Official WDW Marathon Weekend 2013 Thread-Part 2

We are going to try and do 10 miles today and if I can manage boost back up to a 1.5 min run/2.0 min walk. I'd love to be able to manage at least a 2 min run/1 min walk by race day if I can get my stamina back up to that point. It's a gorgeous day here today with bright sunshine and highs right at 60 degrees. If all goes well I'm hoping to manage 15-18 next weekend and then taper. I got my appointment scheduled with the oncologist for December 26, so hoping since that's so close to race day, he won't have any concerns about delaying treatment until after we return.

You can do it Zelly!!!

Way to go Zelly!

Got in my runs this weekend. Did 24k/10k. Not unhappy with my times but I did take it pretty easy. Sore and achy but DONE.

No run for me this weekend. Day 5 of the flu. Feeling better overall, but still so fatigued! Went to urgent care yesterday and was told I'm almost over it so no need for meds. Blah! So bummed-it's beautiful out today, and will probably be awful next weekend when I have to do 12.
Ok, whine over, thanks for listening. :)

I think they would be impressed :)

Geez! Once again, a volunteer or scofflaw has pocketed several medals on race morning and is trying to market them on EBay. II helped nab one from the 2011 Princess Half. In that case, the lady was selling 10 or 20 medals all at once the week following the race. It was so easy to spot. Now this seller is selling numerous relay and a couple full medals with the cellophane still on the medal I am writing runDisney once again and pointing out the seller. They have removed their city from their profile so I cannot be as sure as I was with the Princess medals, but it is clear that these are out of the big box.

I wrote the seller and I am hoping like last time, the seller will pull them all as soon as they figure out that a buyer has figured out the game. If they would not get greedy and just sell one at a time, no one would ever spot them.

Maybe Disney can assign a security person to the rack as they hand the medals

ADDED

Wow, I was grabbing the auction numbers and in addition to the 8 currently on auction, this seller recently sold 45 2012 medals.

I think this was pulled coach....I tried to find the listing and I could not....hopefully runDisney will address this for the future.

Dang...

Delayed enough today. Hoping that the rain would just slide by... now we have a little lightning in the area. 3 hours on the treadmill... here we come

Good luck with that! I have done 15 on the TM before. My method for maintaining sanity was to use my training fuel stop of 5 miles to stop and switch treadmills. It did actually help to chunk it out.

Zelly You are an inspiration. Good luck with the rest of your training.

Momto2PrncChrmgs Take it easy with your runs. Hope you feel better soon.

I did 12 today. It was okay. Mentally, I vacillated between awful and almost perky. Probably because I just don't seem to be regaining any speed. I know where my head needs to be, just need to find a way to get it there. I did have one smile when a guy pulled up next to me in his flashy Audi and asked/encouraged me on my run. "Only 12 today", I told him (not at all smugly)

It's still there. Hopefully runDisney can figure out who this is.

Momto2Prncchrmgs, I was in the same boat as you with the flu! I just got back to where I should be for my mileage after a toe injury (training for the 1/2), and then I got the respiratory flu last week. Terrible timing. I did make it through my 10 miler today, but only with lots of encouragement from my buddies, and walking whenever I needed to. I figure, if I can do that, I can do anything! Now it is time to rest and write out Christmas cards.:)

I lucked out - when i got to my doctor on the cold/flu thing going around, they gave me a zpack anyways, in case i needed it. I ended up just popping them down since I have to take a week off already and missed my first 20 miler :/ just got over mine a couple days ago. Be wary - the first day back is a doozy (took my 5 mile run ~55 mins with a full out several minute stop versus ~40). Recovered fine as the next day i was back to speed.

Did a 20 miler today though, 3:08. little slower than i wanted, but i'll take it. I'll tell you what though...walking right now just plain isn't fun.

Thanks, everyone. We finished our 10 mile run with a 12:46 average pace. I'll take it. :) The first half or so was kinda tough going but then I got in the groove a bit better and managed to finish it out feeling pretty good. Hope everybody else has good training runs this weekend!

dsuz28 is the seller from Clermont and they have 8 currently listed on EBay.

I'll post if I receive anything from Disney. It's ironic as my brother and I were watching the unboxing and hanging of marathon medals this year. I stood there telling him about the Princess medals found on EBay and how easy it would be to pocket a 10 pack while dark.

