Official Disney Cake Chatter - Part IV! (2012-2016)

I have a question about what to do when a cake does not meet expectations...It was perfect to look at but more than a third was icing! I mean the 2 layers were much smaller than the massive amount of icing in the middle! I'd say it's close to half the height-could not believe it. We did not cut it until we got back to the room today(wed) but got it at around 9:30 pm on Monday night. My DS ate the cupcake that night.

I am not sure what to do. Asking for a redo is pointless as the day has passed. Asking for a full refund seems to ignore the fact that is was visually what we wanted. Any suggestions?

I will post pictures when we get back.

Did the cake and frosting taste good? Could you just scrap off some frosting? :confused3

I mean if the cake looked like you wanted and it tasted fine (other than too much frosting), I personally would not complain or ask for any compensation.

If you have left, you probably need to email wdw.guest.communications@disneyworld.com

If you are still on property, it would probably depend where you got your cake in terms of who to contact.

Well, what you do in this situation is call ME and I'll come eat all that extra frosting for you! :rotfl2:

I like the way you think...I am all about the frosting... :)

And I should note we're talking buttercream frosting, none of this better cream stuff. (not knocking those who like it but it's just not for me :))

Soooo, We are leaving for Disney a week from today :cool1:. I meant to call last week & the week before about my daughter's cake, but we had a death in the family and I was dealing with all that. For the last 2 days I've called the Contemporary Cake line to talk to someone (preferably Chef Brian, but anyone there, I'm sure is great) about designing my daughter's 2nd Birthday Cake (9/13/14). I'm REALLY getting nervous because no one is calling me back. I waited over 24 hours (what the message said that they call back in) to call yesterday and although I want to call them now, it's not 24 hours until about 1:30 my time. I'm really getting nervous and this is so important to me- it's the reason for our trip to Disney. Anyone have any ideas (other than sit back & relax)?
Thanks,
Nicki
:)

It's funny you mention this as I emailed on Monday and haven't heard back and was going to call today. I'll let you know if I have any luck. Mine is next month so I have some time but I am finalizing things and just want to get that take care of.

Are you calling the Disney cake hot line or directly to the Contemporary ?

Contemporary Resort* 407-824-2955 or wdw.contemporary.cake.order@disney.com

Yes, I'm calling the Resort directly. Oddly enough, all I had to do is post here and I got a call back- lol I spoke to Carolyn who was completely lovely and super helpful. She told me that they handle room service too so sometimes it takes them some time to get back to us and that we should actually give them 48 hours and not to worry about this time frame- we are still in good shape. Then she asked me to email them for photos/prices for what I wanted. Sooo, skatetigger, I'll let you know when I hear back from them on email too. Hopefully, they'll get back to you soon!

Thanks everyone!
:)

:cheer2: Lurkyloo you have done an AMAZING job keeping up with this subject, and the first posts with ALL the important information is perfect! Thank you:worship:

Reading and following this thread has helped provide extra magic in our previous Disney Trips pixie dust:

We ordered the slipper for our Grand Tea (a few years back)

(posting to see if image posts)

One year we wanted to try the custom cake so I made a reservation at 1900 Park Fair and ordered a cake. I will also say it tasted fine, but what hurt was when we checked in they did say Happy Birthday and your special cake is here - so like some have said, be forewarned if you're trying to make it a surprise, they mean to spread the joy too I think..

but what really upset me is we asked and waited and waited for the darned cake and I swear the server waited until dh couldn't wait no more and ran to the restroom, and yep, thats when the cake came out - now he figured this and since we waited for 30 min for the cake, he said don't wait any longer!

Its been 5 years (<faint> good thing they wrote her age on the cake! lol) so I don't know how much we paid for it, but it was tasty and dd was thrilled!

and lastly, I wanted to offer this suggestion - that we did do one year....

We use wegoshop.com to deliver groceries, so I asked if they shop at publix they do, would they pick up a cake? They did!

I'm not sure if I'm going with publix or a custom cake for our next trip - I love Disney, and I know i have pictures from the Boardwalk Bakery of GREAT cakes, and we are staying at Beach Club.... but I love when they deliver a cake, and this may be a surprise .... we will be there on dh's birthday..... so many choices...

anyway, checking publix site, they had the cake we got a few years back

its under decadent desserts, and its listed at $23.99 Its missing the Disney pixie dust: but its got the chocolate!!

This is my first time attempting to post a photo so hopefully it works. Ordered this cake through the number on the first page for the Caribbean Beach Resort to be delivered to our room on Labor Day. Not exactly what I wanted (wanted the image on a piece of white chocolate standing up on the cake with Hawaiian flowers at the base of it) but it was good. It is an 8 inch marble cake with dark chocolate mousse filling and chocolate buttercream icing. Total cost was $58.58 with tax, it was $40 for the cake and $15 for decorations.

I ordered this cake Thanksgiving 2012 for my daughter's birthday from Grand Floridian Bakery to be delivered to the Luau at Poly. I told them I wanted Tangled themed and Pat said they had a Rapunzel tower cake, so I decided to go with that. I think it cost about $120 total, it was an 8 or 10 inch (can't remember) chocolate cake with peanut butter mousse filling. The cake was very moist and tasted good.

We got this cake with the "Her Royal Highness" package at CRT for her birthday Thanksgiving 2013. It was vanilla cake with vanilla mousse filing and was very good.

Donna,
Who made the cake?
I would be mad that not only is it not what you wanted (you wanted an image on white chocolate), but that is a bad screen print job...they shouldn't cut off the faces!

I assume it was made by boardwalk bakery because that's who the first page here says makes Caribbean Beach cakes. I mostly ordered it because I wanted a cake, lol! If it had been for a special occasion or a surprise I would have called and complained, but it tasted good and that was what was most important this time.

I will probably only order at a location serviced by Contemporary Bakery from now on because most people seem to get what they want from them.

Our trip is a long way off, but I am thinking of ordering a cake for Yachtsman...a little scared now. I don't want to spend $100 (plus tax/tip) for a cake like that. At least it tasted good, and it looked like it was cute IF the screen print hadn't been cut off.

I don't think you have anything to worry about. The Yacht & Beach Club pastry team is used to doing more sophisticated designs than you usually see from BoardWalk Bakery. The best way to ensure you get exactly what you want is to send inspiration photos or sketches. :thumbsup2

That's good to hear! thanks

Cute cake! I love the decorations! $15 extra for a screen print is crazy- that's why I'm trying to find the resort bakery or restaurant that will do a screen print for the least amount :thumbsup2

I guess the purple chocolate palm trees and shells was included in that $15 decoration fee, lol! I wish I would have saved the $15 and got it plain.

I'm happy to see that they will at least do the screen print on an 8"- I've read that some places require a 10" in order for a screen print to be placed on it.
