Official inaugural Tower of Terror 10 miler thread. September 29, 2012

I called the IRUN number yesterday and booked a room-only "package." Even though I only needed a room, the rates are still considered to be part of a package. The person I spoke to indicated that because I didn't need park tickets, I would instead be getting a voucher for a free round of mini-golf. :goodvibes

Well, I called the IRUN number and got the discount for the room-only package, along with the free mini-golf, lol. Had to go with AS Sports for my 3 night reservation, instead of the AS Movies that I had reserved, but I'm saving a total of $64.14, which will buy me some more food souvenirs in the parks! And, I dealt with the most chipper reservations person ever!! Now, I just need to call WDW reservations and cancel my original reservation.

I'm full of questions, as this is my first Disney race. Does anyone know when they will give any hint as to what the 5k theme is? I'm contemplating doing it, but running around WWoS does not sound nearly as enticing as running around one of the parks. If the theme is interesting, I could be persuaded though.

About 3 months ahead of the race weekend. They will hammer out that "minor" detail later. Even though the 5K fun run draws more and more people each time, it is still a secondary event for the weekend.

I would suspect it will be Halloween based. It is being held at the same time as the 5K that preceded the Wine and Dine ½, whose theme was Halloween. It would also tie in nicely with the villains party theme after the ToT 10M.

I'm a sucker. It doesn't matter what the official theme is. I'm gonna do it. I want the medallion and the character pics.

And from the runDisney site, it looks like the course is going to be similar to the Muddy Buddy races of the past. And while not as exciting as the parks, it has potential to be fun and have lots of on course entertainment. Where as ones in the parks have tighter time constraints which could mean less character time on stage.

Oh, and here's a really strange question, lol. Just looking for thoughts.

I'm about to finalize my divorce (yes, it's a good thing!) and will be changing my name back, but when I registered I used my married name because that is what it still legally is. Do you think I'd be able to find a way to have my name changed so that I get a correct bib? Maybe if I call? Again, strange question, I know!

Your last name won't be on your bib, but it will be on the waiver you turn in to obtain your bib. It would certainly be worth an email, unless you keep your ID/license with your former last name and use that as your photo ID to obtain your bib.

Ok, I was wondering, because it says personalized bib, and I presumed that meant with my name. How do they personalize it then?

It will have your first name.

Did the registration today for myself and my husband. Neither of us have done any runDisney events, but have done several others. While disappointed that this replaced the Wine and Dine, it still works for our 15-year anniversary trip!

WalkingintheFog--the only thing I priced out was a 7 day park hopper. It was something like $262 and change I think. I didn't buy them yet because we aren't sure how many days we are staying.
Thanks AnotherPrincess!
I went in after & checked out the prices, and compared them w/ the WDW regular prices online, and WOW! There are savings! Do they offer discounts like that for people running the 5k?
I was going to use up the no expiry 3-4 Park days & no expiry 5-6 waterpark days I have from a few yrs ago, but this is a better deal. I'll save those days for another year.

They only offer 2 up to 7 days, with or without parkhoppers, with or without Waterparks and More.
Does anyone know if, if you call directly, if it's possible to get 8- or 10- day tkts with this discount?:confused3

Does anyone know if the park ticket prices will stay the same until time for the race or are they like the race and they go up depending on when you buy them?

I did read there somewhere that it's neither of these! These are some sort of % off the regular price park tickets, so "if" :rolleyes1WDW has an overall tkt increase, these discounted tkts would change to reflect that.
Get'm while they're hot (errr, cheap!).

Edited a minute later to add: The terms and conditions at that ESPN online ticket store says "All prices are subject to change without notice before acceptance of your order"... I interpret that to mean "if WDW has an overall tkt increase, these discounted tkts would change to reflect that."

DH and I will also be running the race together for our 15 year anniversary trip!

Just back from my first 'training' run. I'm following a program to ramp up from zero because it's been years since my half marathons. Is there a WISH thread somewhere where everyone posts their runs/training/etc?

p.s. I got Spousal Committee Approval for us to stay at Beach Club! I'm so excited about that pool! :cool1:

Glad to hear we're not the only ones like this! All our friends look at us like we're a bit nuts. You're doing WHAT for your anniversary? :rotfl:

I'm in! Nothing says Happy Valentine's Day like registering for a Villain-themed race, so that's what I gave myself!

Been a while since I've been around here. Long enough I forgot my info, so got all re-set. :)

If there are any CM on this thread, check the HUB for a discount code for the 10 miler

Add me to the "too late" list. Ugh. They've gotten us so conditioned to no CM discounts now. Annoying!
