Official Disneyland ½ Marathon & 5k

Wow I had no idea that NY was that high.

My weakness is all the official merchandise at the expo.

I wonder if we will still have to deal with road work/construction on I5. We will be heading down early Thurs. morning to avoid the "get out of town for Labor Day Weekend" crowd.

Yeah, NY is definitely expensive. I know last year it was close to $200, and this year it jumped to $248. And all the hotels jack up their prices, b/c there are so many runners. The merch there will be my weakness too; I'm not fast enought to ever qualify for Boston, so NY is my Boston, and I can only imagine all the stuff I'll buy. I'll probably need an extra suitcase! :rotfl2:

I was thinking about the same thing on the 5. I've been watching some of the threads on the DL side and the CHP/DOT site trying to keep an eye out. Usually we leave around 5, but last year, we left around 4 and it was perfect ~ no traffic driving down and we just missed morning traffic through downtown LA. I'm thinking about leaving that early again this year, although if I'm up earlier and can't fall back asleep... :goodvibes It can never hurt to get there earlier.

Or, maybe the guy drawing the map sneezed when he got to that part. :confused3

LOL

So, DH and I will be doing California Adventure on Saturday until it closes...

Virgin America wants to charge me a $100 change fee PERSON to switch to the exact same flight leaving Friday instead of Saturday to LAX, so we will not be adding another day. :(

So I'm not sure if we will be able to break away from the park around 4:30 PM to head to DTD. But we do have to eat sometime... so maybe.

My weakness is also buying things at the Expo. I am going to be so tempted to register for the Disneyworld Half in January, but since DH are trying for a baby I might be preggo by then (which is fine), but an excuse to wait until next year so that I can actually run it full steam.

Have you tried talking to supervisors and working up the line on the change fee? I did with Delta & after about a half hour & 4 people later I got them to waive the 150 per person fee. Granted flights were half or less full, but to change 4 tickets, no way was I paying an extra 600 + the increased ticket fare.

Thanks for the advice - I will try that! Because honestly if I can get the airline tickets changed for not too much $$, I would be willing to spend another night at the hotel so that we don't have to rush around quite so much.

Especially since its literally like 3 days after my birthday! :)

How's everyone's training going? I have been doing well with consistent miles every day since the beginning of the month, but due to some wet socks a few days back I developed a huge (and I mean HUGE) blister on my foot and now running is a little painful. I just did moleskin today to see if that helps, because I'm kidding when I say it is a half dollar sized blister right on the bottom of my foot near the big toe, and I really can't have it interrupting my training with the Disneyland 1/2 less than a month away.

DH and I have a similar flight schedule - arrive SATURDAY at about 8 AM, and then leave Sunday with a 7:30 flight back home. Going through LAX both ways.

I booked DH a Gold Cheer Squad as it comes with a 1day1park pass, and then got myself a 1day1park pass through GetTravel.

As much as I would like to wear my medal in the park on Sunday, I think we will have more time for rides on Saturday. Sunday, you figure you are done with the 1/2, showered and changed by maybe 9:00 AM. But then you have to leave for the airport by 5 PM at the latest. On Saturday you would have the WHOLE DAY to visit the park(s). For DH and I it won't be until probably Noon before we get to a park after checking in to our hotel and the Expo, but for some reason I just prefer a day in the park without worrying about my evening hotel. On Sunday we plan to do a lunch after the run and shop at DTD.

See you in less than a month!

Hi Kappy! That's funny - did you book through Virgin America? If I see you on the plane I will have to wave.

Are you going to do California Adventure or Disneyland, or did you get a park hopper?

I still haven't gotten my transportation squared away from LAX to resort and back again. Are you staying off property? I'd be willing to discuss cab sharing or something, if you're interested.

Anyone going to DisneyLand solo? Maybe i can tag along and have company. Going on Sunday after the race so i can keep my blood flowing and show off my bling.

So my foot is infected. Don't have a clue what caused it but the area around my stitches is red and tender. The stitches don't come out until Wednesday and I'm on antibiotics to clear it out. Which means I probably won't be running again for a few more days (hurts to wear shoes that are open forget tennis shoes). At this rate I just want to be better before school starts next week.

How is the food there??
I'm always looking for new places near DL. Especiallly close to the hotel.

It's great! Tastes like homemade and the portions are huge!

They don't take reservations but you can call ahead and put your name in. It does get busy the night before the race and the parking lot is kind of small. We walked over from BW Stovall's.

I'm going alone if you want some company! Aside from dinner reservations at Carthay Circle, I'll be in the parks all day after the race and a shower.

Sorry! Hopefully it gets better soon. Aside from the infection, how did the biopsy go? I hope it was good news for you.

The results were the only really good news I got today. They got the rest of the mole so at least I wont have to go through this again and the rest were benign. So now I just got to wait this infection out.

Oh good !!! I did notice how close it is to Stovall's. I'm SO excited to have another place to eat. We need more food options at DL :)
Thanks for the info

Okay, a question that I hadn't thought of til I transitioned from obsessing over planning airfare, flights and a costume to thinking about my pre-race planning.

Is there anywhere people can suggest I can get liquids cheaply near the Sheraton Park? I can't bring my powerade, traditional peanut butter, or a supply of water bottles on the plane, so I might bring an empty bottle to at least cover the water but I don't know about the other stuff... I saw a few places on google maps but I'm not sure which one is most affordable...

On the corner of Harbor and Katella on the DL side there is a 7-11 that's really good. They're kind of like a mini-mart. There's also a liquor store right behind it on Harbor that has a decent selection as well. If you don't mind walking a couple of blocks, there's also a Target on Harbor, away from DL. But w/ the bottles it may be a little heavy. It's just on the other side of Chapman.

Kim are you at Stovall's for this race? It's our "home away from home" for us.

On the AP early entry days--plan on getting to the gate before 7 a.m. This is when I wish we were on Harbor with the short 5 min walk--oh well it's still worth getting up and in to the park early.

No, I'm at Park Place! Happy dance! I booked it really early so I got it for $85 or $89, so I'm right at the crosswalk. Thanks for the tip about getting there early ~ will definitely do that.

Got room for one more? :goodvibes After I'm done the race and lunch, I'm heading to the parks as well. Are you going to the Friday evening meetup?
