Official inaugural Tower of Terror 10 miler thread. September 29, 2012

I broke down and went to doc. I have an ear infection so antibiotics. Yay! However she said I can still train through it and I'll be perfect in time for the race. Hope so!

So glad you went in and will be perfect in time for the race! Sucks that you don't feel well now though, and ear infections are horrid!

RE: Medal Engraving

What is or has been the charge and what do you engrave on it?

I'm getting nervous and excited both! My feet have been bothering me so I am adding in more stretching and exercises. This trip me do me in for awhile, but I've come too far to give up. I am still trying to make stuff for the girls for the trip, my poor costume is at the bottom of the list. I figure worse case, I can just run as Rapunzel again. I did find some light up shoelaces, which I think I have rigged in a way with the elastic laces that I can wear them if I do go with a costume. I will be testing them tomorrow morning, of course, without them being lite. I can just see my fellow runners laughing as I jog by. :lmao:

It's been $20 at all the races I've had it done...they engrave your name and your finish time...they have access to the results and use your bib # to get your time. Sometimes the line can get long, but once you make it to the desk and pay, it normally doesn't take more than 5-10 minutes for them to get it done...you just hang around there until your hear your name called.

For those not staying at a host resort, how would this work?

Epcot is open until 10pm, so what about taking a bus from non-host resort to Epcot. Then walking through Epcot to the Studios? Is that expending too much energy? Or taking the boats if they are still running.

If this seems like a viable option, what time would be good to head to Epcot?

I would do that if I had to. I am staying at BW and plan to walk there.

This is exactly why I've never had it done yet - the line has been crazy long. If they were smart about it, they'd add more people to get the line down to a manageable size. They would certainly make more money.

Another Princess, I hope you feel better *soon*!
I've been pretty sick this week after DD was sick last week.
I went to the dr. yesterday and have a sinus infection and bronchitis.
I got an antibiotic, steroids and cough medicine with codeine but it hasn't made a dent in how Im feeling just yet. I did my 11 mis. last weekend and haven't done anything since. Dr. told me to lay off running until the race, that if I trained well (which I did), I should be ok by then.
I'm just really overwhelmed how I'm going to get everything done and leave for WDW in 5 days feeling the way I'm feeling. I'm so bummed, I've been looking SO forward to this forever!

Thank you! I'm not sure I would want the time on there...if the photo lines are long it could be a long race. I didn't stop for photos in the 5k, so I really don't know how long they take. (I wish I had stopped, but being my first race ever, I was scared I would be swept!)

Oh, minniebeth I hope you feel better soon! We have worked hard so it's disappointing to come down to the end and be sick. Even though my doc said I could train through it, I'm worried these last few training runs will run me down more. Rest, rest, rest is what's in store for the weekend.

I did my final long run today, 6.6 miles. Some of that includes a walking cool down. I plan to run Monday, Wednesday evening and maybe a mile on Friday.

Ugh, I'm so sorry! Hope the meds kick-in quickly and you start feeling better.

:thumbsup2 Having battled many ear infections myself, YAY! Could be worse, right?!

Also, I am counting on taxis being available after the race - anyone have any ideas about getting back to a non-host-resort from HS at midnight or later?

I would like to know this too. We are staying at VWL. Staying there was the only way I could convince DH to do the race!

There were plenty of taxis available after the W&D half after-party last year, so I'm assuming there will be taxis available this time too. You can always get the # of a taxi service from the hotel concierge desk and save it in your phone just in case there aren't any when you leave...at least then you could call for one.

I've never done a race with the timing chip. Is it something I will have to attach to my shoelaces and if so how? I have the light up laces by my toes, so it may not fit there. I'm worried I might need to rethink the laces.:confused3

It's on the back of your bib. You won't even know its there while you're running. The important thing is to not wear anything over your bib and to not bend the strips.

I didn't wear anything over my bib, but something happened to mine during the start of the Disneyland Half. I did run to the portapotty before our corral started...maybe I bent it somehow? I also had my earphones over my shirt - it has a microphone on it - so I'm wondering if that interferred somehow.

Anyway, my bib didn't register at the start or the 5K mark..it picked up at the other points in the race. As a result, it gave me a default start time of the absolute beginning of the race instead somewhere in corral E where I really started. I'm still ticked...not sure what happened. I officially finished within the allotted time, but barely, according to the RunDisney due to the default start time. It should have been far earlier according to my RunKeeper...around the 3:00 mark. I know that that may not seem like a bit deal to some, but it was to me.

I wore my bib attached to my SPIbelt for the Royal 5k, so it was hanging off my waist. Will that work or should I pack safety pins?

That should work just fine. That is how I have always worn mine, and I have never had any issues.
