Official Disneyland ½ Marathon & 5k

MightyDuck, what email did you use? I should probably send them a note so I don't miss out on my medal! :)

I used this one that's technically for sending in pacing requirements: disneysports@trackshack.com. They responded really quickly.

On a side note, I'm sooo listening to the Soarin' music when the plane crosses into California. I can't wait!!! It's so close and yet... still so far!

Has anyone who purchased their registration from GET Travel gotten emails or bib numbers/waivers from runDisney? Is the process the same, or do you have to check-in with GET Travel at the Expo to pick up your waiver, etc? I did get a confirmation from Active.com, but everything else has been directly from GET and is more about tickets and transportation rather than race details.

The process is the same. You can print your waiver beforehand and pick up your bib and packet just as any other racer. Then visit the GET Travel station to pick up your ticket(s).

Carry,

What Wave are you in?

this weekend would be my first long rung 10 miles. Not looking forward to it cause its always been hot and muggy in the southeast.

I am in Wave D, with bib #6644, even though I submitted a 2:28 time from my Wine&Dine and others on here with similar times have gotten bibs ranging from the #4000's to the #7000's. That's why I think we are all going to be similarly paced in those first 4 corrals (except for the crazies in A with their 6 minute miles. Ack!) :)

I did a 10 mile run last week, and I was surprised at how tired I suddenly got around mile 8, which is my usual 'long run' for weekends.

I have made a promise to myself to run 5.5 miles (I have a route that distance) every day between now and my birthday (August 28). I really hope I can stick with it. I have some new electrolyte juice to help with recovery and I am going to give it a try after my runs and see if it does me any good.

It's suppose to be 99º in Oregon tomorrow! Nothing like that horrible heat wave elsewhere in the US, but still HOT for me. Might have to do a 5 AM run that day.

I'm a little sad it's closed when I'm there but I opted for the ballerina from the HM stretching room.

I have a question... This is my first time in Disneyland (southern California for that matter) and probably last for a long time. Does anyone have suggestions for easily accessible, non-Disney restaurants or activities? I love my mom, but she's coming for some reason and hates Disney. She said, "Wait, I thought you were going to run through the parks and pass everything, isn't that enough? Why do you have to go ride on it?!"

The Duke's in Huntington Beach is about 20 mins away eat in the bar it's fantastic and inexpensive they have great fish tacos. There is also a ruby's diner on the pier in Huntington and they have good burgers but it's a lot of fun!

Hi everyone,

I have a bit of a unique problem. In the hast of finding a new job, moving to a new state, and looking for a new place to live (yes, in THAT order!) I sort of forgot one important detail about the half.

I forgot to book a hotel room.

Does anyone know if the only way to book with the Get Travel discount is to call? They are only open on the weekdays and now that I realized my mistake, I'm VERY antsy!

I've seen mention of hotels that offer a race day shuttle - does anyone have that list or know where I can get it?

Also...obviously this late in the game there are few options left. Are there any hotels that I should avoid?

Also, does anyone have any suggestions about park tickets? I'm getting there late Friday (my flight lands at SNA at 7:20) and my return flight leaves Sunday at 7:30 p.m. I'm thinking that Friday night I'll just hang at the hotel or maybe wonder around (guess it depends where I end up staying) and then after the expo on Saturday do Disney Land and California Adventures Sunday after the race? Or am I crazy?

Thanks! Less than a month to go!

We got a good rate at the Sheraton Park with a AAA discount. It was better than the GET Travel discount (I think $120/night). The Sheraton Anaheim was a little less than that with a AAA discount ($111).

On the GET Travel site if you click the link to buy tickets, there is an online way to do the hotel rooms.... but final payment was due Aug. 1, so it's possible that option is no longer available. I talked to Bill Kelley from GET on Tuesday or Wednesday and he said they had some rooms available at Disney properties due to cancellations. My guess is if you call Monday AM you'll find something you like.

For the list of hotels participating in the race day shuttle, go to the RunDisney site, 1/2 Marathon, then click on event details, and then download the Race Instructions for the 1/2. It looks like all the Good Neighbor Hotels are participating.

