by swinging it up. You swing the net by swinging the remote. I don't have the other tools yet so I'm not sure about them.

There is one change I think is bad . . . On the Gamecube version you could have a town for each memory card you were willing to buy, so everyone in my household had their own town. Even on the DS version each of us had our own town because we each owned a copy of the game. On the Wii version we have to share a town because there is no way to save more than one town on the same Wii. You can not save to a memory card, either. (Though you can take pictures in-game and save those to an SD card.)
I think it will work well for us because we've all agreed to some ground rules for our town, but it could get frustrating if two people had to share who didn't work well together.

Up to four people can play the game on one Wii, but only one can play at a time. Though if you have Wifi you can visit friends' towns or invite them to your town, and over Wifi up to four players (from different towns, on different Wiis) can be in the same town at once.

If anyone has any questions about the game I'll be happy to try to answer them. By the way, if anyone else is playing and needs fruit. . . we have pears in my town and should have peaches later today.
