ToT will be my very first marathon and I was soooo nervous about it. The anxiety was really dampening my usual excitement for our annual trip to WDW. My husband and I did our first 10 mile run on Saturday and finished in 2 hrs 13 minutes. :cool1: Now that I know I can do it I am really looking forward to the race. I have a feeling this will be the first of many Disney races for us.

Great job on the run! I hope you love the race! I would like to point out that the ToT is 10 miles and a marathon is 26.2 miles, so it not technically your 1st marathon :)

I have finally gotten my costume for this race, I will post pictures of it next week. I have decided to do Queen Narissa, for those who don't remember, she is the villain from Enchanted. It is a very challenging outfit to produce and will limit running, but that doesn't bother me, I am excited for the outfit and pictures, I will probably run a little slower, more like a 10-11 min/mile. I am very excited for this outfit, it is extravagant and going to look awesome. Wondering if anyone else has figured out what they are going to do for the race.

Just got back home from a 12-day vacation to the East Coast. While I didn't do anything huge, I was able to get in a few runs while over there. Whew! That heat and humidity thing flat out SUCKS! Kudos to all you who deal with this on a regular basis. It got better over time, but that 1st day was really, really hard. I went out today for a nice cool run, but as I've been having headaches and tummy issues lately, it ended up being a rather short jaunt. Sigh. Better than nothing, right?

Yes, it does! :crazy2:

Give into the chocolate milk craving!!! A moderate amount (I normally go with the 2%) is a good recovery drink for runners. Something about the carb and protein ratio, blah blah, blah...all I hear is "IT'S OK TO DRINK CHOCOLATE MILK" :rotfl:
:rotfl: Yeah, I'm not sure I can claim it as "recovery" 4 days after the run, but I had some anyway last night... mmmmmmmmmmm. :goodvibes

I almost think the heel is what makes it that much harder to run. It seems to be extra padded and wrap around my heel..and kinda pushes in right behind my ankle bone (right where that tendon wraps around) Just for kicks... I put my old running shoes on that do not wrap up so high(or hard) and ran down my hallway... it was more than I could do in the mizunos. Good grief I feel like a shoe nut. I am going to take them back... try yet ANOTHER pair.
That wouldn't surprise me - what I love about Mizuno is the high, tight heel - but that's because I have freakishly narrow heels/ankles. If I could marry Mizuno's heel with Newton's everything else, I'd be the happiest runner alive! Keep shopping - it'll be worth it in the end to find the perfect shoe! Sending good juju for a huge decrease in pain very, VERY soon :wizard:

That heat and humidity thing flat out SUCKS!
::yes:: Mostly the humidity - I was so excited for full cloud cover the other day, which meant a drop in temp, too, but the humidity was around 90%; it was more miserable than my 97-degree run at 58% humidity last week! :crazy2:

That's awesome! It's always such a good feeling to have done it, to know that it's possible, isn't it? :thumbsup2

I'm still in planning, but current front runners (pardon the pun) are Jafar and Frollo. Its so easy to be a villainess. :snooty:

Seriously! We got some rain this weekend that brought in a "cool" front...sort of...our temps are still in the mid-90's but the humidity dropped and I thought it was Fall on my run yesterday! It was such a nice break...I was able to up my running intervals and I even finished a little over 1 minute faster than the same distance last week. Humidity really is a pace-killer...I am so looking forward to Fall and whatever passes for "Winter" here in Texas!

That's terrific. You're about 13 min miles. I am hoping to keep that pace with walking. Currently about 14.5 min miles occasional jog here and there.
Getting excilted also. Dressing up as pirates to make an easy costume over shorts & T's.

I have to applaude all of you dressing in costumes. I can't stand the dri fit tank that I wear normally. I can't imagine having more clothes on me than the minimum required for decency.

I will have running gear as the lowest layer, then the costume. Being a night race, no sun, no problem for me, it is slowly approaching us. Also, this costume is far from easy, probably the most difficult one I think I could have thought of.

Remind me what your old shoes were again. Were they the Sketchers Go Run?