You might try GetawayToday.com also - it can give you an idea of pricing for various hotels. Good luck! You sound very busy!!!

Carousel Inn and Suites is at $134 and that's a great price for the busy weekend. We usually stay there- decent breakfast included and walking distance to the parks (across the street from the entrance), and a 10-15 walk to the race start via Downtown Disney.

We've stayed at Alpine Inn before. It's basic and cheap but it's clean. Close to the start line and right around the corner from Grand Californian. We timed it and it was about a 10 minute walk to the park gates.

Yeah, wait to do the parks until after the race, and wear your medal. Friday night I would cruise downtown Disney. Usually some good music groups and lots of stuff going on. You can also hang out and see the fireworks if you are there in time.

Had a good run today. 16 miler and ran the middle third at a respectable pace. All joints and muscles working correctly.

DH and I have a similar flight schedule - arrive SATURDAY at about 8 AM, and then leave Sunday with a 7:30 flight back home. Going through LAX both ways.

I booked DH a Gold Cheer Squad as it comes with a 1day1park pass, and then got myself a 1day1park pass through GetTravel.

As much as I would like to wear my medal in the park on Sunday, I think we will have more time for rides on Saturday. Sunday, you figure you are done with the 1/2, showered and changed by maybe 9:00 AM. But then you have to leave for the airport by 5 PM at the latest. On Saturday you would have the WHOLE DAY to visit the park(s). For DH and I it won't be until probably Noon before we get to a park after checking in to our hotel and the Expo, but for some reason I just prefer a day in the park without worrying about my evening hotel. On Sunday we plan to do a lunch after the run and shop at DTD.

See you in less than a month!

Wow that is such a short trip! Hope I see you - we are booked at the Hotel Menage as well....

My Mom and I are flying in Friday morning (no flights after my last class, apparently Denver doesn't have red eyes? Can any Coloradians back me up on this?) get in around 9. Straight to Anaheim to maybe pick up tickets (may or may not getting annual pass on this trip, may wait till Jan WDW trip) check into hotel and then straight to expo. Probably will hit the merchandise first since those will go first and my bibs and things won't be going anywhere.

On the bright side of not being able to fly out late Thursday we do have a late Monday night flight so I will get a chance to hit the parks then!

My friend and I are in Corral E though with the layout being the same as last year I am wondering how easily we will be able to actually get back to the corrals.

I'm dragging my running friend/fellow Disney aficionado back to the parks afterwards. She'll probably want to kill me for doing it after the race but I have discovered that walking around after a race does shorten the recovery, at least for me. So to the parks we shall go!

Best part is Mom said yes to allowing us four (me, her, my friend and my friend's Mom) going to the Blue Bayou for a race celebration/birthday (I turn 23 on race day) dinner. I thought that she would say no after seeing the prices but nope she said yes. So to the BB we go! Also planning to maybe order one of the smaller birthday cakes to split and take home.

So much for trying to PR this year. Knee's a little worse than I thought and got told to shut everything down for 2-3 weeks. Good thing I didn't say I was doing DL at the end of the month...:rolleyes1 I know that's bad, but I also know what I would've been told if I mentioned it. Oh well! New goal for the race ~ try to break 3h.

I had something like this two years ago. I was all set to PR then had a irritated nerve in my back shut me down. I had to keep my legacy status, and I wanted to run anyway, so I wore a costume I had used the year before in the 5k and ran the whole thing in costume and ran a PW by 15 minutes. It was really amazing (thank God) that I was able to run it at all. I thought I would have to walk most of it. It was very fun to run it more slowly, enjoy the sights and sounds and visit with people more.

After the race I had to shut down for a month or so, but it was worth it. Just take it easy, ice a lot, wear a good knee sleeve and think about wearing some completely ridiculous outfit that you would never wear in a PR attempt.

Sorry to hear about our knee. Lots can change in between now and the race. I hope you feel better soon :goodvibes
