I posted this a back in mid-November...
I wanted to thank those that replied with suggestions and encouragement. It was hard to stay off of it for almost four weeks but I am so glad I did! I swam like a fish during the month of November and finally got back to running December 1st. Successfully completed my final 12.3 mi long run this past Monday - pain free. Now tapering and feeling ready for the half next weekend.
Thanks again for the advice and best wishes to everyone!
Any one have any experience with an injury 9 weeks out? The ortho says it's post tib tendonitis and the athletic trainer who specializes in running injuries says either shin splints or a stress fracture ... I had completed an 8 mile the prior week and was in the middle of my 9 mile last weekend when the pain got too bad to continue...I plan to stay off of it until December 1st, per [my Doctors'] advice. I've switched over my training to include a little elliptical, a little bike and a lot of swimming.
So - my question - has anyone successfully gotten back into their training program after taking a month off this close to the race? I'm signed up for the half marathon. Assuming I can run again starting December 1st - that gives me about 5 weeks to get to where I need to be to at least finish the race. Possible?
