Official 2016 Princess Half Marathon Thread

Finally bought my plane ticket today! And I got the times I wanted, that match my DD26's flights perfectly! And it was $100 less than when I looked at it last week so I am very happy! :)

I bought mine today too! Finally. I meant to do it a while back when SW was having a sale. But somehow forgot. When I made my fast passes last week it occurred to me I didn't have plane tickets. Ended up on Jet Blue instead of SW, and out of Boston because that was cheaper than Providence, but I got my tickets. Now there is nothing left to do but train!

OMG! The my boss had her 40th birthday party last night and we were talking about the run. She asked if I ever found a treadmill since my husband works funky shifts because he is a firefighter. I told her I had got a used one at the pawn shop for $100 and that though it slipped at times, it was good enough for now.

With a flick of her wrist she told me to just take hers from her bedroom and that she didn't use it. I was taken aback but totally stoked. My husband and her husband loaded it into our truck. We left and went home. When we got home I found out it was like $2000 treadmill that she used twice. I am still in complete shock! Now there are NO excuses left!!

What a fun surprise @Panikim ! A nice treadmill makes such a difference. I've just discovered our belt has loosened up again and needs to be tightened. Another item for the "honey do list" ;)

Yay for finalizing more plans! I can't wait to start training again. I am on a self imposed hiatus from running till the first of the year to let my ankle/tendon fully recover.

Ugh....I am really considering deferring the GSC. I have had so many injuries (not running related!) and I'm so far behind in training. Does anyone know the date that the deferment link goes live and how many deferments they allow? I'd like to give it a few more weeks before I make the decision. I managed a 5 mile run yesterday that felt great although my pace was 1:30 slower than this time last year.

I'm in your boat, only I don't have the half. I just have to 5K and 10K. I really don't want to, but I'm not sure if I'll be ready. runDisney told me it opens January 5.

A dear friend gave mine to me, too. And I appreciate her every time I get on the thing.

I believe deferrals usually come out about a month before the race. But to be certain, I'd check once a week from the start of the year. They are not always consistent. My sister deferred in 2014, and it was very close to the race. She was lucky they hadn't reached the limit.

Deferring is a personal decision. Did you submit a POT? Will you have significant head start on the sweepers? We are still 2 month away, with plenty of training time. So, if you want to go for it, you still have the opportunity, as long as you start to focus your efforts. That said, I understand not wanting to go in undertrained and face the possibility of getting swept, having paid $300+ for the challenge. Good luck with your decision.

Yes, I did submit a POT. I submitted a 10K with a time of 1:03.

Does anyone have any patterns and/or advice for making running skirts? I am too poor to buy one currently, haha!

A little more info on what you want to achieve...
There is a no sew style with tulle or very easy to sew something simple.
May not get back to help out until after the weekend.

I bought one on sale at Academy that was and under armor. I made my other one. I made a tutu and a simple circle skirt to go over. What are you wanting to achieve?

That was about my POT the last two years (1:02:25 for me) which got me corral B for the 10k and F for the half. That means you'll have a decent jump on the sweepers. Perhaps a half hour for the half. Which means you get more like 18 minutes a mile vs. the standard 16.

Whether you want to do it feeling undertrained or concerned about injury is really something only you can decide. But, that POT should give you a significant amount of extra time. I'm guessing as busy as rD is about to be with the marathon weekend and then Star Wars in CA, the link might not go up until about a month out. You have some time to get back to running and see how you feel before you make your decision.

I totally get where you're coming from. I was never a runner, but I signed up for the GSC in 2014 to do it with my sister. Then she found out she was pregnant and due to some risk factors, couldn't even walk it. She deferred. I got injured and really considered deferring about 5-6 weeks out. I ultimately decided to go for it. It was ugly miles 7-11, but I finished and was glad I stuck with it. But I'd gotten to 10 miles pre-injury, so I felt semi-confident going into the race days. We also had a big vacation planned around the race, so I knew I'd be unhappy if I still went and didn't try.

Good luck deciding what's best for you.

So I noticed that Sparkle Skirts will be at the expo for the Star Wars race, but their application is still pending for the Princess race, even though Princess comes first. Add this to the Star Wars medals being announced before Princess and I'm starting to wonder if we are even having a race!

Are they going to be at Star Wars in California or Florida? Because the Light Side (California) comes before Princess.
If it is Dark Side ... that's pretty weird.

Hahaha! My bad... it is the Disneyland. I just saw "Star Wars" and didn't keep reading to the city.

I figured it was probably Disneyland. It would be really weird if they had started approving vendors for Dark Side and hadn't approved them for Princess yet.
Although, really, what's taking so long for them to get approved for Princess? I noticed that they're not going to be at marathon weekend either. I wonder if Disney is trying to phase them out or something (I hope not!)
