Official Wii/DS Q/A thread. FAQ in first post! Game reviews in second post!

I'm thinking of Disney: Think Fast. Who has played it? No little little ones here, will we be bored? Keep inmind I am a huge Disney junkie and we all enjoy playing things like the Magic Kingdom board game, even now that my kids are 11 & 14

There was a big thread on this game yesterday...maybe on the community board? The couple people that had it said they LOVED it, that its more than just trivia--there are other games to play too. Sounded really cool. Maybe do a search to find the thread? I swear it was the Community board.

Yes, he's played all the paper marios(gamecube and wii)...those are the types of games he likes.

He's not expressed any interest in SWFU and is not particularly a SW fan. He loved the AC game for the gamecube and played it on and off for many many months although not in a while. He's said he wants that game. The only reason I was thinking of the mysims game is that a friend of his has one of the mysims for the wii and says it's really good. I'll skip the sims though because if I make a choice between the 2, AC wins.

As far as line rider, I actually think you're all wrong about that, I think he'll definitely get $20 worth of play out of it even if it's just like the free computer version. He likes making course and things like that...spends a lot of time on SSB making his own levels...and it sounds like line rider would be right up his alley and it's a bargain for $20. I guess I was just wondering if anybody had it and can say if it's any good, you know, is it hard to control or is it actually lame or anything. I'm pretty sure he'll like the basic premise as long as the game functions properly.

Anyway, thanks for the feedback....any comments on DeBlob?

Sorry! I kinda glossed over the Line rider discussion as I have no idea what it is, but I can tell you I downloaded Dr. Mario on my Wii even though I have it for my gameboy. I don't see any reason not to pick it up at that price.

DeBlob has gotten a lot of positive reviews from the press and I know someone on the thread told us they really liked it.

And I think we cautioned against Sims and AC based solely on your post. We were thinking of games that most 13yo might enjoy. You mentioned AC, but we had no idea he really enjoyed the last one.

So now that I know more...maybe get him a gamefly membership? Go ahead and buy the new AC, but with the Gamefly membership, he can try lots of games including DaBlob and the new Sims (which DH and I want and would get if we hadn't spent $200 during the TRU deal:eek: )

Since he likes Paper Mario--how about Final Fantasy? The Wii ones aren't my favorite, but they have certain Zelda/Paper Mario-type elements.

(If you get that PS2 I have a TON of recommendations for games that I think he might enjoy!)

We have 4 players, so we needed 4 controls. The Genie is the Host. You pick your character -Mickey, Minie, Daisey, Donald, Goofy (Might be others to start) and then you unlock more - We have unlocked Clarabelle so far. When you win a game, you get to unlock a special piece of an outfit that is based on the section you play in. DH unlocked a dalmation hat for Goofy, I unlocked sunglasses for Minnie, DD unlocked a crown for Daisy.

There are different sections you can play in - The ones I remember are Lion King, 101 Dalmations, Hawaii for Stitch, little mermaid under the sea and there are others I can't remember.

You can pick a long game, short game or medium length game. You can also create a custom game.

THe games vary each time you play it and I think its probably random. You play several rounds. The points get larger as the rounds go on and sometimes at the end you get to pick who you take points from - at like 500 a question, this can change the game dramatically.

There are lots of cools games. Some are trivia, but there are tons that aren't. One we had to shoot things into buckets. One you have these cards (think the walking cards from Alice in Wonderland) that you have to pick the highest or lowest card and push the arrow on your controller the fastest- That is hard because your brain is doing many things.

Again - I can't say enough how fun it is - I highly reccommend it for yourself as well as the kids.

Thank You!! I spent the last 30 minutes trying to search every way I could think of! lol

Oh thanks for the good feedback on that Think Fast game. We picked it up at TRU the other night but haven't got a chance to play it yet.

Hi - I've been lurking around this post, and I have a question. Somebody mentioned Gamefly. Is this the only on-line gaming rental place to rent Wii games or is there somewhere better? I was thinking a game rental membership might be perfect for my son for Christmas.

I always use google to search the DIS. Just type in what I'm lookinng for and DIS after it. Works the best. This time I googled "Disney Think Fast DIS" The DIS Search is:headache:

I know it's definitely the best. A couple people we know have memberships and they love it.

We buy all of our games, but the plan is to get a membership when we have kids. It just makes so much sense to rent a game for a month or whatever and be able to get a new one when the kids (or me) get sick of it or beat it. We own a lot of games and I bet the vast majority of them I used for a month or less before never touching them again.

Dude!!! I never thought to do that!! You are so smart!!! :worship:

Thanks! So, I'm picking up AC and line rider, I'll have grandma get the Kirby DS game and I've already got GH. Guess that's enough video game stuff and I'll talk to DH and see what he thinks about the gamefly thing....anybody know what that costs? We've never looked into it. We already do blockbuster online so I'm not sure I want to do this too but I'll check it out as he'd probably really like it.(No PS2 here by the way, we're a nintendo family....gameboy color, gameboy advance, DS, DSlite, Gamecube, Wii)

Thinking of this not for my family but I have a niece and a friend with a younger child that may like this. Any ideas on appropriate ages for this one? Also, can you play one player or is it only a group thing? Off to read the other thread.

I confused you with someone else!! lol No wonder I didn't give good recommendations. Check out that link in my previous post. It lists the pricing options for the different services.

OK, after talking to DS13 last night, now I need some more reviews. He thinks he might be interested in:
Nerf N-strike
DaBlob
Thrillville off the rails

Can anybody give me the rundown on these?

Nerf N-strike===== looks like fun to me especially since it can be used to actually shoot nerf darts too!!!(and I'm 28!)

Dablob=======I've only heard good and fun stuff about this game. never played it but heard no bad.

Thrillville=====not a very good game, but if you liked the old thrillvilles back int he ps2 days you'll probably like it.

Does anyone know why Super Smash Bros. Brawl is rated TEEN?

Thanks

Thats an easy one...
Cartoon Violence, Crude Humor

(it's a beat 'em up game and has some crude humor (Fart joke--which is not cude it's just boy humor btw)((wario does it))

any time you guys have rating questions just go to www.esrb.org
it's the company that regulates videogames and you can search any game and it will tell you why it's rated a certain way.

HI
Can anyone tell me if you can use this game (Shaun White Snowboarding) without having a Wii fit?

Thanks!

Can I get advice on the DS's version of Guitar Hero? DD has asked for it for Christmas.

Yes, according to the reports it will be fully playable with just a wiimote and nunchuck.

Can I get advice on the DS's version of Guitar Hero? DD has asked for it for Christmas.

Have it...it's very well done...just like playing Guitar Hero on any other system. There are only like 25 songs so the selection is smaller then the wii version, but it's a great game on the go. I highly recommend it to all Gh fans.

Ds 8 LOVES Aerosmith and wants Aerosmith GH for Wii for chrimbo but Ive heard its not as good as regular GH.
He has this for DS and enjoys it.

Im swaying toward Aerosmith because he will know more songs.
Any advice please.....

Also any game recommendations for a 4-5yrs girl.

Thank youse.

My DD(5) loves the Disney Princess game, Go Diego Go: Safari Rescue and Carnival Games best.

She's getting Dora the Explorer: Snow Princess, Go Diego Go: Great Dinosaur Rescue and the Littlest Pet Shop games for her birthday and Christmas in the next month, so hopefully those turn out to be good games also.
