Official 2016 Princess Half Marathon Thread

^^ last year's Food & Wine bags without the leather corners. These are the ones that were chipping and flaking...I will not buy a D&B bag that doesn't have leather corners unless it's nylon material (these ones are coated cotton).

Tying this back to Princess weekend (since that's what this thread actually IS about)...I hope they're smarter with the Dooneys in 2016 than they were this year and offer a pre-order option for those runners that want them.

Was Princess the only weekend that didn't have a pre-order option?
I remember people being annoyed that there was no pre-order option, but I don't remember if anyone mentioned other weekends not having the pre-order.

That's the only one I remember in recent memory. I know that Marathon Weekend in January had pre-order (since I took advantage of it :teeth:) and I'm pretty sure Star Wars did as well. I know Tink did because I remember thinking that they had learned their lesson after the mess that was Princess Half Dooney & Bourke pick-up.

Avengers may not have had it but I can't remember. :confused3

I keep seeing where some have ADR's already. Do they have some sort of special power, I thought no one could make reservations until 180 days out of their intended stay at Disney.

I stopped by the running store today and got myself some new hot pink running shoes and lime green lace locks. I was all set to get the latest version of the Brooks Pure Flow, but then I tried on the Nike Pegasus. This is the first time that Nike has ever fit me comfortably. Then the girl had me sampling some beans and gels. I ended up with some mixed flavor jelly beans that have caffeine and some Gu gel in salted caramel. It actually felt like I was eating something and not just throwing goop in my mouth. I also tried some raspberry gummies but they had a weird after taste. I was torn between liking the initial raspberry flavor and gagging on the after flavor. It was weird. The girl also sold me something that looks like a small waffle and she says it tastes like one.

I've still got 9 days til ADR day. I did list some hoped for ADRs upthread.

Congrats on your new shoes @preciouspups !

Either their trips start early OR they are just talking about finalizing it in their heads.

I really really wanted to use those. But during TOT 2013 training I realized that I cannot chew and swallow things like that during a run. Just doesn't work for me.

I was always at REI while figuring out what worked and what didn't. Ours has a terrific selection of stuff like that and they are closer than RoadRunner.

Just finished a 6 mile run... near the end I kept thinking about the mile markers during the race and how I was just running through Frontierland... :)

:) I envy people who can really visualize the mile markers like that, or remember them. Heck, I barely noticed what's around me while running the races!

Have they told us it's Tervis, or just that it's a tumbler?

WDW has been known to have fake Tervis around.

Even then one in that F&W picture I would be making SURE of before buying.
Under the commemorative items section they list a "bundle" which had Tervis® tumbler, visor and magnet. So at least the bundle is going to be a real Tervis.

If I'm indoors or it's cool, my long run pace is somewhere between 11 and 12 minute miles. At least, it was. Today I learned that when you get closer to 8-10 miles, you can't keep up that pace as a noob. lol

I think it'll take me years to be able to run a half at 11 minute miles.

I know what you mean. I did a practice half on the indoor track at my gym (so many circles) and my pace was around 11:45. When I did a half in April my pace was almost a minute slower. There were SO. MANY. HILLS. I admit I didn't train that well for it though - when I found out I couldn't do the Princess Half last year I sorta lost all motivation. Hopefully I'll do better with the training this year.

The things I'm most excited about getting at Expo are:
1) actually seeing what I ordered in that merchandise bundle and hopefully liking it haha
2) seeing the jacket I ordered and hopefully liking it :cutie:
3) a RunDisney car magnet! I have never put a car magnet on my car before, but I'm super excited to put a RunDisney one on! (and I think in that merchandise bunch there was a magnet listed? So maybe that will be what I'm looking for)
4) I cute D&B would be pretty hard to pass up!
5) I'm always a sucker for mugs.

In running news, I switched from a run/walk ratio of 2 minutes/30 seconds to 3 minutes/1 minute. I liked it a lot more and will continue to do that-- especially when I'm running up the million hills my town has :scared:

I pay attention to everything while I'm running! The people, the mile markers, the signs, everything. To me its a great distraction. Plus at the mile markers I like to think about how far I've come and counting down how much is left!

Did it list that from the beginning? I look for Tervis, and I didn't see that branding. Just "tumbler". Weird!

I need to start doing that. Because I still mainly notice "my feet hurt I hate running why is that person doing that thing omg she's dancing augh those Ursula tentacles why do the tall people wear big wide scratchy tutus that hurt my elbows as they pass by my feet hurt I hate running". Yeah, I hate myself and humanity by the end of a Half, LOL.

Maybe I should notice the GOOD stuff instead? Worth a try.

Of course you should notice the good stuff- that is the entire point of running at WDW!!! I laughed last year when running by some crowds and someone yelled "looking good belle" (I had a belle apron on over my outfit as my costume) and I yelled back "don't lie to me!"

This has me cracking up this morning! I notice the dead frog in the road, the stinky trash cans, the house painted the colors of a tennis ball, is that a snake... nope just a branch thank goodness, why does that house in my neighborhood have five Mercedes in the yard.

I usually get a new Sweatyband or two at the Expo every year (I got R2D2 and Queen Elsa this year), so that's usually what I look forward to the most. I would also like a rD car magnet, but it seems like those are always sold out by the time I get to the Expo. Which is surprising because I usually get there around noon on the first day, but I'm sure the first-day rush is killer on race merch.

My GSC In Training shirt hasn't shipped yet. :( Boo. Order status still says Active.

I've tried running the last two days and was unsuccessful. :(

Monday my body still wasn't quite recovered from my last run (it was the longest distance run yet) and yesterday I only got a mile in before storms started. Hopefully I can get a run in before the weekend.

Honey Stinger Waffles - I like those a lot. But I've only used them on bike rides - and only when stopped - and not while running. They are tasty though and easy to pack since they are flat but they can get kinda crumbly.

This morning I added some tempo pacing into my 30 minute run: 5 minutes at slow pace, 10 minutes at a slightly faster pace and then back to slower pace for the last 15 minutes.
