Ugh I am SO IMPATIENT!!! I just want my waiver!!! I want to know my bib number!! And most importantly, I want to know my corral!!!

The suspense is absolutely killing me!! :lmao:

Maybe this week!

Anybody wear Brooks pure cadence and have any comments about them? I was at the store today with my bf and killing time looking at the shoes while he was taking care of what he needed...tried on a pair of the pure cadence and man did they feel good! I'm very hesitant to just buy another pair of running shoes to try on my own, so I may see if one of the running stores around here carries them and get their opinion on them and if they are a good fit for me. Just wondering if anyone had any opinions on them.

It is almost here-- the website is finally up, but the page isn't quite finished yet (no "submit" button), but the folder was empty as of this morning, so this is good progress!

oooh! So excited to see this! :cool1::banana: (but still not operational!)

A friend said "You'll find out when you get there. Relax".
This person would prob never make ADRs or check out crowd calendars.
This person is also never going to go Disney with me! lol!

 some people just don't get it, do they?

I know everyone does vacation they way they want to do it, and there's no right or wrong way, but (this happened again last week) someone's gone for a week and a half to Disney and we're all talking about the trip, etc...I start asking "oh did you do such and such? or You didn't miss this did you?"...and he's like "no...we didn't do that...what is that?" Seriously...I must have asked him like 10 different things and got a blank look each time...and I wanted to scream "WHAT ON EARTH DID YOU DO THERE??? Did you leave the hotel??" hahahahaha! I mean seriously, this guy goes every year with his now 6 year old daughter and still has NO CLUE what the Carousel of Progess is. None. Blows my mind :) And I always think the same thing you did...I could never go to Disney with this person!

So, I think I'm rethinking, at the last minute, my race outfit theme...cuz I gotta have a theme! I wanted to go with Cheshire Cat this time, but I think my iron on supplier is behind, busy, or maybe doesn't like me anymore (:scared:)because I haven't heard back from her and I'm getting worried that I'm not gonna have the time to get everything together...she's normally really quick, so I'll just assume life's gotten in the way and it's not me! :rolleyes1 So last night I decided I may go with a Jack Skellington theme...black and white is easy to match, I found a couple of iron on's for my shirt and accessories that I like, and though it's not really a villain, I think it'll still be an ok fit...better than nothing!

People are getting waivers?! Nothing here yet, but I always seem to be among the last to get stuff from runDisney races.

And anyway, I'm feeling a lot less excited about the race being so soon and a lot more apprehensive, thanks to my "long" run Saturday. :sad2: I wound up taking both Thurs. and Fri. off from exercise due to prepping for Isaac and back-to-school for my son, and weather Sat. morning was cool(er) and cloudy - yay! I felt great - totally ready to rock my 5-mile cut-back run - but IT band syndrome hit at 3 miles and there was no way to continue: the pain in my knee was FIERCE. It didn't hurt much to walk slowly, so I hobbled back to my car and called it a day, feeling completely let down.

As seems to be the case with ITBS, I was fine an hour or so later, so I went for a walk-run with my son yesterday at his pace (read: s l o w) - it was okay until the very end, around 2.5 miles, when the weird tension that denotes IT band pain to come started again.

Here's the thing - stretching doesn't do anything because it's not a flexibility issue; I'm a dancer and yoga devotee - those stretches don't actually stretch anything because I go right into them and could stay there all day. What I'm sure started the ITBS rolling is a difference in leg lengths, thanks to scoliosis, combined with long runs that vary where I am on our steeply canted pavement. On short runs, I'm always on a road facing oncoming traffic, so the slant goes down on my left, and my left leg is the longer of the two. But long runs include time on sidewalks and paths that slant to the right, too, and I suspect that's the root cause.

Anyway, I'm worried about that 10 miles now. What I'm supposed to do at this point to deal with the ITBS is only run until it starts hurting and then STOP, no matter how far I've gone. Long term, that distance should steadily increase. But I doubt it'll get up to 10 miles between now and Sept. 29. My last few long runs have been 7, 7.5, 8.5, 9, and 10, with cut-back weeks between them. Is that enough to rest on before the race if I can't go more than 4 or 5 miles between now and then?

Ugh - so not how I thought this would go. :sad1:

I don't think they've been released in an email yet...someone's found the page where they will be, probably soon, though...looks like everything's there except for the "submit" button, so we can't get anything yet. For some reason, I haven't received any of the race emails for ToT other than my registration confirmation...same thing happened with Tink. So, I just rely on someone posting the link here when it's finally active :)

I think you'll be totally fine with that mileage as long as you can keep up with the 4 or 5's until race day. My plan only calls for t more 7 mile long runs and then I start somewhat of a taper...a 10k 2 weeks before the race, a 5 miler one week before and some 4 milers twice a week each week. You already know you can go the distance, so I think as long as you keep up with the 4 and 5 milers, I would think you'll be fine for race day.

Do you get regular massages by any chance? My trainer recommends it for those that run alot...especially towards the end of a training schedule where the mileage is high. I try to go once a month and if I'm feeling particularly tight, I'll have them do a sports massage...if you can get someone that knows what they are doing...MAN does it help. I was having some painful IT band issues last year and earlier this year and found a lady that can really work on them for me. It's kind of painful...like the foam roller...but it feels great afterward. I always make a point to get a sports massage 2 or 3 days before a race and then go as soon as I get back in town too. You can sometimes save $$ if you can find a massage therapy school in your area and get an intern massage. We had one at a hospital complex close to where I work where I could get a one-hour for $29 for years!!!! Sadly, the school closed several months ago so I joined up with one of those membership places, Massage Heights. It really is worth it!

I was thinking of doing this this week prior to my Disneyland 1/2. But I was afraid that I'd feel even more sore going into the race. Maybe a regular massage instead of a sports massage would help somewhat?

Does anyone feel achy and sore the day after a long run? I'm 50 - not sure if it's normal or just the aches and pains of being 50. I already have some hip arthritis, so I understand that, but other aches and pains after a high mile run?

I move a little slower after a half marathon is finished. After the car ride home, I get out and I'm a little stiff. I may even walk hunched over for a few minutes. I was born in the 60's, as well. In the past, I've taken ibuprofen and that helps.

Yeah, I'd suggest if you're not used to getting regular massages and are prone to getting sore, I'd have the therapist take it easy on you...tell them beforehand that you're doing a big race and don't want to be too sore so they won't do any crazy deep tissue on you! Sometimes they will offer to do some stretching with the massage too if you tell them that...to loosen you up a bit. I've always enjoyed that.

Today, I did a speed workout. It consists of one minute run, one minute jog, one minute speed, one minute walk, repeat. Then, I did strength training that included kettlebells.

I'm hopeful! :thumbsup2

I don't - it's just totally outside of my budget these days. But truthfully, I don't think it would make much difference in this case; I seem to fall into a small category of ITBS sufferers without any muscle tension issues. I can run on the dreadmill with no pain at all - it only hits on our stupid pavement. But the 'mill has its own issues... :headache:

Yep, and not anything that seems directly related to the run... my hands and fingers tend to ache, along with my shoulders and foot joints. All things that ache in cold weather and when I'm fighting illness, too, which is interesting.

Nice work! :thumbsup2

Not really the race program but the WAIVERS!!!!! Lol. My concern is that they are so wrapped up in the upcoming Disneyland Half that they'll put us on the back burner until next week. Lol
