If any place can do it, it's the Contemporary! I'd tell them your budget and see if they have any suggestions for getting what you want while keeping the price down.
Only the premade "podium cake" 6-inch cakes are $23. A custom cake costs more.
Now my question is (sorry I have so many!)- does the Contemporary deliver to Poly free since Poly doesn't have a bakery?
They can probably pipe an inscription over the ganache. Alternatively, they could screen print an image on white chocolate and stand it on top of or next to the cake. When you place your order, they'll tell you what exactly is possible.
Thanks lurkyloo,
I've been looking at the cake pictures earlier in the thread and there are a few with a painted Jedi mickey.
I'm wondering if it's made of chocolate?
Do you think they'd be able to put one of those on a ganache covered cake and does anyone know how much that might cost?

Mine's usually charged the day I get the cake. When does your credit card get charged? The woman I talked to, said it would be charged today (ordered today) but I don't see a charge yet.

Buttrcp16 said:I am in desperate need of help. I have been emailing back and forth with the Cake decorators for a week, and we still do not have the cake finalized. The first cake estimate I received was $116 for a standard 8" red velvet cake with decor like this, but with 2d ghosts instead of 3d as they said the figurine is no longer available:
$116 is WAY more than I was hoping to spend, and I really dislike the idea of a flat image as opposed to the 3d. So I found a hitchhiking ghosts figurine and asked if they could just save a spot for me to place it on just before the cake is served. Reduced the size of the cake to a 6" and asked for just a gate on top as a backdrop and whatever decor they wanted around the cake. Estimate for this was $110! I don't understand how eliminating 2 toppers and reducing the size of the cake only saves $5.
Can anyone enlighten me? I was really hoping to keep this cake under $70 and looking at photos of others' cakes, I thought this would be no problem. Now I'm not so sure!
I spoke to the person who answered the cake hotline and she did not know exact pricing details but did say that cake flavors other than the white/chocolate/marble are extra, as well as the non-standard fillings. WHY can't they have a price list posted somewhere to make this process less confusing? It's getting down to the wire (the date is a little over a week away) and I feel more lost than ever!
Can anyone help?
So cute.
LurkyLoo, do you know if you can you get these figures in milk chocolate? Not much of a fan of white myself.

I have never seen them, but it can't hurt to ask!
Filling/flavor upgrades are usually only $5 or $10, so that's not it. Where are you ordering this from? Places like the GF and Yacht and BC charge more than the Contemporary, but all of them have standard prices for the cake based on size (exclusive of decoration). There's a $12 difference between an 8-inch and a 6-inch, so that alone should have knocked more than $6 off the cake price.
I would ask for the pastry chef's email address so you can be in touch and get specifics on the pricing. You can tell him/her that your budget is $70 and you don't understand what's driving up the price of the quotes they're giving you.
I am ordering from the Contemporary (to be served at our dinner @ CA Grill). What's a little funny is that the two different quotes came from two different decorators. You would think they have a set price list for everything, but I can't help but wonder if some of it is up to the decorator's discretion. I don't know how else to explain how I got those quotes.
