** OFFICIAL Survivor: Cook Islands Thread ** ‘Survivor’s’ new racial divide

Yul just thinks and mediates, and yes I think he brought the hat back for a reason, heck it could have just been given to a crew member behind the scenes to be returned to Jonathan, it didn't have to be made a big deal of.

I do think Yul had some ulterior motives in bringing back the hat, but if Jeff had not made a big deal about it the jury might not have even known that Yul was the one to bring it back. He laid it over there before the jury even entered. Jeff is the one who turned it into a big thing. I thought that was bad on Jeff. If during the discussion the hat got brought up then ok...but Jeff furthered the situation. Also no one at camp objected to Yul bringing it back...at least from what we saw.

Survivor: Cook Islands — Finale Shockers Revealed!
by Ileane Rudolph

TVGuide.com - 12.12.06

"Think of Survivor like a letter from a loved one," says Mark Burnett, who created the reality show that's now coming to the end of its 13th season. "You recognize the envelope and the handwriting, but [inside] is a fresh letter." "Fresh" is a good word to describe what's coming up in the finale of CBS' Survivor: Cook Islands. In an exclusive sneak peek, Burnett and host Jeff Probst tell TVGuide.com how they'll upend hallowed traditions on Cook's finale airing Sunday, Dec. 17.
Cooking the Numbers: There will be three finalists (instead of the usual two) at the final tribal council. And with the size of the jury raised to nine (from seven), there's the possibility of a three-way tie in the competition for the $1 million prize. Not to mention a bigger dose of rancor, bile and wacko questions from cast-offs who make up the newly expanded jury.

Final Challenges: The finale begins busting protocol immediately with five players still in the game. Their first challenge, Burnett reveals, "is the hardest puzzle we've ever done, called Compass Rose. " Challenge producer Dan Munday spent two days, "like a mad scientist, cutting pieces of wood," says Probst. " Finally, he showed us exactly how it comes apart and then asked us to put it back together. I quit after 30 minutes." It takes the winner 25 minutes to solve it, Probst reveals, adding that "this final five had the highest IQs of any final five." The final four's last immunity challenge involves balancing on a very small post, one that gets smaller and smaller — 10 feet above the water. "It required balance but also intense concentration and pain tolerance, because it was made of steel and was not comfortable, " Probst explains.

Survivors' Reactions: How does the surviving quartet react to the news that there would be three headed to the final tribal council? "The reaction is mixed," says Probst. "A couple are excited because it gives them an extra shot at the million. But for the other two, there is a sense of dread — they realize the strategy they had been planning won't work. From an audience point of view," says Probst, "the best news is that you have at least two people who are likable and very deserving of winning, and for me, that is a home run. I'll be very satisfied that whoever wins is a good winner."

Live Doin's: The big prize will be awarded in L.A. "The coolest part of the finale is that we're re-creating the tribal-council shipwreck at the CBS studios ," Probst reveals.

The finale changes come at the conclusion of a season marked by new rules and procedures — first and foremost, the racially segregated teams that opened the Cook Islands contest. Despite the loud, early criticism of the tactic, Burnett says he's proud of the season. "What it really showed is that the American public will embrace a diverse cast," he says. "And the number of applications from minorities is now getting larger, because they see they have chance." So who's going to win? We asked Burnett to handicap the seven players still in the game.

Yul: "He has that dangerous combination of being extremely likable and extremely cerebral. He used the immunity idol in a very smart way, and it actually turned the game."

Ozzy: "He's one of the greatest challenge players we've ever had, up there with Terry and Colby. He certainly is a target."

Adam: "There's no question that we've focused on his alliance with Candice, but he's a very strong player. He might be more clever than we think." (Candice, who was booted a couple of weeks ago, was "near genius," says Burnett, but Adam was "her Achilles heel.")

Becky: "She may be playing a clever, silent but deadly game in that she's letting [her ally] Yul take all the heat [while], for much of the show, she has been under the radar."

Parvati: "Parvati's a good athlete and can be a very strong challenge player, and she's not afraid to use her sexuality."

Sundra: "Sundra has offended nobody, and is the kind of person who can go to the end because she's not seen as a threat. And if she gets to the end — everyone likes her."

And the future? Survivor: Fiji — the show's 14th edition, set on the South Pacific island — will likely debut in February. "It has an extremely unique opening episode," Burnett says. "There will be an Exile Island, but it's quite different, and the hidden immunity portion of the game has an interesting twist." And look for yet another new way to divide the tribes — and keep Survivor fresh.

Well, as a female Suvivor fan, the view ain't too bad from my vantage point, either, especially as the men lose more weight and can't keep their pants up ;)

Who needs beer with all these six-packs?
I was just saying the same thing to my friend. They usually vote off all the hunks right away and leave us with the hot chix and not-so-hunky guys. This season we have three great looking guys left! And the scrawny string bikini girls are all gone :cool1:. BTW, I thought that Jonathon cleaned up surprisingly well. He looked years younger without the beard.

