Official Disneyland ½ Marathon & 5k

Thanks guys! I'm hoping it'll get better. I"ve been "r"ice-ing it for the past couple of weeks. But the r has really been every other day. Hopefully a real R will do the trick. But I figure even if I have to walk the whole thing, it's in DL so it's not all that bad.

So much for trying to PR this year. Knee's a little worse than I thought and got told to shut everything down for 2-3 weeks. Good thing I didn't say I was doing DL at the end of the month...:rolleyes1 I know that's bad, but I also know what I would've been told if I mentioned it. Oh well! New goal for the race ~ try to break 3h.

Hope you feel better. If it makes you feel better I'm also out of training for another week myself due to other issues popping up. I had a biopsy done on a mole back in May and it came back with non-clear edges so I had to go back and get it done all over again on Thursday (every other date was either too close to something else or they weren't available go figure). And its on my ankle (and my better ankle too) so no tennis shoes for me. I'll be back with my group next week.

Speaking of injuries apparently my trainer forcing me not to run a race for almost five months was just what my bad ankle needed. I had to use my second brace for the initial aftermath but due to a gigantic blister (about the size of a quarter) on the same foot I had to abandon my normal post-race routine. However I ended up not really needing it. The foot never bothered me like it normally does. So apparently the big break between races was just what it needed.

Kim,
:sad1: Sorry to hear about your knee. Sending you "quick recovery wishes" to you.

Also on a side note....did you know you can get two AP early entrys ??? One for each park. I just reserved our 2nd one for Labor Day at DL. At least we are getting something for the HUGE price increase for AP's.

I'm sorry to hear about your knee. That sucks. What exactly is wrong with it?
Just wondering since I battle knee issues all the time.:grouphug:

Hi all!

Kim, sorry about your knee! :( Sucky.

I sent disneysports@trackshack.com an email about my name change after getting married, and they fixed my registration to reflect that I get my Coast2Coast. Easy as pie! :)

Also, after reading some other posts, and now that DH and I both have a 1day1park pass, I am thinking maybe I will switch my flight to Friday sometime, do the Expo that day, and then do the park ALL DAY on Saturday.

But of course when I logged on to VirginAmerica to check my flight, I come to find that my reservation number had be canceled for no reason! ARGH!

So I am on the phone with them now. At the very least I need my old flights back. At the most maybe I will change the flights to Friday-Sunday and then add a day with Hotel Menage. Maybe.

In other news, I have managed to keep the promise to myself of running some distance everyday between now and the 1/2 for several days now. I hope I can keep it up! Just after a few days of running the same 5.5 mile route I can feel my endurance getting better. And when I need a rest I do a 5K on the treadmill and work weights.

Hugs to all!

- Carey

Thanks! Already booked my EE! :yay: Have DL on Mon w/ you and DCA for Tues.

Hope you guys were ok last night w/ the fire and smoke wasn't that bad. And it's just what we need w/ gas going back up and a drive down to DL in 3 weeks.

Just wondering since I battle knee issues all the time.:grouphug:

I have a small MCL tear in my right knee. I did it about a month ago, and it takes 6-8 weeks to heal. It was a little more sore over the weekend so got it checked out. It's on the back end of recovery, so hopefully the 1/2 won't be that bad. It'll just be getting back into everything the week of the race, that'll be fun. :rotfl2:

Glad the name change was easy! Hope everything went okay w/ Virgin. I had that happen once the week before my baseball trip and it wasn't fun. Got everything worked out, but for a while it's just stressful. Fingers crossed for Fri! :goodvibes

EE- good :)

We were OK last night. Those Emerg. Warning's Signals kept playing on TV and it did freak me out for a couple of mins. I made sure all the windows were closed. But the wind must have been going in the right direction since we didn't seem to be bothered by it. :thumbsup2

Yeah--you're right with the drive down to DL. We want gas $$ either stay the same or even lower.

I don't know if you knew yet--on Disney Store.com they have some new merchandise in for the WDW Marathon Weekend and races. Check it out.
Also the new D & B backpack was online too. It's also suppose to be at DL. I've got to check in out in a couple of weeks.

My Mom and I are flying in Friday morning (no flights after my last class, apparently Denver doesn't have red eyes? Can any Coloradians back me up on this?)

The latest flights are Frontier into Orange County at 9:10 and Southwest into LA at 9:40.

