If any place can do it, it's the Contemporary! I'd tell them your budget and see if they have any suggestions for getting what you want while keeping the price down.

Now my question is (sorry I have so many!)- does the Contemporary deliver to Poly free since Poly doesn't have a bakery?

Only the premade "podium cake" 6-inch cakes are $23. A custom cake costs more.

Thanks Lurkyloo for confirming what I thought when I got my email back from the Contemporary, i'll give them a call today to discuss in person. Might be a bit easier as I requested 3 cakes in one email.

The Poly does have a pastry team that can do basic celebration cakes. But it's actually the GF that delivers (for free) to the Poly when you want a fancy, fondant-covered cake. I mean, you could see if the Contemporary would do it for you, but they're not the official provider...

They can probably pipe an inscription over the ganache. Alternatively, they could screen print an image on white chocolate and stand it on top of or next to the cake. When you place your order, they'll tell you what exactly is possible. :thumbsup2

Thanks lurkyloo,

I've been looking at the cake pictures earlier in the thread and there are a few with a painted Jedi mickey.

I'm wondering if it's made of chocolate?

Do you think they'd be able to put one of those on a ganache covered cake and does anyone know how much that might cost?

Here is a picture of a Haunted Mansion cake I purchased for my nephew's birthday. It was delivered to Be Our Guest where we had dinner reservations. The cake was ordered through the Contemporary bakery - they did a great job!

Love this cake!

When does your credit card get charged? The woman I talked to, said it would be charged today (ordered today) but I don't see a charge yet.

Unfortunately, the white chocolate Jedi Mickey was a custom creation devised by an adventurous pastry chef at the Yacht & Beach Club who's no longer there, so it's not an option. You could do a regular Mickey on a cake if it's a large enough cake - I believe 8 inches is the minimum.

Mine's usually charged the day I get the cake.

Just remembered I didn't add the cake we had for my in laws 40th Anniversary in July. It was delivered to the CG and was really tasty. It was a mini cake in vanilla sponge with white chocolate filing. We split it 4 ways as we were on the DDP so already had dessert. It cost $35.

I also had this delivered to my daughter as a little Disney treat!

My cake never got charged. I'm now almost certain my old manager who is now the manager at the Boardwalk Bakery must have seen my name come across (she knew my plans as we were meeting up with her later that week) the bakery order and she decided to throw some pixie dust my way. It is the only thing I can think of well unless the other Elizabeth Wilkerson who was there and she paid so they thought I paid.

I have been silently reading through this whole thread - and all the old ones - it's been a slow week a work :hyper:

That's the first time I've seen a white chocolate Pluto and I think he is absolutely adorable! I wish they would make white chocolate princesses dancing with their respective princes:love:. Does anyone know if they make white chocolate Minnie & Mickey together? I've seen it on a wedding cake somewhere but not on these threads.

I am in desperate need of help. I have been emailing back and forth with the Cake decorators for a week, and we still do not have the cake finalized. The first cake estimate I received was $116 for a standard 8" red velvet cake with decor like this, but with 2d ghosts instead of 3d as they said the figurine is no longer available:
6a0120a5924ef0970b0133f508f35f970b-pi

$116 is WAY more than I was hoping to spend, and I really dislike the idea of a flat image as opposed to the 3d. So I found a hitchhiking ghosts figurine and asked if they could just save a spot for me to place it on just before the cake is served. Reduced the size of the cake to a 6" and asked for just a gate on top as a backdrop and whatever decor they wanted around the cake. Estimate for this was $110! I don't understand how eliminating 2 toppers and reducing the size of the cake only saves $5.

Can anyone enlighten me? I was really hoping to keep this cake under $70 and looking at photos of others' cakes, I thought this would be no problem. Now I'm not so sure!

I spoke to the person who answered the cake hotline and she did not know exact pricing details but did say that cake flavors other than the white/chocolate/marble are extra, as well as the non-standard fillings. WHY can't they have a price list posted somewhere to make this process less confusing? It's getting down to the wire (the date is a little over a week away) and I feel more lost than ever!

Can anyone help?

That seems really high. Our 6 inch fondonat cake with a standing 2d Stitch was a little over 50 I believe.

So cute.

LurkyLoo, do you know if you can you get these figures in milk chocolate? Not much of a fan of white myself.

I have never seen them, but it can't hurt to ask! :thumbsup2

Filling/flavor upgrades are usually only $5 or $10, so that's not it. Where are you ordering this from? Places like the GF and Yacht and BC charge more than the Contemporary, but all of them have standard prices for the cake based on size (exclusive of decoration). There's a $12 difference between an 8-inch and a 6-inch, so that alone should have knocked more than $6 off the cake price.

I would ask for the pastry chef's email address so you can be in touch and get specifics on the pricing. You can tell him/her that your budget is $70 and you don't understand what's driving up the price of the quotes they're giving you.

I am ordering from the Contemporary (to be served at our dinner @ CA Grill). What's a little funny is that the two different quotes came from two different decorators. You would think they have a set price list for everything, but I can't help but wonder if some of it is up to the decorator's discretion. I don't know how else to explain how I got those quotes.

OK, yeah, then I would get them to give you a definitive answer and tell you what you can get within your price range.

Hi everyone,

We have dinner booked at the Grand Floridian Cafe in late Oct and I'm planning to order a cake as it's my mother-in-law's birthday a few days before. We surprised her with a custom 6" at Le Cellier many years ago so I want something different. The original plan was the standard castle cake but that will never give our group (4 adults, 1 young child) even a bite each!

I'm now looking at a two-tier mini cake. It still won't be much each but we're not big eaters anyway. I considered getting two of the two-tier mini cakes - one Mickey one Minnie - but I know my husband really wanted the white chocolate castle for her (I got him one on our honeymoon).

So, questions!
Can I draw what I have in mind and email it to the GF bakery for a mini cake?

Would GF put a white choc castle on top of a mini cake for me?

I've seen a few light up white choc castles. Does anyone know how much that costs?

Could I ask for some choc covered strawberries on the plate with the cake (like, surrounding it) to help the dessert go a bit further?!

Thanks for all the help!

That's weird- I asked for a Haunted Mansion cake MORE elaborate than this- and I got quoted $106. :-/ Very strange.

Hi,

I've just ordered a custom mini cake (thanks to this thread!) for our upcoming trip. However, I've just received an email saying my cake has been ordered and is noted on our reservation, but I should mention it at the check in podium. Do I need to do this? It's a surprise for my OH so I don't want to ruin it by having to announce it there and then..?

TIA :)