I am sooo glad the Pavarti is gone. My eyes almost rolled into my head when I saw "I heart it" written on Ozzy's chest. How transparent can you get? She was the right one to get rid of from a game standpoint too. She is a stronger player than Adam and the final challenges usually have something to do with ballance. She game Ozzy a run for his money on the immunity challenge while Adam couldn't get across once.

Other thoughts ...

Becky: We heard he speak last night! I think she's playing a good game. She's athletic, smart and she's Yul's sounding board. Sure, she's riding coat-tails, but you can say that about everyone of the Aitu 4. Iwouldn't mind if she won.

Sondra: I really hope she doesn't sneak under the radar and win it all. It's not that I don't like her ... I do. She's just not very athletic and she doesn't appear to be as smart as the other players. The mutiny was the best thing to happen to her.

Adam: His days are numbered. The only thing that might save him is if Ozzy doesn't win an immunity challenge and they take the opportunity to vote him off. I would hate it if he won.

Ozzy: I love how he plays both ends against the middle. "Oh, I'm an outsider!" one minute and "I'm right there with the rest of Aitu-4!" the next. He is playing a sly game and he is so darn likable! I agree with whoever said that Ozzy is setting up Yul to be the heavy. I wouldn't mind if he won.

Yul: He's been my favorite from the start and I want him to win. I think he makes some mistakes by being too "honest" all the time in his dealings with the people who are voted off and at tribal counsel. It makes him into the "Puppet Master" as he has been called and that will backfire on him. I could see the tribal counsel voting against him just for that alone. He doesn't stand a chance against anyone except for possibly Sondra :(.

Here's a transcript from Parvati on The Early Show (found this on survivorfever.net):

Parvati Shallow:
Early Show Interview Transcript
(Transcript by James Barber - 12.15.06)

RENE : Well, we're getting close to the final four on "Survivor: Cook Islands". In Thursday's episode, ex-professional boxer went down swinging. She stabbed Adam in the back, and begged Yul to let her stay, to no avail.

(clips)

RENE : Parvati Shallow, good morning.

PARVATI : Good morning.

RENE : Parvati?

PARVATI : Parvati.

RENE : So Jeff got it wrong the whole time? He was just saying "Poverty" the whole time.

PARVATI : Jeff Probst is such an amazing host. I have so much respect for him. I corrected him maybe six times, and finally towards the end he started saying "Parvati".

RENE : But you're here now. What happened? Did you actually think that you had a chance last night?

PARVATI : You know, I knew pretty much that my time was up. I was going to try my hardest to scramble something together to talk to Yul, since he was the mastermind, to work something and stay for a couple days longer. It just didn't work.

RENE : You won the reward challenge last night, the big mud thing, right? You got to go to the nice spa...

PARVATI : Oh my God!

RENE : ...and before you know it, you're naked in a hot tub with Yul and Ozzy. Whoo! Wow!

PARVATI : Right. (laughs) But c'mon, it's just a hot tub. All our clothes were being washed; the trademark black bikini was in the washing machine. I couldn't wear it.

RENE : What's a girl to do, right?

PARVATI : The guys were in there first; I was like, "I'm not going to leave this reward without getting in a hot tub. I've been on an island for 30 days." Fresh water is a big deal. If it's warm, I'm in.

RENE : I have to ask you, I gotta call you on this, because you did sort of use your feminine wiles. You talked about getting close to Nate early on, and now you're saying, "If I could get close to Ozzy." Was that your strategy all along, using sex appeal?

PARVATI : My strategy going into the game was to be kind of underrated; basically I'm a competitor. And also to be likable. I think flirting is just a little trick of the trade. It's easy to make friends the more bantering you have with someone, the back and forth. Nate and I really hit it off, we clicked really well.

RENE : You did well, you elevated that flirting to an art form, practically. Let's not forget about Adam, your buddy, who you threw under the wheels of the bus pretty much yesterday.

PARVATI : Oh God, it was so sad watching last night, because Adam was like my big brother out there. I was with him for 37 days straight. We never got separated. I was like sheepishly going up to Yul and like, "I don't want to hurt my friend Adam, but I want to stay."

RENE : However, there's a million dollars at stake standing between us so I'm going to go ahead and dump him.

PARVATI : Exactly. It was sad, it was very sad talking to Yul; trying to outplay Adam was hard. I'm a very loyal person, and I want to stay to myself and remain loyal to the people I felt I owed that to.

RENE : Was Yul really that powerful out there? He a couple of weeks ago said he felt like the godfather because people were coming to him. You just mentioned that you went to Yul, Adam went to Yul saying, "Hey, can we stay on?"

