I really don't understand why they didn't make the Blue/Green milk just vanilla ice cream based milk shakes with some food coloring in them. I mean, they could have made the green one mint, if they really wanted to go all out, and the blue one could have been blueberry flavored, but they could have just kept it vanilla flavored and colored it. Would have been much more appealing to the masses. The review of the drink getting "gooey" as it melts makes my stomach turn.

I don't feel like the number of people who *need* to be dairy free is justification enough to make this food item such.
Ice cream is still dairy. I am not knocking it until I try it.

Logistics, maybe? I just think dairy in the hot sun would not be a good idea, so this is the alternative?

I am hoping WDW is just in a waiting period here and learning lessons from Land and then implements some system...I will be there at midnight on the 28th if I have to but it just seems like a mess if they let it happen as a free for all...

Yeah, so? Do you notice the CONSTANLY long lines at the ice cream shops at both DL and DCA. Plenty of people consume dairy. A small subset does not. The masses are okay with dairy. They seemingly made this drink for the minority of those who don't or can't drink dairy, which seems backwards. Maybe they could have had one be a diary free option and the other just a milkshake. What would have been wrong with that? Plus, coconut and rice milk are FAR more expensive than milk and ice cream, so I'm not sure why they went in that direction, simply from a cost standpoint. The profit margin on this drink can't be very high.

I am thinking if it is not dairy based, it might not have to be kept freezing? So, quicker to dispense perhaps?

i don't think they could just go "just kidding - only reservations going forward too!" ... but maybe they have some times that are reservations only and others that are more open? Or like you said, split it - so basically a Fastpass and Standby Lines to get in

I was actually thinking more like a table service restaurant than Fastpass/Standby. But, same principle. For those that like to plan ahead, they have the option. For those that are just there on a whim, they have an option as well.

I just think this "no reservation, the land is open" thing isn't going to fly very well at WDW. With so many locals at DLR, it makes sense to allow "open borders." Too many day visitors to restrict things to 100% reservations.

But, I'm supposed to start planning a February WDW trip now (9 months in advance for RunDisney)... I want to know in advance whether I am guaranteed entrance into Batuu or not.

But they are keeping this drink frozen...and dispensing it frozen. Have you ever had frozen coconut milk/rice milk? It's a weird consistency, so I assume they had to add some kind of stabilizer/thickening agent to get it to stay in suspension, which is probably where the "gooey" comes from when it starts to melt. A milkshake wouldn't need all that stuff.

Its clear Disney did not want this to be a dairy based drink otherwise they would've made it so. Not saying I agree or disagree but I would suggest trying it first.

The plant-based market grew like 500% last year so pushing plant-based makes sense, Dole whip is plant based and dairy free so I would think it melts similarly.

Yeah, because no one eats ice cream/milkshakes when it's hot? Okay...
No, I meant for quick dispensing, as it would be more out in the open, without massive refrigeration units.

ETA: Additionally, this may be why they had to find a new recipe different than what they did at Sci Fi for SWW.

The green milk almost looks yellow in the more recent promotional pictures. I am still going to get both and I think they are always going to have inflated sales for it because it is 'the' blue milk. But again, I feel like that is the one key food/drink item they needed to for sure lock in as 'excellent' and it sounds so far marginal.

Dole whip plant based? I mean, if you consider "sugar" a plant, okay then. Dole whip is a largely a chemical concoction. It does not have a plant based liquid base at all. Not even remotely the same thing. It's a powder that you add water to and put in a machine to freeze.

Dole whip is also completely disgusting when it melts. It gets all foamy and sticky. Most people eat it quickly because of that.

Well, the frozen milk is being kept in massive refrigeration units too. It's frozen.

I can't weigh in on why the decision was made but the Blue Milk tastes really good. I did find it strange that in the "story" it is from a desert dwelling animal yet it's so tropical tasting.

I'm sorry it bothers so many people that it isn't milk based. I guess that if that really bothers some they can save the $7.99...