Yeah thats what I thought. My last class could end anywhere between 7:30 and 8:45 (lecture and lab with the lab being the second half) and I live on the opposite side of the city from DIA so unless I skip I have to fly Friday. Thanks though.

Is there a meet up any time during the 1/2 Marathon Weekend? I will fly in Saturday around 10am with SW so i'll be there i guess around 12pm.

Ran 10 miles last Sunday and at mile 7 my legs felt so tired and seems like i was out of gas. Not looking forward to another 10 miles but it will have to happen in 2 more weekends before the real deal and disneyland. Debating should i get the discounted tickets for disneyland. Which one is better Disneyland or California Adventure?

Do you have to choose ??? If I had to choose I would choose Disneyland, since it is the "original".

However, I would get a park hopper ticket so you can do both. The recent additions to DCA are so wonderful and is also a must see. Cars Land and the new Buena Vista Street is also something to see. Honestly, try and get a park hopper and you can see both.

Aaron -

DH and I are doing California Adventure, because his Gold Cheer Squad comes with a 1day1park, so I also got a 1day1park instead of a park hopper. I would have preferred park hoppers for both of us for Saturday, but that wasn't an option for cheer squad.

We would be interested in a meetup Saturday evening maybe, in DTD. But that conflicts with the Pasta in the Park party, which some might be going to.

I am a little sad we won't be going to Magic Kingdom, but I DO get to run through it, and the cheer squad package lets DH enter to see me on Sunday morning. We leave Sunday evening so its a really quick trip. Plus we have a week at WDW coming up in December with the parents, staying at BWI club level, so that's the big trip we are looking forward to.

My pace has gotten better over my last few runs. I want to run 100 miles over the next 20 days. A little crazy, but I set a goal between now and my birthday and I wanna keep it!

Good job with the tough goal. It will provide confidence during the race to have a solid base.

FWIW, I spent time in your area at GFU in the 80s. Nice town then, but I probably wouldn't recognize it now.

That's good about the wind and not being bothered.

And yes, I saw the merchandise. :sad2: Wish there was a long strap for my little DB bag (mine has a small strap to hold), but that's okay, I'm good w/ mine. I used it the last day of my trip a month ago and it was perfect, small, but held everything. And no offense to the WDW bags, but our retro bags are so much more colorful.

I really wanted to by the Goofy race sweatshirt, and it took all my energy not to buy it. I'm trying to hold out until the expo. I'm hoping WDW had a free dining offer, and w/ that and my Disney rewards, I hope I'll have $ for the expo and Disney GC for X-mas for some extra $. But b/w WDW and Tink the next weekend, and I have the NY Marathon in Nov, it'll be a very cheap time next year. I can't believe have crazy expensive NY is going to be. I never thought I would say this, but I hope the reg fee is under $300 next year.

Carey~ what time is the Pasta in the Park? We could do it before hand. For Tink we met late afternoon, 4 or 4:30, if that works for people we could meet then? Any time ideas??

Good luck w/ the runs over the next couple of weeks!

I'm up for a meet. I'm solo this trip so it doesn't matter to me which day or time. Wold be nice to meet some people before the race. My shorts runs haven't been so good lately. Hoping my long run Friday goes better!

For those interested (I really need to stop obsessing), I think this is a relatively accurate map of the course:

http://www.mapmyrun.com/routes/view/122549219

I'm pretty sure it is accurate. The only part I'm a big unsure of is when crossing into DL it appears that you go around the picnic ring, which can only put you on the back street behind the fire station--meaning you have to come in through the gate north of the fire station. This would be a bit unusual, but it does fit with the leftward bump they show on the course map just before aid station 1.

Yeah, that part is weird. The only other idea I can come up w/ is that we enter on the left side of the entrance, going under the train on that side you were mentioning and the curvy part is going around the left side of the flag pole.

Didn't they have more detailed maps in the past or am I confusing that w/ the 5k maps?

4 or 4:30pm in DTD works for me. We are eating at Marri's around 6:00pm on Saturday.

The level of detail is different every year. I like they way they did the WDW marathon map, which shows great detail. We won't know until the race, but I'm betting it goes behind the fire stations, because all the previous maps don't have the picnic bump in them and it is a definite feature. Or, maybe the guy drawing the map sneezed when he got to that part. :confused3

Wow I had no idea that NY was that high.

My weakness is all the official merchandise at the expo.

I wonder if we will still have to deal with road work/construction on I5. We will be heading down early Thurs. morning to avoid the "get out of town for Labor Day Weekend" crowd.
