OFFICIAL January 2012 5K, Half Marathon, Marathon, Goofy or Dopey Challenge Thread

I'm really itching to sign up for the 5k to go along with Goofy so I can run all the races that weekend. I hate how expensive it is for a 5k, but I enjoyed the Royal Family 5k during the princess weekend. Will waking up early 3 mornings in a row be totally terrible?

I signed up for the 5K in addition to the Goofy. Maybe it's some strange compulsion, but I felt that if I'm going to go big, I might as well do the biggest thing I can. An extra 5K, provided it's run very casually should really be nothing assuming proper marathon training has been followed.

Probably not...as long as your bedtime is proportionately early as well. :)

I did the Dopey this past January and had a blast. No problems waking up early at all for this 60yo. The events were my 2nd 5K, 2nd 1/2 marathon and 1st full marathon. Having my first full marathon cap off my first Goofy and Dopey, I don't think I'll bother doing another 5K for a Dopey. Already registered for the 2012 Goofy.

Does the 5K sell out?

DD isnt sure if she can miss 2 days of school (14, starting high school, taking honors classes) but if she does, she wants to do the 5K - we wont know for sure until October..

dh signed up for Goofy, but he'll be Dopey if need be!
just another Half for me...

Any of you guys ever read/use marathon training for non runners?
Its a very interesting book, I like the look of it, my shifts at work can be manic and I like this plan a lot, just not sure it will be enough for the goofy, but I am going to try and follow it for a marathon in september and see how it goes.

Its good for mental issues as well.
My motto for this week

..........but I dont care.

its raining........ but I dont care
Im tired ...but I dont care
the vet is driving me nuts.........but I dont care

get the idea:hippie:

how long will it last:rotfl2:

:cool1: Girl Power :cool1: There have always lots of helpful kind Dis'ers on the course - you wont be alone!

:rotfl: I was afraid someone would bring up those that are older than me kicking my rear on any course!

Did a 1.37 miles today - twice!

Thats a funny amount,Is it a circuit of something?
Nearly 3 miles, not bad at all:thumbsup2

I am trying to stick to this plan for morray marathon in september, I was to do 5 miles, but I love the plan as nothing about pace, so it was nice, I set off nice and slow but actually in the end it took me less than an hour which considering the horrible wind I had in my face running alongside the water was not that bad.

I hit my next big mark yesterday. I ran 9.60 miles with a 10:10 min/mi avg. I have my first half in 10 weeks. With this level, I am on track for having a qualifying time that will get me under a 5 hour corral at the 2012 Disney marathon.

Quick question... Does the Disney marathon itself sell out? If so, do you know around when? I want to and plan on running it. However, I can't commit until about October for scheduling/vacation reasons. I know the 5k will sell out faster, and even the goofy, but do you know about the marathon?

It usually sells out but is usually the last to do so and doesn't sell out until much closer to race day. On the registration page of RunDisney they will start posting the race capacities once they reach 50%. If it gets to 90% I'd register because at that point a lot of the hold outs all sign up at once to try and keep from getting closed out. I would be surprised if the full sells out before the end of October though.

I'm using RunKeeper app on my iphone -

I realized when last I trained (years and years ago - :rotfl: 2009) I often thought I was going much farther than I actually did - so I really was under training my body - but my mind felt all was well! :rotfl2:

So I"m trying to be accountable this time - I'm trying to stick to a schedule that will keep me focused and not dying at the end!

I know exactly what you mean, It is SO easy to overestimate how far you go, we bought a garmin forerunner last year, I love it, its a great wee thing, really motavating.

Thought my fellow runners (especially any that did the MD Half Marathon like I did)

I saw this dog! It finished about 10 minutes faster then me!

That's awesome! That is why I like to run with my dog, she is getting up there in years and is slow these days. Makes me feel better about my running when the dog us worn out, but I'm still going :rotfl:

So, I am officially injured... not sure if it's shin splints or a stress fracture (from self-diagnosing, it might be the latter). Urgh. NOT what I needed this week. I may have to defer MCM. I'm REALLY hoping I can still run Disney.

I hate shin splints - I hate running, but I do remember the first time I got shin splints! They are NOT fun!

Happy Monday Morning all!

I'm on Week 2! :cool1: I'm grateful for my ipod music, I get mentally down, and suddenly here comes the theme from Rocky! :rotfl: cant slow down now! Then I hear Off Kilter playing... "RUN RUN RUN away" :rotfl: Keep the prize in mind, keep puttering on! I got 1.68 miles (Love Runkeeper, keeping it real - it felt like 2 miles, trust me, it did!) and 33 minutes to accomplish that!! :dance3:

Hope everyone is out of the way of those tornadoes.