Another thing I used to do, instead of ice, was soak my foot in a bucket of ice water. That may help with inflammation.

The first pair I returned in this saga were the go runs. Apparently, the go run rides have more arch support and a larger toe box. I would be a bit hesitant to try them now though. I tried on the brooks shoe that would be good for me (course, the asics and mizuno were suppose to be good too) and I didn't like. I know I tried on a saucony... but cant remember which. In our virtual ToT 10 miler goodie bag there was a cliff bar thing and in that box that came (with a few cliff bar goodies) there was a coupon for 25% off on saucony online. I am wondering if I should try one out. The saucony mirage is on sale...and it looks like it could be a match for me. I am just so confused now by shoes who knows....

The ice bath worked for me a bit. I need to do that tonight again. (maybe then I could run tomorrow?) Thanks again for all your help. :thumbsup2

Good job!!! I think for me knowing that I can finish will help me over all attitude toward this race as well as possible others.

Interesting :scratchin ya know... the ankle that is bad is the ankle where I have an odd width. I am normal on my left, but on my right... I have a more narrow heel than front of my foot. (I have a slight bunion) The store said it was a "c" width.

I am eager to continue shopping for what will be my perfect shoe... but wonder if part of the problem is that I have had some sort of issue going on this entire time. I wonder if I am just not getting an accurate "read" on the shoe when I try them on because of what ever the issue has..be it edema...knee pain... tendonitis..etc.

Thanks you for the good juju :goodvibes Less pain would be good.

Has anyone received their travel docs yet? I anxiously approach the mailbox every day, only to be disappointed. I'm sure they'll show up soon...

Will we receive documents regarding the race? We just moved so I want to make sure not to miss anything :)

No, nothing comes in the mail for the race. Hopefully, in the next week or two we'll get the "Final Race Instructions" email for the race...it will also include a link to download the waiver you'll need to bring, signed, to packet pick up. Your bib # will also be on the waiver, so everyone likes getting those!

I have not received my Magical Express envelope yet though...I hadn't even thought of that! I'll be anxiously checking the mail now every day...it's better than Christmas when I get that envelope!

Finding the right shoe is frustrating. The usual advice is go to a running store and get help, but ultimately that fails as often as it works. I used to love the Nike Lunaracer 2, when they changed it, I was right back in the spot you are in. It took me awhile, but I have settled mostly on the Saucony Kinvara. I rotate the Saucony A5 in for an even more minimal feel from time to time.

The Saucony Mirage is a good shoe. It is like the Kinvara, but has a little support. Probably a little less than the Elixir that you are using. The Kinvara and Mirage have a lower (4mm) heel to toe drop, compared to about 13mm in the Mizuno.

This is more personal opinion, but I much prefer lower heel to toe drops. High heel shoes promote striking heel first. They also create instability that the shoe manufacturers try to correct through other means (and they often fail). I like lower heel shoes, but you have to give yourself a little time to adapt to them.

I saw you mentioned edema. How well do you have that controlled? Compression gear may be useful for that. Seek "real" medical advice first though. It may be something to ask about.

Finally, check out runningwarehouse.com. There is good information on shoes there. Their prices are good. People in this forum get 15% off with the wishraced code. They have a good return policy too. If nothing else, the site is useful for researching different types of shoes.

Good luck.

Does anyone know if this race has corrals, like the half marathons? When it was the 13K, they did not (or it was unofficial and on the honor system).

I believe this race does have corrals, per rundisney site:

The letter on your race number will determine your assigned corral. Letters are assigned based on your estimated finishing time. In order to change your assigned corral, please bring proof of your estimated finish time to the Runner Relations booth after you pick up your race bib at the Disney Health & Fitness Expo.

I certainly hope they do! The "wave assignments" they did at Expedition Everest was sort of a mess and was on the honor system too. I'm hoping they chose that because it was a smaller race...but it was still a mess, with way too many people just going in any wave the wanted. I would think this one would be run more like the half marathons...fingers crossed.