Only ran 2:50 but it was on top of a 2 hour run Friday and Saturday, each. Hopefully next week I will have a dry front and nice temperate weather to plug in a couple great runs.

Ooo. That sucks! I know most people don't enjoy it.....but I like it sometimes. I like to be able to have all of the things I need at arm's reach (gu's, gatorade, water, and bathrooms). Also, if I drop dead or have a heart attack people will know about it instead of finding me in a ditch on the side of the road. Hope it goes well!:thumbsup2

Nah, I doubt it. One morning....years ago....I had to do 16 in the wee hours of the morning and I did it at my local Planet Fitness because they opened at 3:30am. Immediately after, I drove to my mom's and hopped in the car with them for 8 hours to get to Disney. Stiff legs but fun times!:cool1:

In despearate need of help/advice please!!!

I am doing my first marathon and my first Goofy. I have been following Galloway very faithfully until recently where it seems I can't get a break.

I have been able to do all the back to back and the scheduled runs up until the first 20 mile back to back on November 10. I was able to do the 8.5 on Saturday but then on Sunday I bailed at mile 15 because I had bad hip pain. I know what the culprit is so no worries on that.

The second back to back I was supposed to do was December 1. I was going to do the 10 miles and then 20 miles instead of 23. Well again, I was able to do the 10 but then I got sick that night and was not able to do the 20 the next day. Ugh, it's like I something is trying to get me from doing that 20, that all elusive 20 that I am now very much intimidated by!!

So I tried to go for a run on Tuesday this week and was able to get just over 3 miles in and with an average pace of 11:27. I was very winded and tired lung wise, not body wise so I am thinking it is a culprit of the cold. I am finally feeling better and up to par but now I don't know how to finish the rest of the training schedule.

My plan was to do the two shorter runs this week on T&R but instead of doing 4 miles ramp it up to 6-7 and do 10/20-23 this upcoming weekend before Christmas and then do the taper up to marathon weekend. But I have some concerns....

1 - I will be ramping up to too high of mileage after being off for quite a bit and will face injury or something.
2 - How do I get to that 20 miles that I feel now is just out of reach and I just won't feel like I've done enough to get me to marathon weekend.

Help please???!!!! :crutches: :faint:

Wondering if anyone at Planet Fitness would mind me on a treadmill for three hours.

I was told by another girl working out that if I "wanted to run a lot of miles on the treadmill I needed to run faster." There's a 30 minute limit on the ones in my building, which is not really helpful for anything over a 5k, and she was the self appointed enforcer of this policy.

we have an hour limit at 24 hour fitness when I decide to run on their air conditioning. I usually let the machine stop, look around to see if other machines are open then restart.

I have hit hotels with the infamous 20 or 30 minute limit. Again, if someone is waiting (I will yield to them then camp out waiting for their 20 minutes to expire.) I have had to be the limit enforcer at times when the person decided they were above the rules that I just let them on under. My weekday runs are 55 minutes so a 30 minute limit just crushes the meat of the workout.

************

Funny story on a treadmill issue that came up once. I was at a club in the 05:00 timeframe and was the only member in a string of 5-10 machines. About 30 minutes into the run a well perfumed lady with a travel mug full of coffee came up and I could hear her fidgeting and mumbling about something. She then hopped up on the mill next to me and started walking. After about 3-5 minutes I was just about to hop off and move down the line to getaway from the perfume when she cursed and screamed then went off to grab the club manager. I could see she was animated about something then stormed off. I completed my run then asked him what the issue was. He said I was on her machine first of all then she was really upset that I was sweating on her and I was running. He laughed because he could not understand what she was talking about.... I was flinging sweat on a set of speed intervals and she was upset that she was catching some a little spray. What really upset her was when he suggested that she move a couple machines over.

For a a few weeks I would see her and she would u-turn and leave when she spotted me. All I wanted to do was finish my run.

First, do no additional back to back long runs. You have all the knowledge you need to be successful from this point.

I would limit you planned longest run to 20-23 and call it good. Note if the day does not come to you, peddle hard to get 16 as a minimum. Start the long run with an average 60-90 seconds a mile slower than you have run the last attempts. You may be running out of gas. From there just taper as per the plan.

Thank you!!!! :flower3:

How much walking does one do the day of the half marathon afterward and still be rested for the full the next day?

I was planning on doing some light swimming and then possibly some mini golf or a slow stroll around DTD or the Boardwalk.