PARVATI : Right. Well, Yul was pretty much calling the shots. He had the immunity idol. He had the tight alliance with Becky. Sundra was right along there with them. Sundra was just keeping her mouth shut and going along with everything they said, so I would definitely say Yul was the one if you wanted to pull something out to stay in the game longer, you had to appeal to Yul's...rationalize yourself to Yul to stick around.

RENE : So you didn't score the knockout punch...

PARVATI : I know.

RENE : But you had a good time. Parvati Shallow, thank you so much for stopping by.

PARVATI : Thank you.

It is very interesting that in the final five we have representatives from each of the original racially divided teams.

I had no clue her last name was actually Shallow. How appropriate! ;)

When he got onto Adam for trying to talk to Ozzy. ***? Everyone is entitled to make whatever alliances they can to win. I just thought how arrogant. He was acting like the owned the other 3.

Now Im just rooting for Ozzy. He has worked his butt off around camp and has kicked butt in the challenges.

Yes, but isn't it Adam who keeps screeching about "integrity" when he himself exploited the integrity card when he worked over Ozzy? Yul was letting him know that he got caught and the coward that Adam is, got scared. (He is the biggest baby in Survivor history).

I think Yul and Ozzy have played greatly.

Jeff is trying to play the immunity idol, so he can make this interesting. That's all he was doing..... stirring up ratings. This has been predictable so far.

Right on....... Shallow! Who would have chosen a better name for her.

Adam, smart? Please.... that boy could barely tie a shoe lace. Lazy, yes. Smart? :happytv: :rotfl2: :rotfl:

Isn't the finale this Sunday? I thought they always did the finale when there were only 3 left. :confused3

Yes the finale is Sunday. Apparently there is going to be 3 tribal counsels.

Actually, quite the opposite. Of all the women on Survivor who have attracted men's attention with their bikini-clad bodies, I'd say Parvati is the least shallow. She played a pretty smart game to beat out 14 other players, and indeed, if she had hid her intelligence better, she'd have made it to the final five instead of Adam.

Yup: The first will reduce the final five to four, and the second will reduce the final four to three. Then the final final council will choose the winner from among three.

Oh, wow. I didn't realize the jury was chosing from 3 not 2. That's certainly different.

Exactly. Yul dropped it off before anyone in the jury returned. No one had to know it was Yul if Jeff had not said anything.

I think Yul knew exactly what he was doing and he even admitted it to Jeff. Of course Jeff said something, they all know that Jeff's got eyes in the back of his head at tribal council, he picks up every little smirk etc.. Just a sidenote, but the past contestants have all said tribal council usually lasts about 2 hours, sometimes more.

SSB couldn't find it on the CBS site. Was it mentioned via the ads? I was thinking that they would do another "surprise" double vote off with the first of the night, to get to normal number, and through some spice in. Was thinking timing wise the only way to work, but the 3 finalists were sure make sense that way, as on the timing.

Jeff said it best, "That was one of the most enjoyable seasons in a while". :thumbsup2

It was very satisfying to us viewers to finally see the good guys finish last!!! :smooth:

I give a lot of credit to both Becky and Yul for how they allowed the Final 3 to play out (the tie-breaker instead of Yul handing Becky the immunity idol).

I'm glad Yul won, and I'm glad Ozzie got the car. I would've been just as happy had Ozzie won the million.

Regarding the previews for "Survivor - Fiji", it looks like rather strange! I hope they don't take a perfectly great, successful tv show and change it so much that it becomes something else. Just like this past season when it sounded strange to hear that the tribes would be divided by ethnicity, I'm going to trust that Mark Burnett knows what he's doing here and won't wreck the things we all love about Survivor. :scratchin

Congrats to Yul. I was pulling for Ozzy but am not at all surprised or upset that Yul won. I think Ozzy is a lock for the next all-star edition! :thumbsup2

What a great season!

It was the CURSE OF THE CAR again! Ozzie got the car and Yul got the million :). Yul was my favorite from the very first episode. I am very happy he won and I didn't expect it. I thought the jury would be too mad at him for "playing" them.

BTW, poor Becky :(.

Great season, great show!! I loved Yul AND Ozzy so I was thrilled with the outcome.

Adam made a point out of calling them "boring"... if that's boring BRING IT ON! Him and his toothy frat boy smile was BORING to me.

Boy, Ozzy must've eaten all of Yul's Costco food! He gained a LOT of weight. He still looked adorable, though. Loved his stories, for a surfer he is very well spoken and stood up well next to two highly educated lawyers.

I'm sure his biological Dad is shaking his head somewhere... I cried during his speech because my son has the same exact problem. Extraordinary children with a father who doesn't care... I'll never understand it.

Well, Survivor dragged me back with this show and it was worth it. I don't know about the next one but this one was a winner!
