OFFICIAL January 2012 5K, Half Marathon, Marathon, Goofy or Dopey Challenge Thread

Did it say somewhere that we will reuse our Goofy bibs?

I know that we only have one number (per the waiver), but maybe the bag actually has 2 bibs, different colors, one to be used on each day?

It just seems like it is too big of a roll of the dice that bibs, and especially B-Tags, make it through 2 races unscathed.

whoa - i'm not running, but one bib for goofy just sounds ridiculous. hopefully it's two bibs and both have the same number!

In the final race instructions for the Goofy it says, one bib to be worn both days. So unless they worded it wrong, yes it's one bib. Hopefully someone just worded it incorrectly. :confused3

that's such bs. for $350 you should have a fresh bib for the next day. what if it rains? if it's a particularly hot day? your bib will be gross.

yeah...please keep us posted, i would love to hear what they have to say.

not just in rundisney events, but i'm really seeing it in lots of events. races are raising their prices and cutting back on services because they take us runners for granted since racing is so hot right now. Last time I checked we don't *have* to run races to run!

Folks..... Let's not get too worked up

Full numbers are in the 1-19,900 range
Goofy 20,000 - 27500
Half 30,000 - 56,000
Relay - 70,000 - 73,000

It's not hard to figure this out once enough numbers get posted.

With regard to one Goofy bib... It's Tyvek. I seriously doubt it will be ruined before the end of the race. Folks run 100 + miles with one bib. Sure we had two in the past, but it's just not that big a deal.

ADDED - I ran every day each week on a cruise to run cruise with my first B Tag bib and had no issue with the bib....

The biggest downside to the new schemes is that it is harder to understand corralling, but prior to 2006 or 7, it was not easily understood either.

Lets just pin them on, lace them up and have a great time!

Charles, I understand and appreciate your input on the bib issue. I hope you are right and they are made to last. I just have my own past bibs to draw on here and they didn't fair well. Especially the 2010 WDW 1/2 marathon one. It ripped and was a mess from getting soaking wet for the 3 hours I was out there. I guess as long as they stay on and the B-Tag works, it'll be fine.

I was a little harsh I think and I do need to let folks vent.....

Though it is just not a race breaking issue. Pin it on your top, not too tight and after putting the top on or better yet, pin it on a number belt. Chances are less likely that it will be damaged. The latter will make the bib a little more suseptable getting crinkled enough to fuz up the numbers... but they will still be legible.

Besides, at this point in time, there is not much one can really do. I think the real question to ask runDisney is what happens in the event I do rip my bib on Saturday. There will be a few who pin too tight or take clothing off with the bib still on and pull a hole out. But even then it can be used. I am betting that if one walked up with a bad bib at the help tent on Sunday AM, a new bib will be assigned on the spot.

At least asking about what happens to a bad bib now puts them on task to have an answer before race weekend, if they do not already have one

Sorry again...

Still wondering about a few relay logistics.....It would appear that the second runner has a 2 hr window to get to the relay exchange point. So I guess you can choose where you want to wait--Epcot or MK parking lot. What I don't see is any info on A: where the second runner would wait at the exchange point, B: how the second leg runners will be staged (so how do I, as Runner 1, find Runner 2?) and C: How the heck does Runner 1 get back to Epcot?

I'm not particularly worried/put out, just curious.

I see a little more clarity and actually have a few more questions...

From what I see and know of how rD runs relays...

It looks like the pickings are slim at the relay point. A wall of potties and a set of bleachers. I would consider (but not endorse) borrowing material to make a parking lot blanket to sit on while waiting in the lot. The bleachers will get old and if cold and windy, provide little in the way of wind protection. But this is not different from the staging area. Guess I should not have expected much more. Oh, the supply store for blanket supplies, your local pool

Staging. There is a large screen TV and a chip mat before Runner hits the parking lot. Once Runner 1's time window starts to open, pay attention to the screen with bib numbers. You will see their number pop up. You will be corralled about 200 per corral in the relay area. It will be somewhat easy to see Runner 1 come in...

Runner 1 gets back via bus. Or, by walking to the Poly/TTC and monorail back.

One think I see is that it looks like the race is running Runner 2 transportation through 7 am. That would mean if your team goes for the Retreat, you would have a couple hours to lounge there. (or less if your runner 1 is quick).

Hope this helps some

Has anyone heard anything about whether RD is going to be strict on who runs what segment of the relay? I signed up as runner 1 (because I was the one with proof of time), but I want to run the second half.

Not sure... Though I would think if you asked, you would get the answer that that the bib for Runner 1 must go first. I am wondering if all Runner 1's are odd and Runner 2's even... or visa versa.....

Since no alarm will go off if runner 2's bib crosses the line at the start, though both runners may come up as undefined at the finish lines. and t's a sortable and fixable issue in the long run, I would say run what ever order you desire. If you are a little more conservative, then I would change out bibs with each other, that way you know there will be no issue. I would make sure to complete the back of each bib with YOUR info, just in case it is needed. Oh and be ready to hear your partner's name. Which ever way you do it, you can always claim confusion.

Oh, and you are so going to PR AGAIN here..... But you know you have a better chance of PRing the back half of the race, rather than the front since the crowds are thining then
