Official Disneyland ½ Marathon & 5k

Hoping someone can confirm. My friend had not signed up for the DL half (was not sure he would be in the country). He is now here and able to run. Of course the website says race is sold out, but it says Registration is open for 2012 Disneyland Half. He just signed up and got a confirmation. Did they really open up registration? I would feel really bad if he comes all they way out and they say no. I am going to tell him to bring his confirmation number just in case.

This seems very odd, unless he booked through one of the places that link registration with either a charity or hotel package. I've never heard of anyone getting in at this point.

Just logged on to active and could go through to the registration page. $180 to sign up. Maybe they got some spots back from the tours and travel groups.

Some hotels charge for parking. It can be quite a bit. I would ask yours.

And, I would avoid driving Sunday morning. Some event or something is going on that might block some of the streets.

Reep - LOL.

I am thinking specifically of a rental car being a faster way to get to the hotel, and then back to the airport. That's it. I don't plan on driving it at all in between.

I just want to take advantage of as much time as possible on Saturday and specifically Sunday before I have to worry about boarding a shuttle to get back to LAX in time.

So given that, rental car or shuttle? Maybe I am over thinking this - but I have NEVER been to Disneyland without being a kid with my folks and we drove down from Oregon at the time.

Help me decide!

Well that does help clarify things. I'm not sure there is an obvious choice, but let me post some of the cons:

Rental Car: you might end up waiting in line longer than it would take to just grab your stuff and hop on the next Disney bus, which run often (I think). Also, traffic could be bad that time of day the normal route you would drive may not be as quick as the route a bus driver who knows the area would take.

Bus: The bus likely makes many stops. If you have to wait until the last stop then it could be a bit slower.

If it were me I would still take the bus so I didn't have to worry about traffic or other problems. Just sit back on the bus and relax. But, call and make sure how often the buses run and what hotels they stop at.

On Sunday it's going to be in the 60s when I do my 14 mile run. Two weeks from now I'll be in California for my first ever trip to Disneyland and my first ever Disney race. It's like being 8 and going on my first trip all over again.

Direct link to registration, it also appeared open to me, but definitely at the $180+fee price.

How is that possible? The race was supposed to have filled up months ago. Did they forgo the wait list this year that I know they had previous years.

Good news concerning my foot. It's improving in leaps and bounds. Still infected but what little doubt that I wouldn't make Disneyland has pretty much disappeared. Though the final greavience in a long list occurred yesterday happened with my old dermatologist when she never mentioned a follow up to make sure it was gone (if it's staph (it's either that or a version of strep but either way it's cellulitis) than those can be tough to kill). So I officially have a new dermatologist (who's a runner by the way, runs one of the local shops race teams) who will see me again in four weeks to make sure it has healed.

Is it still possible to get the discount tickets to the parks? I just signed up and would like a 2 day park hopper. Can anyone share the link?

GET travel is selling discounted Disneyland tickets.
Try the runDisney site if you can't find them in your internet search.

Two questions for veteran DL runners:

---best way to get to start of race from Hyatt regency. We do have a car is that the best way?

---is there bio-freeze at the water stops? I know the princess had it.

Thank you!

I am so under the weather. Whole body aches and headache and mild fever. Hope this ends soon cause i haven't been able to train.

Bio-Freeze is at the first aid station--I think around mile 6 or so. Not sure about the water stations. I LOVE bio-freeze !!

I would see if there is a bus or shuttle. If you have someone with you they could give you a short ride down West or to Walnut behind the DL hotel where you could do the short walk. There isn't a good way to park necessarily.

Anyone else glad to be tapering? I had a long week with two speed works and a long run (6 days of running), and I'm ready for a break.

Yup, last long run today. Will do some speed work this week (but a step back), and starting with Friday totally tapering :cool1:

I'm a beginner! Can someone give me some advice? I ran 10 miles last weekend. It was my longest run and I only did it once. Should I try it again tomorrow? Or just start tapering?

Thanks!
