Official Poly construction update thread **updated video page 103(2/17/15)**

What building is 3515 located in?

This is in Hawaii, right? We were in 1515 last week, 2 floors below that. From the ground level looking straight out you saw the green fence with castle showing just above it. The view to the left, toward the GF, was nice. Had we paid for a TPV I would have been really upset, but we were GV. I assume it was reclassified. The fence was annoying, but being able to see Wishes and the water parade from the patio and bed of a GV room made it well worth it.
Sorry, I forgot to mention that I was in the Hawaii building.

It sounds like If I stick with my plan to stay at the Poly the first week of July, booking a theme park view might be disappointing. I guess I'll save money but we were so looking forward to a castle view.

For us that would not be an acceptable theme park view. I would not pay to look at a construction site, period.

I just read on another thread that someone was told that the Volcano Pool will be "torn apart" in July. If this is truly the case, then I guess those of us going in August should assume that the pool closing "in August" means the beginning of August, not the end.

I never like to assume, though, so I guess I will still wait to see if this changes. Really wanted to do a split stay starting at the Poly!!!

The girl at the Polys guest relations said that the pool is gone in July and you won't want to be anywhere near the resort for awhile

This is contradictory to what I have been reading. Many sources say the pool will be closing in August. Do you remember what thread you were reading? We have a trip scheduled for late July and the fact that the pool will be torn apart then will be a deal breaker for us and I will have to change resorts. Thanks for the info.

The other thread also stated that they received a letter stating "major" work to the GCH will start on March 17. I wonder if "major" = removal of the water feature.:(

I'm selfishly hoping this isn't the case as we plan to be at the poly in late April and I'd assume the removal of the water feature will take several months. But it makes some sense that the'd begin removing it a week after they shut down Captain Cook's because they could use Captain Cook's as a through way to move the water feature plants, etc. out of the GCH.

Another option would be to wait to remove the water feature until the same time they're tearing up the area behind the GCH and the volcano pool area. But this would seem to rip too much out of the heart of the resort at the same time so I have to again wonder if they're planning to start removing the water feature on March 17.

Someone said they spoke to someone at the Poly who told them the pool would be "torn up" in July. if this has any truth to it (I believe you OP of this info., not necessarily your source), then the announcement of the August closing of the pool (per Tikiman, whose info. I trust) again, also makes sense. Again, that would mean the beginning of August, not the end, as I was hoping for.

We won't know until Disney tells us for sure what's going on. Hopefully, the pool closing will be pushed to September, as there are many people wanting to use the Volcano Pool this summer (and it seems silly to close it during the busy summer months)!

Pushing it to September or October will get them a lot more bookings, as I know MANY of us would have no problems dealing with the construction with the Volcano Pool open!!!

I'm pretty sure Tikiman mentioned that the "major work" to the GCH in March will most likely be the removal of the water feature.

I believe you are referring to my thread. The girl at guest relations said that the major work to the GCH is slated to begin on March 17. That day temporary walls, fencing, etc are going up. We leave on March 18.

So far, we have negotiated 25% off the pass holder rate, which was 35% off rack rate. We are down to under $300 per night at this point. We just got a new letter about Capt Cooks and are hoping to get a little something else off now too.

This girl told me that the plan is to demolish the pool in July. Who knows when the actual date will be, but she told me this is the plan.

We go back to WDW in November and she said that we won't want to be anywhere near the Poly at that point.

I have not been able to read this entire thread yet so I apologize if this question was already addressed... Will the restaurants be available in September or will the construction have them out of commission? Thanks so much!!

I called today to book a mini session with the Fine Art/event photography at the Poly in November and asked if construction would be a problem. She said they had not been told that yet, they were taking bookings, but would offer alternate arrangements if pictures there wouldn't work out. So I guess I have nothing to lose booking the pictures there. Will be disappointed if they don't work out.

I've recently returned from staying in room 3515 of the Hawaii building at the Polynesian. It is classified as a theme park view.

I took some photos of what the construction looked like from our balcony: Photos Here.

Did you actually have to pay TPV for that room? I hope not …. that's a terrible view to have to put up with.

Adam, did you call the central reservations line to negotiate this? Or did you call another number?

We paid for the TPV with a military discount. There were no additional discounts offered due to the impact of the construction on the view.

The construction did not really bother us though. I rarely saw any actual work going on during our 11 day trip. Also, the view looking out toward the MK wasn't affected too much since you have to look down to see the construction area instead of straight out like you would to view the castle.

After reading the thread today I called the Poly number. I was then connected to the front desk (yes, it was the Poly front desk!). We had planned on being there the end of April and I was told the GCH and Capt. Cooks will be under renovations. Changed our ressie over to the YC. Guess we will have to see how Oct. goes before we book the poly again.

The only thing I know of happening in March is the closure of Captain Cook's. Other things may happen in March since it seems to be when they are starting to do work on the GCH but I have no other details on what may or may not happen.

I have been told by many managers at the Polynesian and front desk employees that you will never speak to the front desk from an outside number. They will tell you they are transferring you to the front desk and that is not the case. The front desk phones cannot even speak to an outside line. If you still don’t believe me than feel free to ask the front desk when you go to the resort.
