Official Poly construction update thread **updated video page 103(2/17/15)**

Just to be clear, the location is already called Cast Cove. It is where the CMs can go eat.

As far as the menu, I think I have a photo of the menu from when it moved to the old Snack Isle location but then the menu was different then anyway.

Tikiman, can you tell me, explain where this location is? Will the location for the guests be in the GCH for resort guests for Capt cooks?

As an idea, we were at the YC the year hurricane hanna's was closed and they actually replaced it with a hot dog cart. Then they had a desk in the arcade selling bags of chips and things. I am expecting it will be less minimalistic than that because the YC has so many more food options in walking distance -including everything in the BC, but there will probably be something missing. (keeping my fingers crossed for a dole whip machine stationed somewhere)

Does anybody know if Kona will do carry out orders?

The Cast Cove is located next to the old Tangaroa Terrace and not in the GCH.

Thank you for the quick reply. If you call the Poly or someone who said they are at at the Poly, they said Capt cooks is not going to be closing. I trust your information more and appreciate all your comments. Thankyou!

Even the travel agent sites are now saying that Captain Cook's will be closing in March (they just haven't posted the exact date).

I'm guessing you won't hear an official Disney announcement about this until the end of this month. Until then, most CM's (and certainly those who aren't working at the Poly) will likely state that they have no information that it's closing.

I have to admit that I haven't kept up with this thread once we made the decision to stay at the GF instead of the Poly this August. Now, I'm getting a bit nervous about O'hana being opened in August as this is the one restaurant my youngest DD wants to have her celebratory, sweet 16, birthday dinner...ugh! I'd hate to make my ADR on Friday to only be told months from now that we'd have to make other dining arrangements. What to do, what to do :confused3!!

Does anyone know/have any idea how obtrusive the lobby construction will be? Will it be a huge eye sore?

ETA: I'm also wondering at what point staying at the Poly wouldn't be worth it with all the construction? We got a super awesome deal on a stay (we'd never be able to afford it otherwise) and the proximity to MK and the over all theme of the Poly are the main draws for us. We aren't huge pool people so I wasn't heartbroken of the idea of it not being available, but now it just seems like so much is going on. What would be a deal breaker for people besides the pool?

No. Although if they're redoing the waterfalls and the check in area (I'm gathering that from the discussions about the check-in moving to the old Wyland Galleries area) then the first floor is going to be pretty torn apart.

Frankly, I don't think it's that big of a deal so long as I can still get to the monorail. Now, Ohanas, Konas or... [shudder] Tambu Lounge being closed would be a bigger impact to me (nooo... my lapu lapu!!!) but I can't see their closures taking more than a few weeks if that long out of the entire rework and they're obviously staggering the construction so that only portions will be down during that time.

You'll still have a pool (just not the main one...), the beach and the scenery.

Go for it anyway! (Who knows you might even get a better discount while you're there! ;))

We're going to be there at the end of April/beginning of May and my three biggest concerns were/are:

1. 'Ohana or Kona being closed
2. Massive construction in and around the Volcano Pool (from the GCH to the beach)
3. Massive construction in the middle of the GCH (for removal of the water feature)

For me, the first two were basically deal breakers (it's looking like we're going to be safe on those). The third, while not a deal breaker, would still be a bummer (and this one is still a total unknown as far as timing).

I can live with Captain Cook's being closed and DVC-related construction on the East side of the resort.

Here's what the DIS is saying:

Never Land Club closed 1/28/2014- 4/27/2014. Polynesian Beach and Sunset Point- the eastern portion will be unavailable 9/9/2013- to be determined. Great Ceremonial House Lobby rehab 3/1/2014 - 12/2014, Capt. Cook's closed 3/2014- 6/2014. Alternate dining will be available.

No mention of the pool.

How close is Fiji and Tuvalu to the construction? Or are those on the far end and away from most everything?

is anyone considering staying at the grand floridian but walking over to the poly to enjoy the atmosphere each night but not deal with the construction worries?

We did switch to the GF because of all the construction and while we are planning a couple of meals at the Poly (hopefully), I don't plan to walk around the resort this time around :(.

I am new to the board and trying to follow all of the updates but didn't come across any posts regarding October 2014 (sorry if I missed anything!).

I just booked our vacation/10th anniversary celebration :) for late October. I haven't stayed at the Poly since I was little and was so, so excited to stay here with our little one! That was, until I started reading about the construction. Sounds like the pool won't even be open for her? This definitely throws a wrench into things. I was thrilled to stay on the monorail so I wouldn't have to lug the stroller and everything else on the bus again...

What would you guys suggest? Keep the Poly reservations and 'tough' it out? Staying on the monorail might be worth the headaches? Switch to...? Maybe the Beach & Yacht Club? Seems like their pool is cute even if we have to bus it to MK. Stayed at Boardwalk this summer and loved it...maybe should just head back there...So torn!

We were going to do pictures at the Poly -- do you think the construction will get in the way? There will still be lots of places to take pictures, right?

We keep going back and forth about late August. Honestly, if the main pool is closed there is still the quiet pool and we would have access to the GF pool, which as far as I know for little kids means access to that really cool looking new kiddie pool while paying less at the Poly than GF.
If you are going to be going to MK very many times, the bus to/from the BC/YC gets annoying fast especially if the kids don't find it fun every time. The actual ride is close to a half hour. After waiting for the bus, we were often on the bus for a full 45 minutes by the time they stopped at a second stop, got on the road, then slowly pulled through the bus loop and it was slow when we went.
If construction really gets to you, I would probably think about going over to the Contemporary, WL or the GF. Disney's version of construction just doesn't bother me because they put up the walls and make it into something to look at. (I also work in construction, so their construction sites look pretty compared to my world)

I've recently returned from staying in room 3515 of the Hawaii building at the Polynesian. It is classified as a theme park view.

I took some photos of what the construction looked like from our balcony: Photos Here.

This is in Hawaii, right? We were in 1515 last week, 2 floors below that. From the ground level looking straight out you saw the green fence with castle showing just above it. The view to the left, toward the GF, was nice. Had we paid for a TPV I would have been really upset, but we were GV. I assume it was reclassified. The fence was annoying, but being able to see Wishes and the water parade from the patio and bed of a GV room made it well worth it.
