Official inaugural Tower of Terror 10 miler thread. September 29, 2012

Cool info on the expo vendor doc! Ahhh final race instructions!Fun stuff!Ok, so on a bus by 8 pm. I can do that!

Not looking to start drama, just looking for an answer: Does anyone drive to the host resorts for the bus? For the Princess we stayed at POR which was a host resort and I took the bus (runner) while DH and my parents drove (spectators). This time we are staying at CSR because we are there for a whole week so we chose our favorite resort in our price point.:goodvibes:goodvibes

I plan on being there when the expo opens to get some TOT 10 miler merchandise. Wish they'd show us some teaser pics do I can make out my list. Wonder if I should shop first then get my packet or packet first then shop. Strategizing for the expo reminds me of strategizing for Toy Story Mania at rope drop. Get the fast pass first then ride in stand by or get in stand by line to ride then get fast pass. Lol

:lmao: I would like to see pictures of merchandise as well. Final race instructions are up http://as1.wdpromedia.com/media/ewwos/pdf/rundisney/tower-of-terror/2012-ToT-10-Miler-FRI.pdf. No program yet. Maybe they found a printing error??? Oops, I didn't see this info was already posted. I bought the pin. It looks ok, nothing special.

You'll get no drama from me - that's exactly what I plan to do. :thumbsup2 There is no way I'm walking around WWOS's remote parking fields in the dark of 2 or 3 am.

bummer, still no info on the party though and what will be available there...food, entertainment, etc. I wonder if the medal engravers will be there too? I always like to get my time engraved...they weren't there for the EEC.

I talked with a friend that works closely with entertainment at DHS (he's a citizen of hollywood) and he said that there's no information on entertainment for the race. The only thing we can expect is that Mulch Sweat and Shears will be there.

We will be! We have a Dinner Reservation at 5:30 for Kouzzina for this purpose alone. Well that, and eating.

I like the pin. I actually think it's more interesting than the medal. Don't get me wrong! I love the medal and can't wait to get my neck around it. I like how the pin actually says "inaugural" though. With an edition size of 3000 and over 10,000 runners I'm glad I preordered mine.

Oh, how I :lovestruc Kouzzina! We're giving it a try for breakfast this trip, which I'm excited for, but I'm sure gonna miss the Saganaki and Loukomades!!!! (although, I think another version of the Saganaki is being offered at the Greek F&W booth again this year!)

Lovely! We were planning on driving to POR and eating our "last meal" there lol around 5:30. I was hoping it would be cool to drive there to catch the shuttle! Thank you!!

So from the info in the Final Race Instructions I have two questions...

1. Can people staying in the Boardwalk area just walk to the start?
2. Since the changing tents are by Indy, can my wife just bring my change of clothes so I won't have to check a bag?

I just looked at the final race instructions and I am confused. AM i reading the instructions correctly that even if we are at Hollywood Studios on Saturday during the day, we have to somehow get to WWoS to take a bus back to Hollywood Studios?

Also, what about after the race? Will there be buses to the resorts, or only back to WWoS?

Bibs go up to 10400 but I'm sure some won't start.

I've read in the past that they have had powerade on course. Does anyone know if they have offered powerade zero? That's what I drink but I was planning on just drinking whatever they offer. However my coach mentioned earlier this week that I shouldn't do my chews along with an electrolyte with sugar. He said it would be too much sugar and my tummy would likely have an adverse reaction to it. What about the nunn tabs? Do they replace electrolytes? Do they contain sugar?

It's just straight Powerade and it's quite watered down. The first powerade / water station at the Disney Half in January was a shock - the powerade was almost pure water; you could barely taste that it was a sports drink. :scared1: Fortunately the next few stops weren't quite so diluted, but it is definitely not full strength. I've found that chews / beans are okay if you alternate your fuel stations. I will take the chews/gels, etc. with water and then at the next stop or the one after, just take the sports drink. That way it's not a shock to the tummy. I find that strategy also keeps my energy fairly level.

Will there be Runner Tracking available for this race like they do for the half-marathons? My family loved having that when I ran the Princess!!

How do you find this stuff?? Sneaky, sneaky. This is an interesting document, with the demographic breakdowns. However, at one point it also mentions 15,000 race participants. These numbers include participants across all the running events over the weekend?? I'm in the minority age group. Lets go ladies!! Did 11.5 today.

I know I'm way out of order (and late), but this is such great info! Thanks, everyone!! I'm in the minority on 2 fronts, age and location. 2% international - now I feel special :rotfl2: Oh, and 48 years old. Okay, not so special now, just old :goodvibes

I think the number of runners sounds just right. There were approx. 26,000 runners for the half in January and it took (literally) 45 minutes to walk to the corrals from the staging area (and I was early!!).

Congrats on your 11.5 today - that's awesome!!! Also glad to hear about the cool front in Florida. Hope it comes back for the evening of the 29th! :goodvibes We're dropping from a humidex in the high 80's to the 60's tomorrow as well - SO looking forward to a refreshing long run this weekend! :cool1:

I'm pretty sure you can walk to the start from the Boardwalk if you choose. We are there too and thought about walking, but may take the bus instead just to save our legs a little extra. And, you'd probably be better off with your wife carrying your things actually. Bag check, and more importantly bag pick up, tend to either run really smoothly or be a total disaster...night races for Disney seem to have the disaster reputation more often :)

Questions about the busses...I see that they'll have a sign in the window but what do they look like? Are they like the normal park busses or are they Mears busses? I was thinking they were regular Disney park busses but I see Mears referenced on the staging map. Also, it says to ask hotel for location to catch the bus. Pretty sure I'll be able to just follow the other runners but for my parents who will catch a later bus to the party, where does it usually depart? I have found the hotel front desks are notorious for giving bad info. We are staying at ASM. I almost missed my ME bus the one and only time I flew because the front desk told me it picked up the same place it dropped me off. It most certainly did not in my case. Lol. I'm about to come out of my skin I'm so excited!!!

For all the races I've done at Disney, with the exception of one, the race specific busses have been larger coaches, like the ME busses and they've picked up at the front of the hotel where the ME would drop off. Now, in May for the Expedition Everest, I was at All Star Sports and the race bus that picked us up from there was a regular Disney transportation bus like what you would take to the parks...possibly because it was a smaller race, but who knows? It did pick us up at the front where ME drops off though, and was clearly marked as an EEC bus. You're right though, most likely you'll see other runners headed for the busses and you guys can all hunt it down together!
