Official Poly construction update thread **updated video page 103(2/17/15)**

Everyone can thank me for all this construction and pool closures because I have always wanted to stay at the Poly for many years and could never afford it, then this year *** had a awesome offer we couldn't pass on for the Poly. This will be our last year staying in a hotel because next year we will be doing camping. So I was so excited to book this hotel only now to realize everything going on.
Well I'm not changing resorts because of the pool, I will just have to cart my 3 kids to the GF if we have time to swim. But if Ohana is closed I'm going to have a breakdown my kids love their breakfast and I love their dinner

Just FYI, I switched my reservation earlier today (its for end of May) and the woman at the CRO did alert me to "refurbishments" that will be happening during my stay.

Said as of now, Pool is not scheduled to be affected (as we know), Monorail is scheduled to be back on full schedule and the Kid's club is scheduled to be reopened.

She actually didn't have anything specific for me in May that was "definitely" going to be happening (said she could not confirm for sure whether Capt Cooks would be closed, but if it were, there would definitely be an alternate CS option set up on the resort), just that I should be aware that the system is telling her there will be something, so I assume its just ongoing GCH work?

The July information is correct. I just got someone at the Polynesian to confirm the plan will be to close the pool late July and reopen in March 2015. Thanks for the update.

Steve

Thanks Steve for the update. I'm sure it must be difficult keeping up with all of these continually changing plans.

On a related note, it's looking like the poster who stated the pool would be torn apart in July had some pretty good information.

If I'm not mistaken, that poster also stated that the temporary location for Captain Cook's will be in the GCH (also recently confirmed by Tikiman) and that "major" work to the GCH will start on March 17 (not specifically confirmed by Tikiman).

It will be interesting to see if the March 17 rumor also turns out to be true.

I still don't understand why they're starting pool work in the middle of summer...

How long is Captain Cook's supposed to be closed? I'm heading out there end of December so it might be safe to assume it'd be open by then...

Maybe... ;)

Yes. That was my mistake. When I was told they were looking at putting the temporary location at Cast Cove I thought it was the room that CMs use over next to Tangaroa Terrace but it is actually the room they use for cast cafeteria down the hall from Captain Cook’s. I think because the last time they had a temporary location for CC’s was over next to Tangaroa I was focused on that.

The poster was correct that it will be located inside the GCH.

As for the March date, My date of March 9th being the last day Captain Cook’s is open may still be correct but maybe work on the old Captain Cook’s won’t start until the 17. Either that or the date changed again. Giving exact dates is hard and sometimes I don’t even share exact dates because chances are they will change.

If anyone is being told that Captain Cook's is not scheduled to be renovated they can go to my Facebook. Someone posted a letter to guests from the GM of the Polynesian that states that CC's will be worked on.

It is tough keeping up with the latest. It may be time to just let Disney do the notifying.

Nah, nah... keep it up. If we waited for Disney to notify us we still wouldn't know that CC's was going to be refurbed OR that the GCH is about to get a major refurb.

So I guess I wasn't putting forth someone else's wrong information. That's a relief. However, I'm happier knowing for sure that the pool will be closed in July (although not REALLY happy about it).

Tikiman, your info. is usually 99.9% accurate. This time you were told late August and someone else was told July. Stuff happens. As a zillion people on the DIS and FB have already said, please don't stop updating us!!!!! You're the man!

Haha...thanks. Its just crazy keeping up with the latest. I have a solution, vacation in Hawaii.

SO BUMMED!!!!!! I was really hoping the pool would not close until August. We wanted to switch our current GF ressie over to the Poly and we were OK with making alternate plans for CS meals with a Capt Cooks closure. But now with the pool being ripped up in July, I think we will most likely pass. It isn't the pool closure per se that concerns me as much as the noise and mess it will create. I envision rain storms and rivers of muddy water in already poor draining areas along with jack hammering and the beeping of trucks taking away the vacation feel of the Poly.

Thanks for the information....even if it isn't what I wanted to hear!lol

We can share the blame. This would, in fact, be the fourth year in a row I have booked a Poly stay, but the first time I haven't switched... and look what happens.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed we get to use that kid's water play area at the GF. With the ages of my youngest two, that is a reasonable replacement for any pool.

Now that is the best advice I have heard in the last 3 or four months I have been following this post. It may be cheaper too LOL!!! I'm in, when do we leave!!!

So disappointed to hear about the pool closure in July. I was hoping they would realize how dumb it would be to close a pool in the summer but I guess not! :(

It has to be really hard for everybody to keep demanding information from you and then getting upset when somebody else changes the plan. Please don't let that stop you. I know the dates I know may be wrong, but planning my trip is a million times less stressful with a sense of what the plan is knowing it could change than with the anxiety of knowing there is some plan that nobody will tell me. I can't be the only person who feels that way.

Bungalows are going up. With how tall the roof pieces look (not on yet) it looks the the views will be affected all the way to the lounge of the Hawaii longhouse. I don't know that any first floor room will see the castle after they are done.
