OK, it turns out AKL now offers a simple one-tier mini cake in chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream or vanilla cake with vanilla buttercream, covered in chocolate ganache. They also now want 5-7 days' notice for custom cakes, but it sounds like the mini may be considered a standard cake.

Thank you! I will look into that as we get closer to our trip.

They are not staying onsite their first nite, but only time they can do cake with everybody. If they order the cake still from GF can they pick it up? If not which ones can they pick up from-Boardwalk?

BoardWalk Bakery is the only one with a storefront where you can pick up cakes, although I've heard of one instance when the GF let someone pick up a cake at the Concierge desk and another at the quick-service restaurant.

They were wanting a Minnie cake for her birthday and don't know if they do the Minnie head version anymore.

The Minnie version is simply the application of a red bow to the standard Mickey head cake available almost anywhere on property. :thumbsup2

The boat is leaving from the Contemporary boat dock, so they told me when I scheduled the cruise that any special dining orders would come from the Contemporary. Do I need to call the cake hotline first, and then call the Contemporary's cake line or do I just contact the Contemporary from the very beginning? If I go directly to the Contemporary, is it better to call them or email them? I have two pictures for what I'm looking for so I'm not sure what my best option would be.

I'd call the Contemporary directly and let them know you are emailing over some photos.

Thinking of ordering a mini size cake. It says it feeds 2. There are 4 of us but we aren't huge cake fans that we would need a huge piece. Plus I think if I have it at meh daughter's birthday dinner at Chef Mickey's it will be plenty, am I right to assume that?

We had one split 4 ways. It is doable (allow the chef to cut it though, they did a much better job than I ever have). The pieces are small, but more than enough for a taste

Thanks so much for pointing me in the right direction. Would you happen to know (actually I know you'd know :p) if that's where I would also call to order the glass slipper dessert for my parent's anniversary dinner at Cali Grill?

That's about 2 bites per person.... if that is suitable then I would do it.

Yep, that's the place! :thumbsup2

Question? I've been following this thread for some time and I think that I want to go for it our next vacation. Do you think it is possible to have a cake decorated with two themes?Or is it easier to just buy two different cakes. But I'm thinking that might be too much cake. Thanks? :)

I've tried they won't do separate themes on the same cake.... I tried last August. It's a licensing issue.

Hi ... I am designing a cake for my daughter's birthday. I would like this picture done as a 2d image cake topper ... but did not know if the text would reporduce well. I photoshopped out the original movie title and added in my own text. What kind of resolution is required?

thanks -Stephanie

I had this cake done a year or so back at AKV. The chef was great to work with (Amber?). 10 inch. Inside it was a white cake... chocolate mouse filling... chocolate buttercream under the fondant. Very yummy. We had it delivered to our lunch in Sanaa. I think it was around $100 before all the extra tips etc.

Has anyone here ever tried to have a Star Wars themed cake sent to anywhere outside of the Hollywood studios immediate area? We want to have dinner at chef mickeys the night of my sons birthday and he is obsessed with Star Wars. I thought I read somewhere about Jedi Mickey cakes only being served at certain places...not everywhere? Anyone tried this and been successful or denied?

It depends on how big you want the image, but the higher the better. Try printing it out at the size you want them to make it and see how it looks. :thumbsup2

That's adorable.

That's adorable.

Thanks so much!! (and thanks to you too LurkyLoo) I was inspired by this thread. Dumbo is my hubby's favorite character and it was my first custom cake.... after seeing it... my daughter now desperately wants a fancy cake for her Disney birthday.... So I am having lots of fun planning out a Alice in Wonderland cake ... again using this thread for cake inspiration and tips. Thinking my best bet will be the Contemporary and Cakeman Bri. We want to go in June and I think the GF will be in full blown wedding fever.

I ordered a wedding cake for our wedding next month (May 30th)
I've sent emails back and forth at the beginning of April about it, and lastly an email to finalize everything (GF Bakery). I had some specific questions and wanted a confirmation. She told me she needed to have everything finalized by April 15th. I haven't heard back from her since April 8th. Is this normal? I've even sent her a follow up email and nothing?

Cake man Bri is no longer doing cakes at the Contemporary. He has a different position now. However, I'm sure they will still be able to come up with something great. :)

I am back to doing cakes at the Contemporary!! Wasn't going to tell everyone yet but I have been reassigned back to the cake department so keep the custom cakes coming our way! Excited to be making magic again for my guest in this special way!
